When I am at the supermarket I round up and down for example if something is $1.65 I round to $2 if something is 1.35 I round to $1 and as I get things off the shelf in my cart I keep track and I stop $10 below budget for a buffer. This keeps me on track.

Additionally, for those of us who use the calculators. If you have a list anyway. Go ahead and jot down the amount on that paper. So if your calculator does clear, you can say "hey, when I picked up the canned food I was at 22.56" and go from there. I enjoy your videos, thanks

Exactly Or your phone comes with a memo pad, leave it saved for next time you grocery shopping... and you can also see if an item has gone up or down.

  • @AmberRandallArt

I just do food shopping online. That way I can see the price of everything and take things out of my cart that I know we don’t really need. This helps me too buy things I know we will eat and stick to my $100 per 2 weeks limit. I can go grocery shopping while I’m actively looking at my pantry to know what we do and don’t need. I only go grocery shopping when I get paid so one week we eat fresh foods and the next week we eat a lot of smoothies and cook from the frozen stash. This has been the most helpful to me. I only go in the store for quick grab things that I just happen to need and even then, I’ll order it if I can wait a few days to have it.

  • @mrandisg
    @mrandisg 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

I really like the clicker idea. I have ADHD and anxiety, so shopping is often a nightmare for me. If I write a list, I'll forget it, or even if I bring it or have it on my phone, I'll forget to look at it. If I accidentally clear the calculator, I'm so frustrated I just say "screw it" and head to the checkout...or throw a few more things in the cart before I do. 🙄
I also like the meal prep idea, but that's something I will have to work toward. Got a lot of other habits in the way that'll need to change before I could handle that level of organization. Plus I'm not that great at cooking. lol

    • @KristinStones

Great tips & videos ! Being Canadian , I really like the idea of swapping devices amongst friends & families because we are charged GST on ALL goods & services in our country . This 5 % tax is added to every restaurant meal & every single product & service we purchase - which is addition to whatever our Provincial sales tax is which in our particular Province is 8 % so you see how that 13 % can really add up & then as you say if it is a service you would be tipping on top of that ... well , it really adds up ! Thank you for your tips & a Happy New Year To you and yours !!!😊❤️😊

That clicker is such an interesting idea. I always write out the price of the grocery items in a small notebook when I go shopping and then I calculate everything lol. When I make my list to go shopping, I use that same list and write the price of how much the item is next to it.

My meals plans do work. But sometimes I am short need more ingredients to finish the meals.
That is Then when I need to spend more money at my local supermarket. But I am getting better budgeting with groceries for the month.
Another problem is treating myself to snacks or getting a carry out during sports on T.V. on Mondays with Wrestling shows..
it seems I need help...it is costing me $40..to $50.00 dollars monthly. (EXTRA) and cannot afford it...with the annual cost.
    But I working at it...
Thank you for those great tips.

Yes, takeout adds up so quickly! Can you buy the "takeout" food at the store and prepare it yourself? For ex: if you like to order wings when you watch wrestling can you instead buy a huge bag at the store and prepare your fav flavors at home? May not be quite the same but will save money?

Here in the UK, we have scan and go shopping in the supermarket. You have these scanners to scan your shopping and it shows you the total at the end 😊 by using this, you can keep an eye on how much you have spent as well as bagging your groceries as you go. Then go to a special self service till at the end and pay that way. Super easy. I love it as it really allows me to see how much I have spent and how much I have left on our budget. And if for some reason we are over then the scanner has the option to return items too 😁

Here’s a couple tips when you’re cooking if you have a recipe that calls for a cup of milk instead of using all of your regular whole milk, half milk, 2% get not the evaporated but the regular canned milk in your baking section use equal parts per your recipe say your recipe calls for a whole cup of milk use a half a cup of evaporated canned milk and then a half a cup of water. Mix well and use that for your recipe it’s going to last longer and taste better, it was some thing that my mother always did. She would do that to help save on the milk that you would use for cereal and drinking and that sort.

I'm thinking that my issue is the meal planning. I have a lot of meat etc. in the freezer that I'm not using.

Use it up! Take inventory of what you have then plan your meals around it!

My problem is shopping at Dollartree. I always over spend there. Even if I'm only buying necessities, maybe I'll find a new item and buy 3 so that I'll have multiples of the bargain item. I probably spend over 100 a month there. I try ti limit my trip there to once every other week. Any hope for me?

Sure, just add an extra category in your budget for Dollar Tree. Whatever you allocate for yourself to some go there with that amount of cash ONLY. Spend what you’ve budgeted without feeling badly about it and don’t return there until you’re able to budget more money for it!

Anonymous if it’s a financial danger zone, don’t go in there.

I cut a lot from my budget, so I love the idea of even $10 of fun money a month.
Previously tried cutting out a lot and didn’t add any fun money, and ended up overspending again.

Yes, even just $10 can make a difference!
