Thanks for the video! A Nahvalur Original Plus just arrived and it's my first vacuum pen. The filling instructions were for the incorrect model, unfortunately, so I was very confused until I found this video.
Thank you Tom! I've always wanted a vacuum filler but I've been afraid to due to hearing horror stories about cleaning. This really makes me feel better about getting one and keeping it clean!
I have a PenBBS 456 vac-filler, which is really cool. I also have a Narwhal Peter Draws piston filler. I love both pens, but a vac-fill Nahvalur is an even better idea. I'm not convinced by the acrylic, though.
one thing i do with piston fillers that have removable grip sections is i fill them with water with a blunt syringe the same way, then put my thumb tight on the opening and shake it vigorously to dissolve all the residual ink. it speeds up the cleaning quite a bit
Thank you so much for these instructions! I received this for Christmas and the instructions that came with the pen do not work. Your video solved the mystery!
How timely. I ordered this very pen from you 4 days ago and it arrived yesterday. I flushed the nib and barrel 1st off with water and filled the pen with ink. The more I looked at this vac filler (my 1st) I wondered how to clean it between inking. Now I know. Thanks.
I watched just to learn how to pronounce their new name! As a fountain pen enthusiast, I could not show this video to a non FP user, as I feel they would wonder, "Can't you just use a normal pen?"
I've noticed a build up on the post inside the pen behind the rubber gasket of the vacuum mechanism on my pen. Any tips on how to get that part cleaned?
When I get a pen as clean as I can, I then stuff a paper towel in a cup and then let my pen sit in the cup, with the nib touching the towel. It helps eek out whatever is left.
I just cleaned my Original Plus pen. It flushed out easily enough but I noticed a pink ring on the inside of the acrylic; near the piston knob. The ink was Sailor Manyo Nadeshiko, which has a slight pink shading. I'm not about to attempt to disassemble the pen to get at that ring. I just wanted to know if you've had that to happen?
Please don't use alcohol to clean your fountain pen. If anything, use a pen flush like the one Monteverde makes here - goldspot.com/products/monteverde-fountain-pen-flush-to-clean-stubborn-build-up-30ml-bottle
I watched this because I can’t even get my angular to fill in half as much as your first go. I can’t use one hand though as I have arthritis. The ink well only fills to about 4/5mm in height.
I love this video. Totally explained the inking/cleaning process for my first Nahvalur vac filler. Thanks Goldspot Pens!

Great, I'm glad the video helped! Nahvalur really should put the proper instruction card with the pen.

Vac fillers are so much easier to clean if you can remove the section.

I just bought this pen (from you) in blue and purple. The blue is visual delight! They both write super well.
Thank you. Glad you like them both!
Nice fill video. It’s hard to imagine doing so with a pen that’s any dirtier than the inky mess you start with, but the filling technique is spot on.
this was so helpful. Thank you!

Thanks! Just got one today! Very helpful as it is my first vac fill

Thanks. Learned a lot.
I put my freshly cleaned parts in a box with silica packs, to help them dry completely
Thank you, that is an excellent tip. Great way to reuse those packs.
Great video, Tom. Can you remove the piston to clean it and grease the piston seal?
No, Narwhal did not include a wrench for disassembly of the filling mechanism. Nor does the other one that was included with the piston-fill pens fit.
@@GoldspotPens Thanks. When do you think you will get a restock of the blue pen?
We should have more tomorrow.

That's my usual strategy if I can't take the pen apart. -Tom
Excellent! 👍👍
Awesome video! Off topic but who makes that shirt you're wearing? I need some of those!
Thanks, it's Chaps. I probably got it on the clearance rack at Kolhl's or Marshalls.

i just cleaned mine and had the grim ring. i think i got most of it by shaking water in the barrel a few times!
@@raegeesu thank you. It's not a huge problem. I think a lot of us pen enthusiasts are OCD about those type of things.
Satisfying 🖤
What if instead of water you used diluted isopropyl? Would that make any different in cleaning residual ink?

I have a Narwhal Original plus. Cant get ink to fill barrel. Help.
Does following the instructions on this video help? Are you making sure to submerge the nib all the way into the ink?
Do they supply a piston wrench with the pen?
In the same vein, how similar in size is this to the TWSBI Vac Mini? And would the TWSBI wrench work on this pen as well?
No wrench is supplied. The wrench that accompanies the other Narwhal piston-fill models would not fit. Twsbi wrench would not fit, either.

Please review pelikan m1000
'Yeah its cool but I just kind of want to eyedrop, and have the piston make for travel-safe shut of valve'
oh you can do that? sweet!
I thought Nahvalur was still pronounced Narwahl and the spelling change was more about SEO and surfacing their product than anything?
I read it was supposed to be pronounced narwhal too
