Sequoia and iOS 18 introduced some weird bugs that affect the functionality of the Shortcut, so I had to do some modifications. It still works, just do make sure to read my notes next to the download links: afadingthought.substack.com/p/integrating-bear-with-readwise
I try to add comments both for advanced users and for myself (it definitely helps with memory whenever I need to fix or modify something). I'm also very thankful to other Shortcut creators who add comments, as it's been a huge learning resource :) Glad you find this useful!
Hi Robert, I like your videos very much, because it’s full of interesting and useful tips! Thank you! Actually i’m using apple notes although I really like Bear, I have a lot of notes, so I can’t switch over. Do you happen to have the same shortcut for Apple Notes? Thank you, Gabor
@@fgrabo I haven't used Apple notes in years sorry! Aside from those markdown links that update the note or individual highlights, the content itself should not be hard to port. Oh, and there's also the issue that Notes doesn't interprets markdown, so I'm not sure how would I include the links there. Here's a starting point in case you'd like to customize it: www.icloud.com/shortcuts/48051f85f70f43a6852e9aa6abc6cec6
This is really great, thank you! How would one move the [OPEN IN READWISE | UPDATE] buttons to the header of the note? I feel like they'd be more useful there, especially if you have a lot of highlights already in the note and need to update.
Hi! Thank you for the suggestion! While testing this change I realized that an update on the Shortcuts app seems to have introduced a bug that was preventing me to update the Bear using the Shortut. I found a workaround and updated the shortcut in the original article (if you need it). On regards to the change you mention, the easiest would be to just move those links just below the title. Nothing is affected by doing this, but anywhere else can cause issues that need more modifications. You have to go inside the Shortcut setup and all the way to the bottom make sure it looks like this: substackcdn.com/image/fetch/f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F6d082d7d-cd68-4f40-99e0-f6460a5bedb4_1336x421.jpeg
Hi Robert: Thanks for doing this. Unfortunately when i am running the shortcut i am getting an error "Conversion error: get dictionary value failed because shortcuts couldn't convert from rich text to dictionary."
Hi! The only way I can replicate this error is when I have something on my clipboard that is something else other than the url to the RW book. Are you sharing to the Shortcut directly from Safari? if you are on a different browser then you do have to make sure you only have the URL on plain text on your clipboard.
I am assuming you are on Sequoia or iOS 18? There is a bug that currently is breaking the shortcut. All X-Callback Urls (not only Bear's) are not working. Basically, that's what is used to retrieve existing tags in the Shortcut. Sorry! Hoping Apple releases a fix soon: community.bear.app/t/x-callback-shortcuts-broken-in-ios-18-and-sequoia/13745
Just double checked and the links work without issues. An issue, on the other hand, is with a bug introduced with Sequoia and iOS 18 itself... I'm waiting on a fix from Apple but if you are on any of those systems, unless you know your way around Shortcuts you probably won't be able to use it (added a note on the article) sorry!

Robert: Another excellent shortcut. Thank you. I especially appreciate the fact that you add Comments to your Shortcuts.

One more incredible gift! Thank you Robert.

The highlights work only for the 1st step (note title), and then nothing… highlights aren’t moving into bear?

Can you please fix the links for downloading the shortcut?
