Last week, I bought a 2019 16" i7 MacBook Pro 32 GB RAM for $550. The owner of a company that laid off some employees sold the laptop to me. It looked pretty new... The battery life, front camera, screen resolution and other bells and whistles are way better on the M1, but I ultimately didn't want to splurge $1300-$2000 on either a refurbished M1 or a new M2 MacBook Pro for my photo/video hobby.
How does Photoshop and lightroom runs on the 2019 16''? I am thinking to buy one to for the same purpose of editing videos/ photos. And how much does the battery lasts on those conditions? Thank You!
I don't use Photoshop, but Lightroom works great. Battery life sucks with Zoom (dies in less than 2 hours) but for regular browsing and watching videos, it's never a problem for me, but I'm not constantly using it for like over 5 hours. The speakers are really good. @@Gabriel-db5dw
The MacBook 2019 16“ in space grey had the best design of all the Macs ever made in my opinion besides the 2020 13“ model with 4 Thunderbolt ports. With the 10th generation Intel core generation and DDR4X RAM it would be better…the 9th generation + „only“ DDR4 RAM and the great price hold me back then and then came the M1 Max model…so I got that maxed out beside the maxed out 2020 13“ …so I have the latest Intel based and the first ARM based MacBook Pro machine…I even own a sealed M1 MacBook Air…maxed out of course with 1 GPU core more what Apple sells now…so no need for more devices 😄😅
The power of these machines is still nothing to balk at lol. It's a waste of money to buy a new laptop when these can do much the same for way cheaper lol.
Hi! I just upgraded to a 2019 i7 base model (lasto ones, from 2021), from a mid 2012 15" Pro Retina. Picked it for a very nice price, it's perfect and for what I do - social media card, light video editing, print ads and things likethis - this is what I need. Have it for almost a week and will keep it for a long time, certainly. Thanks for sharing your point of view. All the best!
I feel like a lot of tech youtubers are too obsessed with showing off the newest and greatest products that Apple or any company puts out. For most of us, a few years old Mac/laptop can do all of the things we need it to do. And, it’s probably also bad for the consumer if apple can make people buy new macs every year like how we’re buying new iphones yearly. Basically, if you don’t have a new mac and want one obviously get an apple silicon one, but for most of us, our old macs will probably last another few years
I have a 2019 16" Macbook pro with the 8 core i9, Intel UHD Graphics 630. 32gb or Ram and a 1tb ssd. I love it and it's all I need! No need to upgrade when this one gets the job done beautifully.
I have a 2019 16” 2.3 i9 with 64GB RAM and 2TB flash I bought in May 2020 from the Apple Refurb store for £3300. Still use it every day and still love it. The AC+ expired and I’ll renew it for £149 a year until the machine just can’t do what I want anymore. Considering the Intel Mac Pro was still for sale until 4 months ago, I hope there’s a couple of macOS upgrades still left for us!
I have the 2019 i7 MacBook Pro and I love this little beast / I also have the M1 MacBook air and a M2 Pro Mac mini - I still grab my 16" Portable Power House and love the touch bar, its so cool how it changes with the software you are using......
I recently got the M1 at a REALLY good price but I have to big you up for this video because the reality is is that any Mac would have gotten the job done for my purposes as I do audio production and the i9 was definitely in the running. For the money I found mine at it made sense to go M1 but by no means do I think everyone who has an i9 is in the stone ages. It was just time for me to get a new laptop as my ASUS was BUGGIN and the M1 solved a lot of long time issues I’d had with my laptops for ages such as fan noise and battery power. However, had I not found this particular M1 I would have been perfectly happy with an i9 and I think more people need this type of content to put into perspective where they are in their buying journey
Ultimately it's up to the buyer to buy whatever it may be, be it Mseries Apple Silicon or Intel. M1 or M2 is obviously better although I still have or use my Intel iMac 2020 with the 5700xt with 72 gb of ram and it's a beast! I do have to say...only negative side is the fan noises and it heating up. I noticed it can go head to head against the M1 (original from 2020) but can't beat out my M1 Pro or Max. If anyone still has Intel and wants to save the money, it's still good if you don't mind the whole future support and what not. Just make sure to get at least 16gb of ram lol.
I bought about two months ago a 2019 15". It's got the 2.4GHz i9, 32gb RAM, Vega 20 and 512GB storage. For me this machine is a beast! It does everything I would ever need it to without issue. Battery is down about 75% health but still runs fine for several hours. Plus I got the computer shop to drop the price below $800. For me that is an amazing deal for the power it has! No one wants an intel machine but for many, it can't be beat for price/performance. Buy used and run hard. Way more worth it lol.
