I always wish that his sound was about 2 to 3 dB higher in the mix. That's in the studio and in the live mix. Saw them at MSG last week, incredible show! Just wanted a little more Cory. And that's coming from a bassist.
This is what happens when a group of people who have a genuine love for music get together. No egos and genuine respect for each other and their musical backgrounds which guys like Stevie contributed to. Big ups to Stevie, Rocket Love is my personal favorite.
You're damn skippy. Dude absolutely smokes. Joseph, has some great, clean, staccato funk lines , with a tone very similar to Flea's Blood Sugar Sex Majik-era Sting Ray/Wal Bass tone.
This was perfect almost. The talk box or golden throat. Well I see no one ever got all the bugs out. They would get this dam pick up hiss. Everyone of them. But this is very cool though. Maybe the cool people at Sweetwater can take a look. Very cool to see this in use though.
I like how you can even see Cory's funk face in the reflection of the divider behind Antwaun. Truly an awesome group of incredibly talented individuals.
Seen (listened) to this clip like a hundred times. Never gets old. For an old dude like me, it's so heartwarming to see that younger artists are producing real, intelligent and genuine music. Haven't read all the comments, but does anyone know what Steve thought of this? I bet he was blown away..
Haha - Jeeez ! - I used to listen to Stevie & his original version ! - Oh! - Way back in the late 70's - On the radio breakfast show - Before we went to school - ( Ha! Showing my age now ! ) • Sir Duke • He's Mistra know It all • Isnt she lovely • My cherie amour • All got played prime time back then - Unfortunatly we dont don't seem to hear much of Stevies great music nowadays on a normal radio broadcasts ! - It's always on a soul night - Or a motown night when his songs get paraded about ! British Isles - Stay safe all !
This is such a beautiful understated performance. Theo's talkbox work took me a few listens to really appreciate, but the more I listen to this version of one of my favourite tracks ever I find that it's Woody who is just on another level here. It's beautiful, elegant and jazzy, but it complements the funk so well. Cory's precision 3/4 of the way into the recording on the 1/16ths always brings a smile of amazement too.
I’m this close to quitting my engineering bachelor to attempt becoming a full time funk master, this cover is bloody phenomenal. Thank you for sharing your fun❤❤
It's fine stuff but you need to listen to Nile Rodgers' work! Thinking of You, Savoir Faire, the end of You Can't Do It Alone, Real People, Modern Love, ... This fine fellow (Cory?) is following a master, the HitMaker. Sadly TH-cam took down anklamer's compilation of Nile Rodgers top riffs and solos.
I spoke to him in person yesterday, hes not tied down to anything but he loves to play with vulfpeck because they have great chemistry together. hes more a solo artist that just plays with vulf a lot.
No one is really a "permanent" member of Vulfpeck, they are more of a musical collective than a band. The guys are free to do whatever they want, and many musicians join in on the Vulf sessions. I suppose you could say that Theo, Jack, Woody, and Joe are the permanent core of Vulfpeck, but there are plenty of tunes that Jack or Theo don't play on because they bring in different musicians for the sessions.
I can't find it anywhere, what in the world are Cory's middle and neck pickups? Surely that's the only reason I don't sound like him when I play. Talent and dedication couldn't possibly have anything to do with it.
Mad, I heard the song by Stevie yesterday for the first time, and thought, "Aaah, so this is where Vulfpeck vibe was born!", and today I see this video. Talk about serendipity :D
This might be THE best vulf out there. I hope it’s not because I always hope there’s always something to strive for… but we may have hit the peak folks. This just might be fuckin it.
Having never heard of Vulfpeck, especially, my fists were raised, ready to strike against any attempt to cover the great Stevie Wonder, but wow - fantastic! Really enjoyed this.
No, just no. His chugging rhythm would sound better through another effects pedal, and Peter Frampton on "Do You Feel Like We Do" live is Mt. Olympus. Respect your elders as Vulfpeck do. (Fantastic song intro though.)
Vulf are one of my fav bands, Stevie one of the greatest composers and artists in soul music and Woody's, Theo's and Cory's solos on here are specially outstanding. Ohh and Antwaun is superb, of course :)
There's just no doubt in my mind Vulfpeck is the most phenomenal thing out there these days. I just love the crap out of them. Always lifts my depression, which is a BIG task.
This video is responsible for carrying me through these tough election-oriented days. Thanks, Vulf. You always lift my spirits, and make me giggle and/or dance.
@Kasper Kleine Tank BTW - I'm black. You're funny. But it still disturbs me that one can be called 'racist', even in jest, for imitating someone, even in jest. Isn't that just crazy??
Having recorded the original, I doff my hat to your version. Well done Gents!

