I totally agree with you on this, ever since I got a decent pair of headphones I've been listening for small details that I didn't even understand until months later when I saw a video explaIning delay/EQ/compression/reverb etc.
Oh my gosh! Headphones make such a big difference! When I got my first pair of decent headphones I was hearing new things in songs I'd been listening to for years! Crazy!
