Just for fun I wrote a program to compare 4d6 - lowest dice with the normal system and with your system of no ones. With testing 2 million rolls of each system I found the normal average score is 12.34 and the average score with your system is 13.43. So you give each stat a bonus of 1.09 on average. I thought your system was interesting and you said that you didn't know math very well, so there's an answer for you.

Thats not entirely metagaming. I mean her character lives in this world, she knows magic is rare, itd be perfectly normal for her to consider it highly unlikely for them to run into magic users in her adventuring.
The problem with worlds were magic is rare, is that the very few that get "some of it" quickly develop a desire to "hoard it all" (meaning both acquiring spells/artifacts AND getting rid of everyone else that may be a threat later); unlike worlds "full of magic" were this will be unpractical or impossible [if gifted people are born/made faster than what they can be found to be exterminated]. Also, since few people can harness/control it anyways; the chance of "running against each others" by accident while they are still weak/inexperienced is low (meaning that early unwanted encounters will not happen if they are carefull enough); so battles will be either easy [true randomness] or VERY difficult. -> The gnome´s passive ability against mind magic manipulation will be essential for the "end game" [if he survives long enough].
I was thinking about a high CHA druid and came up with Snow White. She has a charisma so high her stepmom wants to kill her and she gets animals to clean the house. Even when she is unconscious she gets animals to go get help for her. She is a CRAZY powerful druid. Also, she calls and treats dwarves like children. Which is great if you got one in the party. If my current Character dies I "may" make this Character. Thanks for the Inspiration!
It seems like she sacrificed "animal shape" to enhance her "summon nature creature" abilities... Wait a minute! -> Druids get *immunity to poison* at higher levels...
I have to show this to my wife, she will laugh hysterically at Anna's choices not in a bad way, "cool elf warlock pirate with animal handling and with a dildo weapon" sounds like choices she would make (dildo was the comment yelled out when describing what Sean can make)
This is brilliant. I wish I had a teacher like Bill Allan growing up! Admittedly I had a rad science teacher who'd bring in Star Trek: The Next Generation on VHS and would let the nerds sneak into the back of the staff room during lunch once a week to binge watch ST. :D

Heather. Magic stone would be a good cantrip for a halfling wizard. Just bring a little bag of pebbles with you and you can use it to charge one up with magic and throw it for a pretty ranged attack up to 60 feet.
That's a good point. She could do with a ranged weapon then to keep a distance from enemies when she needs to. Guess a sling is the only option and a finesse druid weapon like a scimitar or dagger.
Sean's Rock Gnome becomes an Epic character. Keep a close eye on him in the season. I'm not trying to say the other players aren't epic, but having seen the complete series before I remember some really crazy stuff (no spoilers) that he is a part of.

