Same!!! And I have to thank you as you give a totally different perspective / angle to these videos. Never thought we could have this inside view on real contemporary excavations. Alongside History with CY, you are the BEST!!! ❤
Love these videos. Been diving into ancient histories as a passtime, and frankly, I've found archeology videos on these sites to be the more informative. (and less prone to conspiracy...)
I love that we’re finally going back to the lower Mesopotamian sites with modern methods and tools. Sure Woolley was actually pretty competent compared to his peers but still
Thank you for your amazing videos! They are the most in depth, and rigorously academic videos about ancient mesopotamia on youtube. I have always wanted to go visit these sites in person. Would you reccomend for a tourist to go there by themselves or is the situation still unsafe to go without organized guidance? Would it ever be possible to join your team as a volunteer in the next season?
It is possible to go as a tourist to Iraq now. They have changed the laws so you can get a visa in the airport and infrastructure is getting better. There are still some dangers, though, and it's best to go as a group with organized guidance since it can still be difficult to navigate, and traveling between places is difficult because there are many checkpoints at which you need paperwork. There are digs in other countries that accept volunteers but we are not able to do that, at least not in the foreseeable future. I'm still not even allowed to take undergraduates, only graduate students and specialists. As the infrastructure continues to increase and more people see Iraq as safe, those regulations may change.
Yes, it's a school decision for now; most undergraduate parents would not be happy to see their kids go to Iraq so it is a perception issue for the most part. Of course there are some dangers and we must be careful in general, so I don't blame them for erring on the side of caution.
Aritfactually Speaking, as a laymen I have always been interested in Archeology. Ater I read a book 'Gods And Men' by Henry Bamford Parkes I have follow archaeology through magazines. I appreciate your devotion to the science.
I found your channel from miniminuteman and I have been loving your content! Learning from you has been a pleasure!

@@artifactuallyspeaking is the limit on undergraduates a legal one or an IRB one? I suppose the latter since it’s due to perceptions of safety