Just got a 2018 MacBook pro i7 32gb for $400. Installed windows on it, and I'm gonna use it mostly with windows but I also like having the ability to use macOS as well because I'm new when it comes to macs. I got an intel mac for a reason.
I have a black Magic Design eGPU... so I wanted to be able to use this on my laptop too. I am running it on my 2013 Mac Book Pro...so why not use it on both computers.

Absolutely! I asked two of my friends who still have a 2017 MacBook Air if their laptops have slowed down, to which they replied “no, it runs perfectly fine”. All they do is browse the web and use various web apps, docs, etc; it works perfectly for stuff like that, which is what most people use their laptops for.
well, when I trade my old MacBook Air 2017 i5 for a MacBook air m2 was a game changer! In my experience, MacBooks with intel sucks... But, if we talking about a MacBook Pro, maybe it can be different
@@pugboladao I completely get your point. The Apple Silicon MacBooks are far superior to the Intel ones, I can’t argue that. I actually recently upgraded to an M2 Pro MacBook Pro because my Intel MacBook couldn’t keep up with my workflow. (plan on getting a video up about my upgrade) My main point for this video is that if you don’t have to spend the money right away and your current computer is good enough for your work, hold off and save your money :)
I have the 16" 2019 i9 model with 32ram 550m with 4gigs, but 2 weeks ago I finally got the M1 Max 16 and I'm not going lie I'm loving it. Since Apple doesn't sell any Intel Macs now I don't know if any would receive the MacOS 15 this year. They did that when they switched to Intel years ago.
Keeping is maybe an argument. It really depends on the person's financial status and current workflow. Apple is known to not support certain devices with their updates and upgrades, specially with adapters for example. There hidden costs when it comes to upgrading to newer Mac. If you're in the market to buy a new Mac however, I'd argue to get an M1, it's future-proof.
I argue that if you have all programs working fine on your i9 16" 64gb ram which I have and updated you don't need update anything for it to work smoothly, just turn off UPDATES and use laptop for your programs and don't base it on MAC NEW UPDATE OS of being proof or not. i.e. IF you are using PRo Tools or Premiere, they are always going to be updated so who cares much about OSX UPDATE haha...nobody..LETS BE REAL. I haven't really used Blender or After Effects so I can't say for sure. From my knowledge and judging by Blender and AE being more demanding tasks, I would say you'd be better off getting a newer MacBook, potentially with an M1 or M2. You can check Apple's Refurbished site to get a good deal on them.
Hi matthew, first of all i wanted to congratulate you on an amazing video and i subscribed already. You said that you bought it refurbished from apple, but i checked and they sell it around 3k isn't that much? cause i'm planning to buy one
Thanks! Well I have the base i7 version from 2019 and I don’t remember paying 3k for it. Check the specs and see if it’s the base model or a higher tier. With that said, the cost and if it’s worth purchasing is all up to the buyer. On paper, the newer Apple Silicon MacBooks are far better and offer great value for the price and are very capable laptops. I would have a look at those, unless you really don’t need boot camp. When I bought my laptop, Apple didn’t yet announce Apple Silicon and was still using Intel. This video was made to show that the Intel laptops are still great even thought the M1 and M2 chips are technically better. If I was in the same position today as I was a few years back when I needed a new laptop, I would definitely be considering the Apple Silicon MacBooks (which are also available Refurbished by Apple). Hope this comment helps!
@@freddymedina7430 Not at the moment. My point was if you already have an Intel Mac, and it performs adequately for your workflow, keep it and save some money and upgrade to Apple Silicon at a later date. Apple’s Refurbished Store is a great place to purchase Apple products, especially MacBooks. But currently they don’t sell any Intel MacBooks. You may find some used on third party marketplaces, but it won’t be worth it. If you’re in the market for a new MacBook, a good buy right now would be an M1 Air from Amazon - they have great deals on the older stock. Or get yourself a shiny M2 or M3 Air from Amazon, Apple, or even Apple’s Refurbished Store. Of course that all depends on your use case, you might need a MacBook Pro, but the MacBook Airs are usually enough as a general laptop. 🇺🇸 - www.apple.com/shop/refurbished/mac 🇨🇦 - www.apple.com/ca/shop/refurbished/mac
My friend, excellent video Help me with some advice? I'm Brazilian and I'm going to Orlando in February, I intend to buy the Mac there or online. I'm quite interested in this one for the cost. I saw a Macbook Pro 2019 16" i9 on the BackMarket website 32GB 512GB for $740 with rates in good condition. Do you know if he has any chronic defects? Do you know any other reliable site where I can buy it? And the price do you think is ok? Thank you very much for your attention
I’m glad you liked the video! I can’t offer much advice on the second hand market, I don’t have much experience there. I’m not aware of reliable sites for that. All I can say is I would check local listing on Facebook Marketplace so that you can view and visit the item in person before buying.
