I've known this for a long time growing up Mexican with a dad who had several lowriders. He would always tell me that we needed to go to Japan and check out their low rider scene. This is my first time really getting to see it!
in Japan exists all car cultures around the world in a masive level, like you can see here, and even european cars taked to the limit of customization.
Diligent Media Japan has always had a bit of admiration of the West/Europe in their culture. A lot of Anime and video games are set in or influenced by Europe from the middle ages, and a lot of the characters are blonde-haired/blue-eyed.
then theres just EDM in the corner there with their tiny hatchbacks hoping they'll still be relevant. At least business people like their executive sedans.
it's crazy how much they got into Chicano culture it's starting to take off not only there but in the Philippines and Taiwan still surprises me to see low riders in Japan much respect from SoCal
McFreshfleisch Except here in the middle east where Mazda MX5's are really unpopular due to the mx5 only entering our market just 9 years ago and everyone preferring to own a Muscle car or something like a Skyline, supra...etc over a Miata. Sadly.
That white MonteCarlo Aeroback is SUPER rare even here in US, they added that slanted rear glass into a very small number of production cars just to justify that shape for Nascar. Great video bro!
What I found most surprising is most of the Honda's and nissan's from this meet looks, by westerners standards, "Riced" yet in their over-the-top looks it's elegant... almost forgot the 2000's are long gone.
playerDJFL Some Honda's and other brands that were at this meeting were customized like people did back in the 90's as a "LOWRIDER" in Cali' like the pink and turquoise ones at 4:40! Also the CRX DEL SOL at 5:15 just looks like it came straight out of '99/2000 from California with a time machine... ✌ 👍
The one that you said is definitely an import is actually a Monte Carlo Aerocoupe which was a homologation model for NASCAR. Pretty rare spot even in the US. The car at 7:15. And his number 3 custom plate is likely a reference to Dale Earnhardt whose NASCAR number was 3 and who raced an Aerocoupe.
Nothing will ever beat California’s culture when it comes to lowriders 💯👌 but it sure is nice to see how a culture of wherever sort expands throughout the world 🌎❤️
@@Kev27RS oh yeah, i forgot its the same place lol, im not American and its rare to see someone not making fun of someone making a mistake so.... Thanks bud
Im glad that all of those late 60's impala's are being taken care of over there. If most of those were here in the states, they would not be in good condition.
This makes me happy. I have heard that Japan pumped enough money into SoCal hydraulic shops to keep them afloat during some rough times. And I love the fact that they import USDM Japanese cars back to Japan.
8:15 My dad loved his Impalas, too. He had a '65 mellow-yellow convertible w/black top that I vaguely remember. Sadly, it was rear ended on the expressway. Dad then got a red '68 Impala after that, but it wasn't a convertible. He worked & retired from Ford Motor, but he was always an "Oldsmobile Man" at heart.
Thanks for getting the minitrucks in man!!! The D21s are unreal! I own one here in Australia and love it to pieces. Japan just seem to do every car culture better than where they even originated haha.
Lowriders have been a big thing in Japan since the 80's. You know the "Touch of Gold" 1963 impala from Boyz N the Hood? Well it's owned by a person in Japan. Crazy how people are barely finding out about this.
The white Monte Carlo at 7:18 is actually an Aerocoupe, which was a limited run of Monte Carlo SS's that were basically homogenized for NASCAR during the late 80's
Man, Japan has the best bits of American car culture, European rally culture, drift culture, street racing culture, motorbike culture etc. list goes on. How i would love to visit Japan
Wow they still emulate what Lowrider shows once were here in Los Angeles in the 90's? Even the Mack 10 hit records are playing in the background. I was so into this in the 90's. I grew out of the Lowrider scene by 1998.
I definetly enjoyed it mate.. I had to subscribe cuz you went and checked out the Mopona aka Pomona car show. Im a Mexican American from California and this gets a 2 thumbz up. Nice how finished it off at the end of vid. Bouncin in the low low mate.
+Tj hain Don't get me wrong I understand where you're coming from. There are alot of classic cars that people in America are trying to find but they can't because of this slight problem. But I do have to hand it to them they do actually take care of the cars very well some of them don't even have hydraulics and they still look well. Unlike here I love Skylines but I get scared to see one roaming the streets of America due to the fact of how long before it gets stanced, stripped and fitted with a fart exhaust.
im a part mexican and japanese dude living in california. i like the pomona reference. i was just out there last night and now im hungover watching your video.

I love Japan I cant believe it how it has so different car cultures! Drifting to Low Riders than American Muscle! CRAZY!
Smilez101 don't forget the bosozoku and led kei cars!
It's fantastic! after all the Japanese are about as passionate and crazy about cars as much as the Italians are!

Perry Watkins Yep, we call it Mexiflush lol.

PWAT-GEETHUR
Yes, that was the style as a LOWRIDER people did on japanese models back in the 90's! 👍
It's weird how Japan loves usdm and the rest of the world loves jdm
not so weird, American cars are rare there and that makes them exotic, same for the rest of the world

Japan has a weird fascination of Western Culture. Hell, they even have their own version of weebs, that loves to speak broken english and shit.
EDM? European Domestic Market or are you talking about house music? be more specific

LOL! I live like 5 minutes from the Pomona swap meet so this is pretty hilarious to me. Come out to California and we'll go check it out.
Hey, I might have to take you up on that.
noriyaro we'll go check out the Sriracha factory while we're at it haha.
I now have the urge to play GTA San Andreas
