- Squid are a staple foot for many saltwater fish. I know when I used to work as a deck hand on boats in California, that we would almost guarantee catches if we could find live squid to give to our customers.
They are light cream colored invertebrates, but can change to a dark red when they get agitated or excited. So I tied a darker red color for my customer, and a lighter one as well with some red hints to look like it is starting to change to the darker color.
I originally got this pattern from a guy I follow on Instagram who lives in Australia, he runs TS Adventures Instagram channel. He allowed me to tie up this pattern a few times for video. Ive since changed it to my individual needs and style of tying and hence now this is what Ive come up with.

I like these kind of flies for the salt, because they offer a good deal of protection against toothy critters that can easily break your line. I think I have an older vid of your's saved on a list of a very similar style from years ago.
Thanks, yeah I did one of these a while back. And for sure, there is a bit of protection with the wire brush for sure!
I need to tie this as a rainbow, eyes in the front. Love this pattern, thanks
Thanks, I’ve got another video on a rainbow trout with a joint in the middle.
Here is the link to that video. Maybe it will help. th-cam.com/video/aMZpAVWMLrc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=J3OoD6fBB_InrLuS

Another great tutorial.
Glad you liked it!
Великолепно 👍🤝🙋♂️
Great fly . There's a bit of work to tying it . What species are you targeting?
I’m not sure what species my customer is targeting to be honest, something salt water I’m sure. He is in Florida.
What weight rod do you throw these with?
I can toss them with most 7-8wt…. I’ve been able to get them out decently with a stiffer 6wt
Bro, you can rub some candle wax onto your bobing on the part where the clipping are to stop the sqicking noise.
Yes, but it takes away all the friction and makes it come out too loose. I tried that before and I ended up wiping it all off.
