I wanna say this now while this can reach you. Your videos are genuinely so interesting and well made and you have a unique insight on how to play this game. I honestly think you will go far. I stumbled across your channel on a completely innocuous video where you were showing off a cool low level shield build but your editing and playstyle were a joy to watch. Please keep it up.

Man watching a good wizard is so fantastic. They really feel like they're launching off artillery or something. Its scary to see them shooting fast and a wizard duel is so great to watch. Being on the receiving end is scary af
hahah well... more to the story actually, there was a rat rogue in the Stone Graves module after that ranger fight. only saw them for a couple of frames, but they were looting some other body. didn't have a good vantage to include it in the video, so skipped it.. but that's why I didn't go full search & rescue. also, it was only green templar armor, so only a single tear was shed :) thanks for watching!

yeah totally luck of the draw, in terms of who you bump into in the dungeon. The plate fighter in number 5 tried to pull out his longsword, but I bonked him out before he could get the parry up haha

What's crazy, all they did was keep aiming chest/head while you block it. Sometimes you gotta aim for them leggies if you want to land hits. At the very least, it'll make the Fighter crouch block and you keep better spacing.
totally agree -- might be a symptom of many players not encountering a blocking-experience opponent, so they don't know how to mix up their shots and get around the shield, as you mentioned. thanks for the comment!
Can you give some insight on how good shields are without the fighters shield perks? I like using it on warlock with the kris dagger for pve. I like the pattern of blocking and quickly counter attacking with the dagger, but I feel like the better builds dont use shields at all. should I stay away from them if im not a fighter?(relativly new player here) also I really enjoy your content and you general attitude, keep it up!
thanks for the comment & hmm interesting question! I think a lot of the 'conventional wisdom' would say that shields without Fighter perks are not worth it.. since other classes have much more powerful build compositions and trying to use a base shield (with no perks) would shift your focus away from other/more effective ways to play those classes. I've got personal experience using a shield with Cleric and Barbarian -- in both cases, I find it very difficult to block & counter-attack in melee situations, since the counter-attack speed is just not there. This is especially noticeable vs the faster attacking weapons like daggers and rapiers, where my Barb just gets totally cut up if I try a block-first, counter-attack style that otherwise works great with my Fighter. beyond this, I see two exceptions: 1) is versus PvE as you mention, since even a basic shield with no perks (on Warlock, Cleric, Bard, Barb) can be used effectively against ranged mobs for more comfortable clearing -- definitely think there's some value and utility there.. and 2) is if you can learn to 'handle-block' PvP opponents, since the interruption to their attack might leave a big enough window for you to have a successful counter-attack (despite not having any Fighter perks). handle blocking is something I'm still new to myself and can be very powerful, so it might be worth exploring! hope this helps & happy weekend!!
you can do it with any rarity, even the Squire grey one.. but with the grey camp, you need to be quick with your timing & sit down as soon as the campfire becomes active.. you need all that time to recharge the skill!
healing is nice, and VS could be used effectively.. but there is just SO MUCH movement speed out there, even with the nerf I found I needed to to close the gap and keep up the pressure. choose your own adventure!!
Have u ever tried pdr cleric ? I think u would do really good same thing with mace and shield except u have magic damage and protection. I think u would like it
TBH the cleric was my base for multiclassing, but I needed Shield Mastery and Sprint from fighter to make it viable. otherwise cleric is just to slow and unresponsive for my tastes. feels like the extra magic damage from smite isn't useful if I can't catch anyone :)
@YourBoyBlinn ya with the new changes to gear u can actually get ur speed quite high now but i get it. I just thought u would like it because u don't seem to stalk people u wait in the shadows for them to come to u and pdr shines in that aspect. u want to face to face fight people with the shield and against really geared players it wont work it's really hard to survive without heavy pdr and cleric is just bettwr at it rn then fighter. Great content, I'm a cleric but your videos improved my game, I usually duo with a fighter, he doesn't speak english but I made him watch some of your videos, he improved too!! So as a fighter, what class do you think is the best duo for it?
It's not necessarily bad to do this to catch up to them, but it does place your unblocked waist and below closer to your center of gravity where most people aim at for poke damage, and they also lose a lot of ground to you whilst shooting/casting.
You bait him into single attacks and just avoid the combos. Other than baiting, you should be able to side strafe away from him faster than he can lunge.
I thought I saw that too! I remember hearing extra bow strings letting loose. He probably went up the stairs and either got caught by the goblin or the skeleton in the cage aimbotted the wizard
I've been playing like exclusively slayer fighter and been really frustrated with it. It's been my class since PT3. I got fed up running into shield fighters that kept countering me so I swapped to a shield for a few games last night. Instantly felt like I had so much more control. Kinda frustrating, but I'm also excited to learn how to use the shield better.

