      It CAN be done...it's all in our attitudes, right? If I think something is going to be hard, it is...if I think it's going to be enjoyable and easy...it often is. Who knows...we might end up on the same trip on of these days. How fun!!

    I've used Victor Cabs for years every single time I go to Paris: to and from airport and train stations. Staying in small boutique hotels is the best. I have stayed at Hotel Pas de Calais in 6th for years and it's been owned by same family for 100 years. It's like going home every time I arrive -- owner and all staff are just the best and now I know them all and they know me. So, yes, small boutique hotels are the way to go. Just found your site and am loving it! I"m 73 and usually I have somebody tagging along but plan to do more alone when I cut back on work. Will be back there Dec - January -- all the way from Raleigh, NC. I go every year now and always for 12/31 and usually stay through mid-January.

    So glad I found your channel. As a travel advisor I totally agree with what you said about solo travel. When I travel, I like to eat my hotel breakfast and then have a later lunch out and maybe do something simple for dinner. I will often stop at a grocery store or shop and get a baguette, some cheese and wine then eat in my room as I relax, read, and wind down.

      We are kindred spirits! Love your wind down comment...a good book, baguette, cheese and a glass of wine...doesn't get much better.

    I’m getting ready to go on my second Rick Steves tour. The first one was Italy a couple of years ago, and the next one is Istanbul for a week in October. I also went to Athens by myself, took an inexpensive cruise and saw some islands. I don’t mind having lunch by myself while traveling, but I wish I had company at dinner. Don’t like feeling conspicuous when everyone else is with a group. It’s also lonely.

    Thank you for your opinions. For over 20 years I traveled Solo around the world. It never bothered me going alone to several functions. Even in the Middle East where you don't see these situations. I fully understand the freedon to be by myself and enjoy it. Love to be with friends but is better to be Solo.

    I finally went for my first solo trip last year......loved it for the reasons you stated...only person I had to keep happy was myself. Liberating to say the least but I have got to say I got some blow back from some folks. Traveling alone???? Something wrong with your marriage? Your husband lets you go??? was probably the most disturbing question. I plan on taking more solo trips in the future.

    • @extraordinarywomennextchapter
      @extraordinarywomennextchapter  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Incredible that people ask those questions, right? Most of the trips I go on are filled with women who are married but traveling solo. Those are your kindred spirits!!

    If you can get over to the South of England, i highly recommend Saga cruises. They have a lot of single cabins, and special 'meet and greet' occasions. I am in a couple and have done 7 cruises, which have been amazing. It's for over 50s. I see many singles.

    My husband will travel some but he loves staying home and watching Netflix more. Frankly I want hobbies, adventure, and new experiences more than him. Solo travel! Thanks for this helpful podcast.

      Thank you for joining me Sheila- and on every tour I go on, there are married women who are traveling solo because their partners don't enjoy it as much.

    I am 74 and since my divorce when 30 years old, I travel excessively by myself and enjoy myself so much. I have travelled 4 times with friends also, but have no issue with going myself on my time schedule. I do an itinerary and know before where I may be dining or what I am doing that day and that schedule an change. I have met so many nice people and stayed friends with many.

    Thank you for a great video. I took away some great tips about booking smaller boutique hotels; meal planning; and using taxis. I am probably more of a budget traveller so AirBnb’s have been more affordable for me . However your tips are useful for all. You have a new subscriber ❤

    I’m 63 and traveled solo for 30+ years. After 40 countries, I’ve learned how to manage every situation. I use hotels & Airbnb’s but one stay I had is a teaching moment for others. I rented a lovely loft in Barcelona for 3 months that was perfect. One night around 2 am, a drunk man started banging on the door, screaming at me to open up. A neighbor called police who came and arrested him. Turns out my host broke up with her boyfriend and never told him she was going away. Thank goodness he didn’t have his own key!

      How terrifying!! That’s an aspect of airbnb’s that I don’t especially like. That said, we can have issues anywhere…just need to be careful but still have fun. It sounds like you managed it all perfectly!

    I started solo travelling to Europe from Australia in 2017. My husband will not do long haul flying so I thought I would do a solo bus tour around Ireland. I loved it for the reasons you mentioned. I also am an outgoing person so have no trouble interacting with fellow travelers but at the end of the day I enjoy my solitude and I can do what I want.

      Well, it became my dream after a long and painful divorce. I didn't jump into it though, I took my time and rented places for longer and longer periods of time. I still go back and forth though because I have family in the USA.

      @@extraordinarywomennextchapter I understand and it's wonderful that you have managed to make it happen plus it's ideal to be able to go back and forth, you get a bit of both US &France ..;-)
