What a great mind. His and Sagan's genius was on their ability to explain complicated things in a way anyone can understand. If you listen with honesty, you can only agree what they say is irrefutable and said totally without ego.

Completely agree. Most people will never be as rational as the few of us, like Asimov, who are. It is ultimately a hopeless thing to desire. Human psychology is flawed.

Agreed. Our flaws will prove to be our undoing. Its been said ‘Extinction is part of the natural order.’

7:15 - CHAZERAI: Food that is awful; junk, trash; anything disgusting, even loathsome (Yiddish כאַזער, from Heb.חזיר "khazir," pig).
Eg- "Ben, before going to sleep, could you please clean up all that chazerai?"

"I got 11 Kilohertz tinnitus. The world's got nothing to do with me. (19-10-2021). A beep till death, nobody will miss me, when I'm gone... that's for sure. What a waste of time it's been 4 me. Science = math. Math = numbers. Numbers aren't words. Numbers are soundless, visual ques about reality. I see number everywhere, people their well-being, is also a number that fluctuates".

I'm sorry about your health problem and i know that the human condition takes a toll on everybody. It really is hard being a self-conscious entity locked in a meat shell with an expiration date thrown into a vast indifferent universe...but on the other hand, it is an experience like no other, and its uniquely yours for good or bad.i want to recommend you two books which helped me a lot with my personal struggles 1. Tao Te Ching by Laozi an 2. Meditations by Marcus Aurelius.i hope things get better for you!

@@NuclearErrorBG thank you for your attention and attempt to make me feel less alone. Thank you also for acknowledging I have struggles. The books you mentioned are probably not going to teach me anything I don't already know. Somehow, we tend to experience similar things, if the circumstances are similar as well. I stay away from stoics, because I don't like to educate people, while experiencing agony (depression or worse...suicidal ideation). My life is a beep that already has been going on for me, for about 17+ years. I only get scared, when everybody is asleep and I think about the future. Thx for the tips anyway 👍

It can, prohibitively difficult at this point in time, but I can still see hope.
People are not stupid, they are being lied to.. so the first step would be to show them exactly that, the lies from behind the curtain.

Rationality is important but it does not ground morality. Reason is a tool/instrument to achieve your good or evil goals. Reason can help you kill or save but reason cannot prove saving is better than killing (Hume). 2) Yes, mumbo jumbo is not a good alternative to modern medicine, but those aren't the only two alternatives. 3) Science is simply the process of observing, hypothesizing, and testing and is very powerful for improving the well-being of humans... or creating bombs/pathogens to destroy them. Science is not magic and will not necessarily make the world better though it has and could. 4) His understanding of Folk Tales seems shallow too(see Jung). 5) As for climate change, science should be used to find solutions and not just identify the problem. The solutions are politicized and climate change creates hundreds of problems, and the answer to one problem may counter the answer to another. 6) Science is a type of rationality, not identical to it. And so the conversation continues...

"Reason can help you kill or save but reason cannot prove saving is better than killing (Hume)."
Yes it can, for an extreme example it was better for the owner to save his slave than to let him or her die for many reasons.
      Pun inteded. :P
You can reach "helping" conclusions with pure logic as well, math, entropy for example.
Smart animals do not kill humans, in fact they try to befriend us, not even Kevin Hines' story, but I've seen one sea lion trying to teach a human diver how to hunt.
"Science is a type of rationality, not identical to it."
      Not by a loooong shot.
In theological writing, "reason, rationale," from Latin ratio "a reckoning, account, a numbering, calculation".
Latin ratio often was used to represent or translate Greek logos ("computation, account, esteem, reason") in works of philosophy.
All of science IS reason, not all reason is science.
I know not of any tool that can provide accurate knowledge other than science.
Ad 4. He seems to understand Folk Tales way more than an average sheep, he suggest something very, very important here.. and as usual noone notices. I'd say that's the most important thing he said here.
Ad 5. All of it is bullshit upon bullshit nowadays. Read the Report from the Iron Mountain if you wanna know why.
"The solutions are politicized and climate change creates hundreds of problems.."
      Exactly!
"In politics nothing happens by accident and if it does that's only because it was planned that way." - FDR
      Cui bono?!!
