I had lessons in Electronics when I was 13. Mostly micro electronics since then. Measure voltage across a circuit, so one probe on the 12v source (fuse) and one on a "ground" - A bare metal bit of van body will do. Turn the meter to 20v DC, as you're expecting between 0 and about 14v, so a 20v scale will be ideal.
You are checking voltage across both sides of an in line fuse!! The voltage potential will be equal, thus the reading will be 0.00 V You need to put the red probe to the fuse and the black to earth ( chassis). That's my quick lesson Dan
Dehumidifiers are ace for drying your Laundry if you cant use an outdoor line. Mine costs about 5 -6 p an hour to run whereas my tumble dryer is about £1- 50 an hour. I also use a heated airer and the combo saves hundreds on the Lecky bill. If you could put an airer/line+ dehumidifier in your garage and close the door you could dry laundry in there during Winter 🙂

Why not use the fuse that comes from the existing unit. You get the power wires and you should be able to get a harness to connect. However the simplest would be to get the red power line and the black negative and have the connections you need

Go to Halfords and give them the van make and model and the type of ice your fitting and they will sell you the correct multi plug to connect the new ice to the van wiring that powers up the radio.

Use the multi plug from original headunit & match to new headunit. I went out for a meal with someone electrician friends. None of them had a starter, they all went straight! for the mains😅

When the storm passed dad & I went out & pulled the roofs back onto the caravans as best we could & nailed them back down. We told the site owner about it & they informed the caravan owners. It could have been a lot worse. There was always something happening😄 Glad thete's not too much damage there

You need the multimeter in continuity mode. Looks like you have it in voltage mode. Voltages of 20v or less should be good, not 200v. That’s why you are seeing a small number. if checking voltages. Although some systems may be 24v. Try taking the fuses out before testing them in continuity mode. Touch each end with the probes at the same time. No beep is bad, beep is good. You can put them back in any way. You should see any breaks in the fuse by looking through the plastic. A torch is handy.😮
Continuity only checks whether the fuse is good or not. Put the black end somewhere grounded and then just use the red lead to check the points on the fuses. The way you're currently doing it Dan, it won't read anything because the fuse is not broken. You're trying to measure voltage across a wire that has no breaks in it. It'll always be 0.00.

You need to set your voltmeter to 20V and not 200 and 600v like you had it set on Checking the battery you’re checking the negative and positive to see the voltage. Checking fuses you need to place the black lead to ground (bare metal maybe a door hinge or door lock should be ground) and the red to see the voltage at the fuses you are checking if they are powered.
The black probe needs to go to the body or chassis (earth/negative) so most black wires etc will be negative then use the red probe separately on the fuses also you want multimeter set above voltage your reading so for 12v you want it set around 20v
Dan you need to put the black prob onto earth, fuses are only on the positive side by just putting the probs on either side of the fuse will not create a circuit therefore it will not give you a reading, if you put the black onto any bare metal of the van i.e. the metal key in the ignition and the other onto the fuse, select 20v on the meter as the voltage is under 20v, you will get a reading from the live fuse, the way I would do it is by pulling the radio out that you already have fitted and check the (normally) red wire up to its connector and check to see if it's live when the ignition is switched off (while having the black prob connect to any bare metal of the van), if not work you way around the cables until you find the correct one, once found you could simply cut that cable and join on to it or use a scotch lock to cut into it without cutting it if you know what I mean.... Hope this helps.

Phone contracts are getting worse. Here in Germany I've been paying 50 euros per month and have just cancelled it after the 2 years contract was up. Just trying to cut back a little on expenses. You are starting it wrong - the black wire has to be connected with ground (which you find at any metal part, screw ...) Then you put the red one onto one fuse and it should read 12...14 V. I've had fun with the storm here in North wales😮 2 trees down fell right on my bungalow .1 was a 60 foot conifer🤦♀️ we live in a little cul de sac and another 50 ft conifer came down at the neighbours opposite and blocked the road.Council came and were here all Sunday clearing up.Some damage to the gables end its come away from the wall and nearly snapped.Some loose tiles and some damage to main wooden roof beam under the slates.Hardly slept sat nite as the wind was still horrific and you could here the tree creaking and shifting .I was terrified it was going to come through the actual roof🙈.Just got more clear up and of course roof repairs( dreading that) could've been even worse tho, as me and the hubs could hear the tree cracking and both said God that's gonna go move the car .He literally got in the car, re parked away from the tree ,got out of the car and BANG It was down! smashed into the bungalow roof! Just 10 seconds between him moving the car and tree falling .So it was like Delamere forest outside my house yesterday I kid you not including a huge JCB.😂have to laugh or I would cry😊

You need to be in continuity not volts Dan. I find it easier to take them out. Take a photo of the fuses before you start. Maybe ask Neil to do it. I’m sure he could do with updating his NVQ 😋

Check your hand book for where the fuses are it will tell you what the fuses are for black on an earth point, a piece of metal ie a screw red on the fuse 👍👍

Are you pulling his leg? Because that won't work. When testing a fuse you're testing if the inside of the fuse has failed, the fuse wire.

How did you find that out? If you never knew how to do it you should never have done it right? Or maybe learning is the way forward. I'm learning.

Check your hand book for where the fuses are it will tell you what the fuses are for black on an earth point, a piece of metal ie a screw red on the fuse 👍👍