Look a legend ❤️🔥
Phenomenal!
No way! Tonto in the house?!!!! I am so grateful for what you and your mate did! Beyond comprehension, King!
Tonto in the house! How lucky can you be?
Joe Dart taking off the shades for a Stevie Wonder cover is high class
Why do i laugh at this
They should've made everyone wear one except Joe
Wasn't an accidental
this was recorded in 2016. joe didn't start sporting the shades until 2017
It is pretty ironic though
I'm used to watching Vulfpeck in 240p
loll
I think 144p does the vulf right
Vintage digital style
I would be delighted to meet you in a studio, one of these days. Robert
God I hope they've gotten back to you on this Bob
This comment should be on top! That would be a legendary collaboration.
How is stevie
Make this happen!!!!
Can I borrow 7.00$ I'll pay you back on Friday
Love how when Antwaun sings he's playing the air spoons
LOL
I was about to say that
If you watch Cory closely, he looks around as if he just woke up and has no idea where he is and then slowly gets into the groove. Has me dying hahaha
He's like that kid in the back of the car who wakes up already drumming to Nirvana
LMAOOOO
Gets it together for the outro though. Holy crap!
Coffee beside him. Story checks out.
Hahaha that initial look around like "what funky place have I ended up in now??"
Vulfpeck + Antwaun = guaranteed amazing
Not to mention CORY FUGGIN' WONG
his effort is mesmerizing !
And its all low volume!
Who is it that plays the fender bass again? I forget.
and it's so funky!
Cory is understatedly but consistently on FIRE
can you link an example??
Met him last week, can confirm he is a down and dirty funky Strat master. Nice guy too! lol
His tone is always so spanky I love it
I always wish that his sound was about 2 to 3 dB higher in the mix. That's in the studio and in the live mix. Saw them at MSG last week, incredible show! Just wanted a little more Cory. And that's coming from a bassist.
Too many arpeggios on 7th chords for my taste.
Whew almost forgot to listen to this today

Joe Dart has, is, and always will be, a beast on the bass.
*beastly
Johnny Glass fender bass *
Johnny Glass on the FEN-DER BASS
evens Donald 'Duck' Dunn of Stax & Blues Brothers Fame

Is there anything that Theo Katzman can't do?
Katzman for President 2020
Yes, he can't be humble.
Sanders 😉
Play with a talk box without breathing heavily into the mic?

@SiriusXM get these guys back again!
I love how cory always looks very worried when he's playing
I can not stop listening to this cover. Listened to it like 10 times today lol. Vulfpeck doesn't miss.
@ 3:27 you see why Talkboxes are a full body commitment.
His breath is kinda perfectly timed. That's in the zone baby.
he looks pretty goofy sometimes but you can totally feel his commitment to the song.
If Theo could temporarily become the instrument he's playing, he totally would
It's honestly hard to tell where that man ends and his instruments begin.
Perfect comment
Ive never seen joe darts face, its either a blur or hes wearing sunglasses
I think we all just witnessed him do just that in the video.
Ugh years later still can’t get enough of this!!
I too have to regularly come back

Boogie on Gents. Stevie would dig it. He will be 70 in few daze! HEH!
Props for covering this tune....one of the the funkiest tunes Stevie ever did.....anyone who hasn't heard the original should check it out pronto

I seem to be the only one here in the comment section who clearly prefers the original version, as it grooves much harder for me. Just my opinion.

ur so right, it's woodys amazing chord choice and timing/placement that make the track for me
Cory Wong always seems so surprised of what he and his pals are doing haha love the guy !
@ 2:45 sweet Cory Wong over-the-shoulder stalker face in the glass reflection.
just saw this. hilarious!
I’m this close to quitting my engineering bachelor to attempt becoming a full time funk master, this cover is bloody phenomenal. Thank you for sharing your fun❤❤
2:42 Woody pecking those keys so beautifully
Dude this is crazy! Your channel got me into CBB! I didn't know you were a vulf fan!
Cory’s muted solo is funky as hell
oh my goss that piano solo. so funky and low volume.
This is so perfect. I'm Stevie's biggest fan and I love Vulfpeck. It's the perfect match.
This ain’t a cover but rather a different creation … awe inspiring!
CORY WONG!!!!!!! The rhythm guitar master.
Love this! My son introduced me to it, and it's amazing!
Brave kid!
So great when the drummer's just like: I'll give 'em space. And then that final beat in the end. Magnificent.
The guitar jam at 4:41 is the tastiest thing my ears have ever consumed...