I haven’t specifically tested this, so I can’t give you a number. I can however tell you that I’ve never had an issue with not being able to browse enough while on battery.
Went from 2018 15 inches mbp to m1 14 inches to make my setup more portable. Plus I got the M1 for $900 from ebay thats arriving today. Will see if I am getting scammed, lol.
My 2015 retina is still alive but annoyingly slow now. It lasted 8 years and just got my replacement (in 2023) which is a slightly used 2019 i9 for $750. I plan to buy a refurb m4 or m5 after 7 years (2030), Haha
A 2019 i9 for under $1000 seems like a pretty good deal! Did you hold on to your 2015? If so, installing Linux on it and playing around might be a fun idea if you don’t plan on using it for anything.

if you keep software updating your intel 16 inch macbook i think it will get so much slower than the old software it came by factory .....because apple wants to you to abandon your old macbook to buy the newer models .......my opinion is not to update mac os software because your intel macbook will get ultra slow and it will get on your nerves.....i have already the mac mini m1 and when i bought it it was very fast .....now after multiple updates it became slow and luggy .....it's apples policy this .....and it's illegal .....so i downgraded to older mac os to get back the speed i have when i bought it .......... i am considering buying the intel 16 inch macbook 2019 because i don't have a portable pc right now and i will try to keep it at the factory settings and don't get any mac os updates .....
I hope that worked out for you. You're right to keep the factory OS & avoid updating. I'm still running Catalina & everything is fine, super fast & runs smooth with no overheating & excess fans!

My only quarrel with the intel Macs are their overheating, and fans always kicking in. Also, those keyboards were bad. My 2018 had an issue where the keys were pushed, and it would get stuck or enter in spaces, and periods I didn’t type. I’m glad I was able to sell it, and get something else.
I can definitely see how the fans get annoying. My friend had problems with his 2018 keyboard as well. My 2019 16-inch is a model that Apple decided to switch back to the scissor switch keyboard so mine has been great with no issues 🤣 Really appreciate the comment and your thoughts dude!
GREAT REVIEW. I agree. 1000%. keep it. Don't just sell it off for nickels especially since inflation is going to make the $$$ less valuable. Keep your old machine and if you need to buy M1 for any reason do it but by then your M1 will be considered old and m2, m3 or m4 will be out haha...Apple is doing same evil they do with iPhones. Buy new laptop every year, haha..right...like we need it. ALL HYPE... avoid HYPE and MARKETING.
That’s interesting, I’m gonna check on my dads M1 Air. Perhaps it’s installed on all versions of MacOS (both Intel and M versions). I do know however that the M chips from Apple are definitely not compatible with Windows since they are ARM based.
For some reason, they kept the app, but when you click on it, it says that bootcamp doesn't work on Apple Silicon MacBooks, so the app is there, but it doesn't work - you can't use it.
That’s funny 🤣 But I am genuinely happy with my 2019 16-inch. Has enough power for everything I do and works great! I will definitely eventually upgrade, nothing lasts forever

ARE These worth buying refurbished?

Important is, when it still works, then there's no need to upgrade as long as it works. Saves money for other needs.
Absolutely! 💯
@@MatthewPCLO thanks you very much for the advice.Sucess!!!
Hello if you’re just browsing all day how many hours you can get before it’s dead?
I haven’t specifically tested this, so I can’t give you a number. I can however tell you that I’ve never had an issue with not being able to browse enough while on battery.
That 16" M3 Max though 👀
I can’t say I’m not intrigued👀
Went from 2018 15 inches mbp to m1 14 inches to make my setup more portable. Plus I got the M1 for $900 from ebay thats arriving today. Will see if I am getting scammed, lol.
I’m praying that you didn’t get scammed!🤣
My 2015 retina is still alive but annoyingly slow now. It lasted 8 years and just got my replacement (in 2023) which is a slightly used 2019 i9 for $750. I plan to buy a refurb m4 or m5 after 7 years (2030), Haha
A 2019 i9 for under $1000 seems like a pretty good deal!
Did you hold on to your 2015? If so, installing Linux on it and playing around might be a fun idea if you don’t plan on using it for anything.
@@MatthewPCLO yes, still got it but I am setting it up for my nephew for his studies. it should last for another 2-3 years I think
@@mahboisph that’s a great idea, a 2015 should work fine for general school work. Especially after a nice clean install of MacOS
just got a 32gb i9 with the 5500 gpu for 779. I did good ? lol@@MatthewPCLO
Do you get a heat problem ?
