Sam is not only an awesome texturing artist but also good human being. I really love his open mindedness and work ethics. He is kind of artist I want to aim to be in the future for sure.

Sam makes texturing with MARI look easy... Every time I try 3D modelling, texturing is the part where I mostly bounce off, mostly because I have little idea how to do it. Maybe I should give MARI a try next time.
there are many in your situation. Nothing to be ashamed of, texturing is a job description of its very own. so while some people have a knack for it, others dont right off the bat. its totally normal to be better at one thing and less versed in another. whats important is you try. each time you try you get a step closer to success.
Hi, this is such a great great content about Mari, I appreciate all your sharing. I wish you can do this sort of interview about skinning shoulder, skinning animated clothes, and character rotomation. These contents are rare and never been interviewed and in depth sharing yet.
Wow, that's gorgeous :P Can I ask how long the process takes? I'm a beginner in 3D design and I'm curious what kind of timeframe I should aim for in the process. Right now it seems like it would take an eternity getting there.
How do you create shader for different layers of SSS in arnold .Does anyone know what node to use for that? There is that sss layers node documentation on maya website but I guess it doesn't exist in newer versions of maya because I can't find it.
Hi, Great Channel. Sam says paint one half and then flip it over. What is the difference with painting with symmetry activated if the character is in t-pose or in a symmetrical pose? Thanks!
When he is talking about using 128 GB memory, does he mean regular RAM or VRAM? 128 GB ram is quite achievable and affordable, but I don't know if videocards has that much VRAM? Maybe some high end Quadros do?
@@Outgang im asking because he used a regular image to project an albedo, which is pretty oldschool! I also wonder, by projecting the height and colour, they won't match, wouldn't that be an issue ?
@@IGarrettI That's something I should've asked him during the interview. In my experience not every variation you'd want in skin tones are things you'd want to see reflected in the displacement and vice versa and there's a few techniques that can be used as well to go from one to the other. A curvature pass can be extracted from the displacement to influence/color the albedo in different ways, and an albedo can be converted to displacement using it's luminance.
@@Mikefiser Yeah it's not you. I had to splice together a few different camera captures with audio of different sources. I did my best but there's places where it's slightly off.
If only I had 1/100 of this guy's skill... But being a solo game dev that has to work on game design/developing, 3d modeling, level design, sound design, story, and a bunch of other stuff, is impossible for me to spend nearly enough time in order to learn anything even remotely close to this level.
Weird note: that young (NOT JUDGING GENDER IDENTITY) woman makes the most awkward intro... what where those pauses for? what about the fixed dead eyed staring at, I guess, the camera? isnt her neck sored from the weird pose and angle? Please for your sake and health, act more loose and naturally.

His workflow is really good. I liked the idea of gathering images from real life and projecting it on the mesh. The skin and details look so good.

Love your channel,
Thank you so much
Absolutely love you and your content. So professional through the entire interview. Been recommending this channel to all my friends in my art circle
Thank you so much Pranesh!
I have been really intrigued with texturing with Mari. Seems that many pieces that blow me away have a Mari workflow.
Multiple SSS maps kinda blew my mind. Thank you for this video! Super informative!
Great content as always, seeing interviews with the best artists, going into such detail is rare. Demystifying the dark arts! Thanks
It's a pleasure Me Tube! I love to craft content like this when I know people like you appreciate it.
Great video. You were very professional. 💪I just love it when people share tips and methods respectfully and with straight forward diction.
I see that there was a lot of inspiration from the movie Lilo and Stitch for the creature, they both look very similar.

This is a AAA content, truly I believe that Outgang it's making purely high quality content, thanks so mucho Laura
Much love, thank you for your comment!
@Outgang can you make video of lookdave . how to use maps
keep it up with the awesome videos!! much love!

Thank you for the video! interesting to watch.
Very interesting video, I have no idea about doing any of this but I enjoy watching it 👌
That's awesome haha!
This is how you'll learn! One morning you'll wake up and be a pro :)
Perfect. Thanks
太棒了 Laura是全身心的投入到教育了
谢谢 :)
Very interesting session
does anyone know how to paint with projected image like that in blender?
just curious
I found it
creating a new brush with a texture set to stencil.

Greatttt video
22:40 How to combine the maps into rgb channels?
Absolutely awesome vid. Going to try applying these ideas to 3D coat cause I'm poor lol
Hi, Great Channel. Sam says paint one half and then flip it over. What is the difference with painting with symmetry activated if the character is in t-pose or in a symmetrical pose? Thanks!
That's a great question. We'd have to have a Mari expert answer that one.
Thank you
This is dope!!!
Very interesting, thanks for sharing.
Excellent content
awesome stuff, congrats 🤘
Maybe I didn't notice that, but can Mari project and warp patch multiple images on each separate layer? That's the key for me to purchase this course
Oh there's no course to sell here. We don't have mari content on the website, not right now at least.
@@Outgang that's sad
@@Jason_Silent It's something I'm looking to address :)

Definitely the RAM.
@@Outgang thank you! ❤️ I got confused. I don't know Mari that we'll, but for Substance Painter you depend on your VRAM to paint and export.
the audio is unsync during the intro. audio is 1 or 2 frames before the video.
I'll try and fix that going forward, thanks.
The texture @ 12:47 is perfect for a project im doing, any idea where it is available at?
But also, create content as always!
Your supermarket may sell baloney. Bring a good camera! ;)
what's a good place one can get textures for projecting?
texturingXYZ comes to mind, plenty of other websites offer cheap high-res textures too.

Is the wonam video or her voice computer generated? Why isn't it in sync?
I'm transgender and this is my normal voice.

I suppose if this was a game creature you'd use way less UDIMs for the texture and UVs. Anyways, nice video.
Thanks for the compliment! Yeah you'd have like, 1 to 3 UDIMs for a game version of the creature.
@@Outgang No worries, and thanks for letting me know. I'm subscribed and looking forward to your future vids :)
we are really living in the cyber punk future i cant even start to describe it
holy 1200 textures?
no wonder the performance is so bad 😅
how would you handle 20 of these in a 3d software?
MipMapping or mountains of available RAM at render time
It's not a realtime asset