I used to main Slayer, from like Aug-December last year.. was OK but I couldn't rely on ducking/dodging to reliably keep me alive. then I realized the shield could be viable and have been practicing all of 2024. can't say enough good things about it, since it has an answer for literally every class/loadout in the game. keep me posted on your progress buddy!
@@mariuzmadden8552 so crossbow does big damage but shoots slow id say better for long range. where as the survival bow shoots fast but lower damage i like using it upclose

I watched content of dark and darker for 2years before even touching this game, damn you teached me in 2days and 7 Videos i watched so much about the game, and wich stat is doing what, love you and your assasine-playstyle i crawled with my fighter to lvl 80 and now im playing all others roles cause I was so frustrated because i ddnt know what the shield in this game really can or cant do. I play quiter slower and survived nearly 80 %of my sneaking into 3man lobbys as soloassasine-rat runs thx for teaching me Master, i scored my 1st pvp-kill!

I got to silently laugh at one earlier today. After exiting the dungeon was spectating people as they left, it got to the last guy left in the dungeon and he was a ranger setting up traps around the portal stone and sitting still in the dark camping. he camped until the last possible minute and didn't know no one was coming into his cheap trick. It was glorious
@@TreborLightning i think for the most part, those skills do translate? things like managing line of sight, flick accuracy, calculating projectile drop, etc etc.. respect for people who bring ranged skills to DaD, just not my preferred primary style of playing, melee is too much fun!
yes! the mace gives me more armor pen which is better than using an arming sword vs plate. also with high dexterity, the mace can swing pretty fast (especially after a successful block) so the damage output is quite high!!
yeah @somedude8728 got it right: I sometimes like to switch to my buckler for more movement speed in the chase but still having a shield to block an attack (better than running with no shield IMO). the arming sword I carry for fights against cloth armor, because it swings very fast, but I'm starting to move away from that as well now that the flanged mace swings so quickly (especially with high dex)!
Brother you can loot so much better. I get you don’t want to be greedy, but you have time especially on the outside parts of the map. But your skills with the shield are great
i know i know, just so much adrenaline post-fight.. its cringe to post a crappy loot job bc everyone on YT can pick at it -- but my hands were shaking and I was only just recovering from tunnel vision.. my looting skills will improve as I get more calm in high-roller fights :)

I’m sorry cool video but you using a Templar armor on a fighter makes me want to ripe my hair out - please just use the fine curas or dark plate ( you will get way more mr with dark plate)

What lvl camp do you need to get second wind back with just one?

On the champion skele I know he does like a slash slash lunge combo whats the easiest way to dodge the slashes?

which one is better survival bow or crossbow?
both serve different purposes, as if asking what is better zweihander or rondel dagger

I watched content of dark and darker for 2years before even touching this game, damn you teached me in 2days and 7 Videos i watched so much about the game, and wich stat is doing what, love you and your assasine-playstyle i crawled with my fighter to lvl 80 and now im playing all others roles cause I was so frustrated because i ddnt know what the shield in this game really can or cant do. I play quiter slower and survived nearly 80 %of my sneaking into 3man lobbys as soloassasine-rat runs thx for teaching me Master, i scored my 1st pvp-kill!

I got to silently laugh at one earlier today. After exiting the dungeon was spectating people as they left, it got to the last guy left in the dungeon and he was a ranger setting up traps around the portal stone and sitting still in the dark camping. he camped until the last possible minute and didn't know no one was coming into his cheap trick. It was glorious

i think its because its closet to FPS style gameplay so they think there skills will translate
@@TreborLightning i think for the most part, those skills do translate? things like managing line of sight, flick accuracy, calculating projectile drop, etc etc.. respect for people who bring ranged skills to DaD, just not my preferred primary style of playing, melee is too much fun!

I'm a fighter just recently pushing to learn pvp and your videos are a big help. Is there a reason you choose to use a mace instead of a sword?
yes! the mace gives me more armor pen which is better than using an arming sword vs plate. also with high dexterity, the mace can swing pretty fast (especially after a successful block) so the damage output is quite high!!

Why did you bring a buckler and extra arming sword?
sometimes as shield fighter you wanna swap to buckler for the movement speed while keeping all of the perk bonuses
yeah @somedude8728 got it right: I sometimes like to switch to my buckler for more movement speed in the chase but still having a shield to block an attack (better than running with no shield IMO). the arming sword I carry for fights against cloth armor, because it swings very fast, but I'm starting to move away from that as well now that the flanged mace swings so quickly (especially with high dex)!

Dont you need lvl20 for highroller tho or nvm you're leveling up first.

Brother you can loot so much better. I get you don’t want to be greedy, but you have time especially on the outside parts of the map. But your skills with the shield are great
i know i know, just so much adrenaline post-fight.. its cringe to post a crappy loot job bc everyone on YT can pick at it -- but my hands were shaking and I was only just recovering from tunnel vision.. my looting skills will improve as I get more calm in high-roller fights :)

I’m sorry cool video but you using a Templar armor on a fighter makes me want to ripe my hair out - please just use the fine curas or dark plate ( you will get way more mr with dark plate)
I totally hear you, but wanted to show you can use kindof random gear and don't have to have the most optimized stats to get shield-based kills in HR :)

HR is the Cheater Lobby. One does not go there for a challenge, but to dominate inferior players unknown to the ways of Chivalry.
#1 find places you can be unlootable
#2 drag out the fight as long as possible
#3 aggro everything
#4 trap, camp, and smash exits
#5 injure to feint weakness
