Tiffany forgot about me. I have had two bloodclots and i am on bloodthinners. I also have aspergers. I have sight read 8500 neglected videos. Not one thanks from any ‘hardworking musician’
@@gjeacocke just watched your piano videos and you're very talented! But I don't think this is the place for negativity. Think about it, she has almost 300K subs on TH-cam, there's no way she could watch everyone
@@ab0mb86 i asked her a question when she went live and i said : do you like sight reading? And she replied i love sightreaders. It is the right place. For she has connections. She has another channel that interviews musicians. Are you saying you want me to be POOR and without a wage? Negativity? You are a prat.
Your sight reading is out of this world, I find Bach extremely difficult for sight reading, polyphony + fingerings + articulation, everything at once...good luck for your upcoming concert!
Watching this multiple times... Learning much to change about myself~ especially to free myself to more joy & exploration in learning. “Shameless” was especially freeing + more realistic for me. I appreciate + carefully consider your every edited /added comment in the videos; please take heart that even with those brief notes you are helping people grow in a personal journey with classical music - by how particularly you share your own process - thus making classical music more engaging and your candor helping us pursue the effort of practice + study as more accessible. All you have done is greatly valuable to me. I only studied 5 years in my 30’s, then struggled with a serious illness for decades. At advanced age I now seek to start again, which is hard work; and so your shares of ideas and insights prevent me from sinking, and move me forward for the pure joy of needing + loving this musical language. I thank you ever more.
I LIKE this format. I don't get to play piano nearly as much I want, but when I touch my piano, I record myself (not exercises) just in case I stumble onto something new. I don't have to worry about playing it enough to remember it, I just listen to it and after hearing it enough I know what I want to change and eventually it becomes a general form I can repeat. I can read music somewhat, (jazz lead sheets with just the melody lines and chords), but transcribing is my next challenge. So don't worry about the sound quality. As long as it's loud enough and doesn't distort, it's just fine.
Thank you so much for the advice! I started playing again and I took little pieces that are easy to play to get some practice sight reading (also a good way to get my fingers used to playing again). And so true about the sense of music and try to imagine how you want it to sound and go for it. And the advice I loved was just to go for it and not be afraid of mistakes... (so I would say that to you too, you're doing great I love watching your videos, made me want to listen to tons of more classical music)
Absolutely love the raw footage! Its comforting to know that even the most skilled pianist can stumble in the passages where the pattern breakes. This suite is so joyful, and you seem to have pinned down the articulation from the get-go. Wish I had such a natural way of playing portamento. I remember your masterclass with Lang Lang at an early age, and look at you now. Bravo Tiffany!
You notice and comment only when you miss an occasional note. What I hear are all the others you hit perfectly while sight reading! You are so skilled! Keep positive and thanks for sharing.
Wow, that's a first that I am first! 😁 I like this new format, Q&A first and then the practical part. I will be there January 23 to watch the suite and all good other things with Jan.
There's something about your videos that completely draws me in...I think it's you Tiffany ♥️ I really love the way you show us normal ppl the daily life of a musician....i hope your dreams and aspirations all come true♥️
Dear Tiffany, you are a phenomenally talented and hardworking musician, you are such an inspiration not just to pianists, but to anyone learning an instrument!
I love this - how exciting! I completely understand the pressure of filming practice etc. During lockdown I started using my TH-cam more frequently and recently my channel blew up - I kind of feel vlogging will be nicer when I have performances (which will actually happen more this year - yay!). Hope the concert goes well and I look forward to seeing more!!!❤
My 🎹teacher taught me how to sight-read music. And he would take a index card and block all the notes, except the ones I need to read, and move it along the page. That really helped me!!😁
Thank you Tiffany for inspiring me to really practise the piano and taking lessons again after 35 years! I always loved to sight read but wasn’t motivated enough to work at a piece to get it better until now. I’m glad I found your TH-cam channel!
Looking forward to the concert. It is always interesting to follow you preparing and then hear it “for real” at the end. Just like the Mozart cadenza at your last Dreamstage concert.
Taking lessons for piano. I don't necessarily plan to be a virtuoso in it, but learn enough to play gigs and church services. Your knowledge of the instrument is an inspiration!
