@Teletek short version: keir starmer, the current leader of the labour party, ran as a socialist candidate with socialist promises, but has broken all those promises. he is betraying the values and ideals of the labour party. very very long version: labour was founded out of various socialist groups coming together. over time the party's commitment to its founding values has... wavered, but the left always had at least some sway in the party. that was until 1997, when the party had a landslide victory under new leader tony blair, who reformed the party into what was marketed as "new labour". new labour was much closer to what you'd recognise as democrats in america. taking money from corporate interests, diving into whatever wars they could find an excuse for, not doing too much domestically with their power, and what they did do was questionable. the people in power during this time are called "blairites". in 2015, blairites were removed from the leadership by jeremy corbyn, who ran a socialist campaign based on social and economic justice. he was very successful, gaining staggering amounts of new membership and support for the party, but was stifled by the blairites in positions of power in the party who made life difficult, including an attempt to remove him, interference in election campaigning that may have cost labour a victory in 2017, slander campaigns in the media, all kinds of things. for a bunch of reasons, including the brexit policy that keir starmer himself wrote, labour lost the 2019 election. badly. corbyn stepped down for a new leadership election. finally, starmer properly enters the story. he's a lawyer, the former director of public prosecutions (like an attorney general). people liked him because he represented stability. they wanted someone safe, reasonable, respectable. during the campaign, he represented himself as a socialist, and promised not to drop the policies from the last manifesto (corbyn's), which he claimed to think were good policies. naturally, after becoming leader he brought a return to blairite labour. gone was the substance, the policy, the opposition to the conservative government. he broke every campaign promise almost comically fast. he's managed to lose so much support that he's now nearly bankrupted the party, and is begging for corporate donations. it's pathetic, sad, and depressing to be honest.
The holyday's tree is christmas tree It shrouded oft our christmas night And ere their night pass away Their bulbs light dyed its every fold. Then raise the christmas tree high Beneath its shade we'll singing carroll Though cold wind and snowing snow We'll keep the christmas tree standing here. 🎄

Actually the original song (which wasn't written for the Labour Party, it was an international Labour Movement anthem) had its own melody written specifically for it. But people sang it to O Christmas Tree anyway because the lyrics worked. The guy who wrote the song was really pissed off about the fact that people wouldn't sing it "properly" lmao

"though cowards flinch and traitors sneer" keir starmer comes to mind for no particular reason.
I’m an American, can you explain?
@@teletek1776 some Labour supporters believe that Starmer is not a true Labour supporter. Whether that’s true is up to you.
@@teletek1776 Starmer hates the left wing of the Labour party

Starmer is a shambles, kneels to those corporate demons who wish to defund the police yet changes colours when a police gets killed doing his job. The hypocrisy is unreal yet the BBC acclaims he’s “more popular” than Boris Johnson.
What a load of sod!
@@poundlandspeedwagonrequiem defunding the police isn't a corporate claim - it's a claim of the workers. Who do you think martyred those mentioned in the song?
@@markcangila1613 the Labour Party has always stood for ending police cuts, Floyd is not a member of the working class, he was a drug addict and a convicted criminal, Soros is the corporate demon who gave them billions to go riot and rampage on the street, every billion dollar corporation was used as a front to push this agenda forward and put the US nearer to martial law. So no, those martyrs were not killed by law enforcers, they were slain by the Upper Class’ private militia. Stop associating class with colour and leave the USA to fight amongst themselves. @@markcangila1613 the people’s voice is no longer heard, in fact it barely was. The elite control the press and manufacture the food on your table. Corbyn being booted off the party for something he never did, only show the political landscape is dictated by the papers and not the people.