I can't stop watching this video, I just keep coming back for more!
You have to listen very close to hear Cory, but if he wasn’t in it you would definitely tell. He is doing a lot of stuff
Cory in that sweet game winner tee
This is really played live? Hard enough to get it so tight in studio.
That's how Vulf does it, lock tighter than the economy. They live in the groove
Not if ur just good at what you do
How have I just discovered Vulfpeck!?! Deities down off Mount Funkolympus to pump us up!
is Antwaun a permanent member of Vulfpeck yet?
YohAquino2 yes

They wanted to be like Wrecking Crew, Funk Brothers, Muscle Shaols. They got that. They now need their Brian Wilsons, Marvin Gayes, Otis Reddings.
Hammer, meet nail.
Bangin!!!!! Best Cover of this song that exists in my opinion. Pure 🔥 🔥 🔥!!!!
just incredible how tight and funky and fun this is- love this band!
Jack supports Barcelona! just when I thought I couldn't love this band more 😍
Visca el Barçaaa
Holy cow that was amazing! So funky and groovy and that piano solo was awesome.
Just noticed Stratton wearing Barça shorts lmao what a GOAT
I still find myself coming back to this! So good!
Love singing along with bassline as an instrument

that's one SICK guitar solo right there
That's not even a guitar, it's a singing... thing
@@StefanReich
Talkbox, not singing. It works kinda like a guitar vocoder
"We should use that in every intro"
Having never heard of Vulfpeck, especially, my fists were raised, ready to strike against any attempt to cover the great Stevie Wonder, but wow - fantastic! Really enjoyed this.
So wonderful and so short...You work the High Class. Thank you so much !!!
By far the best creation I heard for long time , timing and the space for other fill-inns , workmanship
Deep groove. So tight.
Dig it. Under the radar but I believe one of Stevie wonder's greatest songs ever wrote.
Forever great. Thankful he is still with us.
dat bass tone !
the setup seems quite basic but the playing & tone is impressive!
Love Dart 's approach to funky lines and music
Thelonious Funk So much tone comes from the fingers
Don't forget the flatwound strings on that Jazz bass.
i do not think that he is using flats on this jazz
Hearing his "bass way", I think it is rotosound swing bass 66" for the strings with an ampeg ba-115 hp v1.
Thank you! This is the option when the original source has not been spoiled. Superb!
This is the best song/video on TH-cam. Fight me.
Man, that is a bass tone so massive you can stand on it and look around
Wow . Well said . What a comment
Cory Wong has serious CHOPS. Representing Minnesota real well.
The guy on the blue strat is a genius playing it like a bass
thats cory wong! he actually started as a bass player
Wow guys, what a top class jazz soul version of Reggae Woman, a track by Stevie Wonder that not many people know of. Very nice!!
Congratulations ! Top of the top ! Well done ! from Boogie on Reggae woman :)
Best talk box solo ever
No, just no. His chugging rhythm would sound better through another effects pedal, and Peter Frampton on "Do You Feel Like We Do" live is Mt. Olympus. Respect your elders as Vulfpeck do. (Fantastic song intro though.)
not that it’s a bad solo by any means but frampton’s talkbox solos are just absolute classics.
@D G there is something better than Frampton.
Vulf are one of my fav bands, Stevie one of the greatest composers and artists in soul music and Woody's, Theo's and Cory's solos on here are specially outstanding. Ohh and Antwaun is superb, of course :)
Sick bass sound! Vulf rocks.
RIDICULOUSLY tight! that pocket is what makes these dudes so bad! #fangirl.
Very very true. Tightest band around!
why not #fanboy ?
makes me wonder
lack of vulfpressor though
It’s a sarcastic take on being a fan to the most obnoxious level which is predominantly female fans.
@@homersimpson5964 Thanks, Homer.
Such a smooth voice Antwan. I agree, more talk box from The PECK!
There's just no doubt in my mind Vulfpeck is the most phenomenal thing out there these days. I just love the crap out of them. Always lifts my depression, which is a BIG task.
A very refreshing rendition
that would surely make Stevie "See the Light"
Had to set the quality to 144p to make it feel like vulf
hahahahha VERY true!
ohhhh love the vocoder at the beginning and the vulfpeck intro subtly in the bacground!!
Trent Briden Piano it's not a vocoder, it's a talk box :)
The intro is my favorite part ... of all times XD (it also scares me)
Watching this nearly every day :D
So great!