poor cooper, his legacy has been threatened. Even there worst rolls are still better than mine. I have absolutely terrible luck. I have made hundreds of characters and have had only one stat higher than 16.
A check is a test to see if you succeed or fail at something: Roll a die, add your modifiers, and see if you beat some target number. For example if you're trying to parkour off some walls in a dungeon the DM may ask you to make an acrobatics check to determine if you succeed or slip and fall on your face. Players can request a check too: If you're dealing with a merchant you may make an insight check to see if they're being forthright in their dealings or trying to swindle you.
Anna. You should take the Eldritch Blast cantrip if you want to blast enemies at a distance with magic. And it looks pretty awesome too. th-cam.com/video/itBczNhHM3Y/w-d-xo.html
There's really only one kind of warlock who has any excuse not to take Eldritch Blast as a cantrip, and that's the Hexblade Warlock, and only because they're almost guaranteed to be good in melee.
Nice rolls Sean, I wish i could be more enthusiastic about your character but I've had a long standing hatred of gnomes. Mainly cause everyone i've seen in video games, and most ones i've seen played in my RL games have all been annoying, please don't play your gnome that way. It is your character though so in the end its all in your court :)
Christina Wandell I believe you should check out some Critical Roll clips of Sam Riegel and Ashley Johnson they do a great job playing to the characters but also putting a cool spin on it
I don't know if i can agree that their little elves....and I can't see the halfling/hobbit as mini humans....all 4 are very different races to me. culturally, mechanicly and mentally.
My little twist is I let you reroll 1s. That's been a thing forever. That's not really a twist. It's very very very very very very very very very very common.
Yes, for people who have played a game for a long time, it's common. But for new people, or people new to my games, they might not understand why my rolling system is different from the books. Hence the explanation.
A High School Microcosm: A shy girl whose gonna make it big because she was learning the whole time, An entitled girl who is becoming a "Karen" eventually, a cocky boy who is gonna get humbled by life.
I don’t like the re role 1 rule he has. I like my players to have one stat they are really bad at. Like one of my guys played an orc fighter who thought he was a super ladies man and really personable. But his charisma score was 7
You can be anything in the PHB! (Except Drow) Let Anna play what she wants (An Elf) and give her better in game stats. 18 Cha 14 Dex 14 Con rather than the 19/15/13 mess you ended up with. I like world restrictions sometimes but don't misinform and sabotage newer players for "My Precious World" syndrome. That sucks!
On the one hand, I get what you're saying - the DM should let the player make their character the way they want. But on the other hand, the DM is the creator of the game world, and if the DM decides that certain races don't exist in their world, then that's it. It's not like Anna came with a character all ready to go and Bill said, "oh, sorry, that race doesn't exist in my setting. You're going to have to start over." Instead, he found an option that both works for her as a player, and works with her class. And besides, since she's playing a Warlock, she doesn't really need to have a high CON, assuming she doesn't decide to run into melee. Besides, is it really worth playing a Drow and getting a piddly +1 CHA, when it also means rolling at disadvantage on attack rolls in daylight? Because I can almost guarantee that Anna have more fun playing a half-elf than a Drow, even if she did want to play a full elf.
thor30013 YOU can't guarentee what someone ELSE wants when you don't give them the option. Perhaps she would think that Bill is right after all. I think it sucks SHE didn't get to make that choice. I hope that he just missed that option and off camera takes the time to explain the pros and cons of both and lets her make the decision. Mechanics wise it's direct sunlight not daylight. And as GM and master of the universe you can do many things with it. It's cloudy today. We're fighting in the forest. We're dungeoneering. Today it's clear and bright and you're going to have to deal with the consequences of choices that you made. But that's it. A choice YOU made. D&D is a game of choices. A hitpoint per level is a lot to give up. A GM is the master of the universe and campaign agreed and at the start of a campaign they should set out the expectations. "You can choose any option in the players handbook!" was the expectation. And the actual? I'm going to choose for you. That's my objection. I really enjoy this series and seeing newer players play and realise what the possibilities are. One of the most fascinating things however is seeing a GM like Bill. He's got a grip on what his idea of D&D is and hopefully the kids and the exposure to the comments will get him to examine it.
17,14,12,12,10,9 Human (+1 Dex, +1Cha) with feat Resilient Dex or +1 Cha. +1 for the 9 and Lucky. Drow, background Artisan: Tinkerer's Tools -> Umbrella. What do you think?
DMs impose restrictions all the time, ppl should stop prettending DMs are an endless well of tales capable of weaving anything out of thin air to satisfy every whim of the players, RPGs are open ended but theres gota be some limitations cause DMs are hummans. Also players play on the DM table, if the DM is not to your style, change tables, its that simple and there are quite a few different types of DMing. Some ppl think Matt Mercer sucks for example, cause he narrates too much and stear things in some momments, well then don't play with DMs like him, search for a more Matt Colville like DM, who runs way less structured games, or something. I do hate dice rolling for stats tough, someone always feels cheated cause he got the sucky rolls while someone else just rolled like a beast and is stellar in every stat. Point buy is far superior.
Some of these kids are annoying, going on about making money off the videos while showing little respect for Bill or the game itself. if you want to make money off of something like this, publish it yourselves and be good at it or at least entertaining. playing D&D is something I wish I did in high school, but as it was a Vocational Technical School, there weren't any programs at all unless it was sports or robotics. even now I am trying to find people to play with just because I like to try acting in character (voice and mannerisms) and imagine the scenario that is laid out before me. Good for you, Bill, not monetizing this and doing it for the students and bringing what you enjoy about the game to the table.
They literally were just asking questions out of curiosity. If you shut children's questions down, they'll refrain from asking questions and their curiosity will wane. And he's like a cool uncle to them, not as much of a teacher as much as their DM when they're there. Also for finding people to play with, if you don't care about online D&D then you can check out a D&D subreddit, there's plenty of people searching for games all the time, of all levels of experience.
Anna and Heather are two ends of the same spectrum of role players. Heather has a "one of the team" personality, she wants to shine, but wont do it at the expense of the rest of the team. She is playing what most games consider a support class, in an actual supporting role (eg. heals and buffs), while keeping her party on their feet as must as her spell slots allow. Anna, only seems interested to be the centerpiece table, she tries to create her own race (and tries to impose totally out of line and over powered stat bonuses), she cuts Bill off while he is trying to spell out "Fey" for the viewers (not all of the audience are seasoned vets themselves so words like Fey are new to them), and wants to get the last word in on the session with her "I wanna be a Pirate". As a D&D player with 25 years of experience (more than half of that time as a DM), I have found the best way to reign people with Anna's personality in is to smack them in the face right off the bat in the first combat encounter, leave them bleeding and unconscious on the floor, begging for someone else in the team to keep them alive (totally justifiable as an attacking party will likely go for the most boisterous player first, because low intelligence monsters will just be able to spot them first, and higher intelligence monsters will think they are the leader and use that tactically). Then follow it up with a positive reinforcement bonus (loot, XP, NPC attention, etc) to the player that does end up saving her. The combination of being knocked out in the first round, and seeing another player receive rewards from their failure, tends to make them jealous, and usually brings them back into line. This method either works out really well, and really fast, or you end up with one less at your table, because your other players either vote them away, or they stop coming on their own. If you run into someone with this personality, most times your best bet is to start looking for a replacement before Session One.
Or... You could just let her character be egotistical and fun, and let her play her character in whatever way she wants to. As long as people are having fun, Why would you punish players for making whatever characters They want to make?, especially When the players are a bunch of High Schoolers. I say that if there are any problems in the table, the good solution would be to just go to the player and explain the situation and ask him to tone it down. Going with In-Game solutions for Out-of-game Problems only could result on real-life problems.
" i wanna play a cool elf warlock" not an elf warlock but a "cool elf warlock" sry hon thats not how it works, atleast in my games you cant just state "my character is cool" and thats how it just is. that depends on how you play the character, and not your statements. So cringey.