I've been playing for just over a year now and i found that learning to play the only Bach piece i now play without looking to be really helpful , in fact i recorded it on the first occasion that i tried doing so and it worked pretty much first time . But one thing from a begginer perspective that i find to be equally as helpful is , rather than memorising " forgetting " the music partially or in some cases completely . It seems to provide a nice " gape " in which to learn something new and to become compilative in repetoire and therefore memory ( once returning to the forgotten ) . But with that i find also that " peaking " is important . I guess what I'm trying to say is that although fingure placement is largely quite a simple mathematical process in comparison to reading , it sometimes seems silly to not look when the head is ultimately pulled in a certain direction , as naturally in our other life situations we will use a simple blinking of the eye to confirm that change in direction , just as when reading ! . Perhaps this is a begginer strife ! , I will say that it builds confidence and therefore perhaps , is a path to actually changing or substituting the times in which usually i would blink to comprehend a wind or predict the turn of a page , or simply acknowledge a moment in verbal communication , in which it seemed right if not polite , to close the eyes instantaneously . Anyway , loving this new focus for the Vlog Tiffany ....
I really got something valuable from your Vlog Tiffany, and all of the others. Please carry on making music and a Very Happy New Year. All the best for your first concert for 2021.
Happy New Year Tiffany!!! This is exciting!! Congrats!!! 🎉🎊 I totally understand your frustration with Bach, I’m working on the Flute Partita right now and it’s quite a challenge😊
One pianist in my (amateur) music group is a sight-reading savant. He read through the Bruch and Dvorak piano quintets almost without stumbling. He’s not a professional pianist, he’s an attorney. It’s a gift. My voice teacher was also a demon sight reader. I would come into a lesson with a new song and put the music on the piano for her. She would sight-read the accompaniment while I sang, and then give me a detailed critique of my singing, because she could listen to me closely while sight-reading. Amazing. There’s no accounting for the special gifts that people have.
I've known several people like that (accompanists and choir directors are beasts in this regard), and something they all had in common was they had spent a tremendous amount of time sight reading, usually from a young age. Hundreds, thousands of hours reading through endless music.
Hi Tiffany, Happy New Year! As a non-musician I really admire and respect the patience and disciplined practice it takes to play at your level. It would be cool if there were a way to communicate w/ Bach across the centuries and have him critique your work; I think he would (mostly!) approve.🙂💙
I'm happy you found a spot of comfort and security underneath the solid body of a grand piano..which is really counterintuitive as at the same time one might say the last place you would want to be for security would be underneath a grand piano...back on topic ...I really enjoy all of your videos..because it is wonderful for a fantastic pianist and beautiful person such as yourself to invite me on your journey through this musical world we travel through.ps I have to add that I love to wake up with my tools and work related materials all around me!. Lol
Getting my wisdom teeth removed the 23rd so don't think I'm going to be in a great condition for a concert, even online... Glad you get to play on dreamstage again with a friend though :) Also, I love the 3 major key French suites, they just each get more and more heavenly... my favourite is definitely the fourth.
I’m actually really glad you posted this. I’ve lately felt self-conscious as a pianist and my sight-reading skills... I’m actually a piano turned flautist so I do well in sight-reading flute but piano’s just a whole new level. (Flute didn’t seem like a good idea during ZOOM university) My college piano teacher gave me the French suites last semester and I utterly botched up sight-reading in front of her every week. So many incorrect notes and forget articulation! I didn’t sign up for private lessons for next semester cause I was so self-conscious!! Haha but I think I might sign up for next semesters piano lessons after all now!
A famous sight-reading session was Franz Liszt playing from the manuscript of Grieg's new Piano Concerto in a note-perfect reading in front of the stunned composer.
I’m not sure if you’ve talked on this yet, but could you do a video for adults that want to learn the piano? Like cheaper but still great pianos to buy to practice on, your advice, how often to practice, work material you’d recommend, music/pieces you’d recommend to start learning etc. I know some piano but I’d love to dedicate this year to actually practicing and learning everyday but having an idea of where to start to learning some classical music would be nice. Thank you!! ❤️
Hey Tiffany, if you don't like tripods everywhere, it might be a little more tidy to use round base mic stands for your cameras etc. (round heavy base about the size of a dinner plate). They'd both take up less floor space and quickly toss into a closet, or use something like a bike hook in the wall to hang them if there's any spot in your studio apartment that isn't too visible (I dunno). Just an option. If interested, look up Onstage MS7201B ($30), Auray CMS-01 ($10 or $30 Triad Orbit MR-2 if you want gourmet) and a Vello Bubble level ($10-20) if you don't already have something similar. Or just get the stand and a mic stand to camera adapter ($10).
I have to say, hearing the keys does add a different dimension. Do you hear them as a pianist (and tune them out), or does their sound not reach that far while playing?
Don’t forget yourself when it comes to fund raising.

Loved this! Go get your rest now haha