I’m considering to get one but the other video i searching for they said it’ll heat for no reason like just browsing its about to heating and the fans is kicks
So i just wanna hear yours …
Thanks in advance!
Never had any heat issues. Only time I hear the fans is when I’m doing intensive tasks like photo or video editing.
Oh thanks so i can make sure it will be good with me.
@@MatthewPCLO i got fans up even on youtube. are u kidding us? one the worst thermals.
@@gsarchival Do you have the i9 model? My 16-inch has an i7 with the AMD Radeon Pro 5300M. Graphics switching is off so I’m always using the dedicated GPU. Only time I hear my fans are on Lightroom or when editing videos. I’d be interested in seeing why our experiences vary
My 2019 Macbook Pro i9 was the worst purchase I have made. After two years of usage, the logic board appears to be faulty and the computer is basically useless. It appears that many people have had problems with the same model - a2141
That’s interesting, I never heard of that issue. I have the i7 version and I’m still going strong🤣
@@MatthewPCLO lucky you :D When I went to the service provider, they told me that the i9 is one of the most problematic ever.
@@yuliankarapetkovSo you say that the core i9 version isn't worth it to buy for around 1000$ ? Because I'm gonna choose between 2019 core i9 and Asus TUF F15 core i7 12700H
if it's for $1,000, it's definitely worth the risk.@@Alex.Hilman
if you keep software updating your intel 16 inch macbook i think it will get so much slower than the old software it came by factory .....because apple wants to you to abandon your old macbook to buy the newer models .......my opinion is not to update mac os software because your intel macbook will get ultra slow and it will get on your nerves.....i have already the mac mini m1 and when i bought it it was very fast .....now after multiple updates it became slow and luggy .....it's apples policy this .....and it's illegal .....so i downgraded to older mac os to get back the speed i have when i bought it .......... i am considering buying the intel 16 inch macbook 2019 because i don't have a portable pc right now and i will try to keep it at the factory settings and don't get any mac os updates .....
I thought you were allowed to un-install an update on Mac?
@@erikthechosenoneyou are. Idfk what he’s talking about
😂😂@@m1chaeldav1d
I hope that worked out for you. You're right to keep the factory OS & avoid updating. I'm still running Catalina & everything is fine, super fast & runs smooth with no overheating & excess fans!
Change your Mac region to France because in France this policy does not apply
I argue that if you have all programs working fine on your i9 16" 64gb ram which I have and updated you don't need update anything for it to work smoothly, just turn off UPDATES and use laptop for your programs and don't base it on MAC NEW UPDATE OS of being proof or not. i.e. IF you are using PRo Tools or Premiere, they are always going to be updated so who cares much about OSX UPDATE haha...nobody..LETS BE REAL. I have the m1 max 16" 64gb ram and thats my desktop lol. with that said. Stick to your old i9 16" if its maxed out or running good and change battery on it Apple oem ebay 80 dollars and do it yourself not that hard. TH-cam DIY. GREAT REVIEW DUDE.
My 2019 16-inch is a model that Apple decided to switch back to the scissor switch keyboard so mine has been great with no issues 🤣
Really appreciate the comment and your thoughts dude!
Try throttle stop. It will help you reduce the watt output, which will help your MacBook perform really good on windows at least for gaming.
Wallpaper please?
You got it man! Here is where I got it:unsplash.com/photos/1YQb_ZNYbWE?
I can barely hear you on Mac speakers bro
Volume sounds fine for me. Are you detarded?
Why announcing
GREAT REVIEW. I agree. 1000%. keep it. Don't just sell it off for nickels especially since inflation is going to make the $$$ less valuable. Keep your old machine and if you need to buy M1 for any reason do it but by then your M1 will be considered old and m2, m3 or m4 will be out haha...Apple is doing same evil they do with iPhones. Buy new laptop every year, haha..right...like we need it. ALL HYPE... avoid HYPE and MARKETING.
Thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoyed my review!😊
my M1 Pro has boot camp
That’s interesting, I’m gonna check on my dads M1 Air. Perhaps it’s installed on all versions of MacOS (both Intel and M versions). I do know however that the M chips from Apple are definitely not compatible with Windows since they are ARM based.
For some reason, they kept the app, but when you click on it, it says that bootcamp doesn't work on Apple Silicon MacBooks, so the app is there, but it doesn't work - you can't use it.
@@andrejtech ahhh okay
ofc you keep it. it was best of the best and cost MAX. now you sell it away cheaper? LOL
It's almost as if you made this video to feel better about your reasoning and work through your feelings about not upgrading lol
That’s funny 🤣 But I am genuinely happy with my 2019 16-inch. Has enough power for everything I do and works great! I will definitely eventually upgrade, nothing lasts forever