Even there worst rolls are still better than mine. I have absolutely terrible luck. I have made hundreds of characters and have had only one stat higher than 16.
Where's the video when they picked the classes and races?
off camera
I had a tiefling warlock inspired by Ethan Nestor, aka Crankgameplays. His patron was an ancient God named Markiplier.
Cool
I was introduced to D&D by a friend, I get most of the stuff but what does it mean when the DM says check? What's the purpose of it?
A check is a test to see if you succeed or fail at something: Roll a die, add your modifiers, and see if you beat some target number.
For example if you're trying to parkour off some walls in a dungeon the DM may ask you to make an acrobatics check to determine if you succeed or slip and fall on your face. Players can request a check too: If you're dealing with a merchant you may make an insight check to see if they're being forthright in their dealings or trying to swindle you.
31:30 LMAO
Wait, was it higher than cooper’s or still wasn’t? I gotta know
Not sure
Sean looks like such a dude-bro.
He's not; he's definitely a gear head woodshop bro. Cars and woodworking are his occupation now.
@@BillAllanWorldthat's so nice! i'm glad he's found something he likes :)
Eldritch Blast is a ranged spell attack and has a range of 120 feet. Though she could use chill touch instead if she wants to be creepy.
thanks!! i did that actually :>
You can tell he hates Anna
yeah. she shouldn't be so defensive.
she can do that when she's 40.
Nah
28:55 - wait what actually happened there?
what indeed?
Nice rolls Sean, I wish i could be more enthusiastic about your character but I've had a long standing hatred of gnomes. Mainly cause everyone i've seen in video games, and most ones i've seen played in my RL games have all been annoying, please don't play your gnome that way. It is your character though so in the end its all in your court :)
Christina Wandell I believe you should check out some Critical Roll clips of Sam Riegel and Ashley Johnson they do a great job playing to the characters but also putting a cool spin on it
I'll try :) thanks
Just think of it this way: gnomes are mini elves like how halflings are mini humans!
I don't know if i can agree that their little elves....and I can't see the halfling/hobbit as mini humans....all 4 are very different races to me. culturally, mechanicly and mentally.
Ashley's gnome cleric i love, Sam's bard...not so much. but I see your point.
I wanna be a pirate too lol
6:01 :p
My little twist is I let you reroll 1s. That's been a thing forever. That's not really a twist. It's very very very very very very very very very very common.
Yes, for people who have played a game for a long time, it's common. But for new people, or people new to my games, they might not understand why my rolling system is different from the books. Hence the explanation.

Ha!
9:20 4th of july special?
indeed
Number 3 ads are annoying
When ya kids want you to make money xD
LoL
A High School Microcosm: A shy girl whose gonna make it big because she was learning the whole time, An entitled girl who is becoming a "Karen" eventually, a cocky boy who is gonna get humbled by life.
Interesting analysis.
17,14,12,12,10,9
Human (+1 Dex, +1Cha) with feat Resilient Dex or +1 Cha.
I was actually thinking it would be interesting if her "cool elf" was drow
Calm down.
I only calm up, thank you very much.
Potato Party it was aimed at the OP though, but thanks for sharing :)
Now that's just being over sesitive. Are sheltered or one of those Millennial haters?
Anna is pretty annoying. Still will think it'll be fun
*The lady in red is very defensive.*
Is she in high school or is she a middle aged "Karen"?
good question
" i wanna play a cool elf warlock" not an elf warlock but a "cool elf warlock"
sry hon thats not how it works,
atleast in my games you cant just state "my character is cool"
and thats how it just is. that depends on how you play the character, and not your statements.
So cringey.
Ha
