the fact Keanu gave up his quoted salary to get Hackman in the film is really something, this was just after he gave away his Matrix bonuses to the stunt people as well as gifts as motorcycles/watches to everyone on set. I love this film, it never gets the recognition it deserves. The sarcasm in the film is fantastic.

I've never seen Gene turn in a bad performance. I've seen him appear in movies that could be hit or miss, but the man elevates every role he's in. Originally, when they were casting The Fugitive, they considered him for Sam Gerard while they were still ironing out the cast. They were looking at the likes of Kevin Costner and Alec Baldwin as Dr. Richard Kimble. I think they made the right choice with Kimble, hands down, and I wouldn't recast Tommy Lee Jones, because he really owned that role, but I can't help but feel I wish I could see Gene Hackman's take on Sam Gerard. He certainly would have been more menacing. Hackman could bring out and intimidating with a wink and a smile.

"Is that a real announcer guy?" Yes. That was the late John Madden. He was a former coach turned announcer. He did fewer games per year than others as he didn't fly and instead took an RV from game to game. He's also been a cash cow for EA Sports for the Madden Football video game franchise. Another Keanu movie going back is Point Break where he plays a surfer chasing FBI agent. Even further back he had an excellent adventure with Bill S. Preston Esquire in Bill and Teds Excellent adventure.

I like that you liked the conventionality of the film. Your reaction was really cute and fun. The Replacements is one of my favorite sports movies for all the reasons you liked it. You were asking if anyone form the team would get signed after the strike ended. The answer is no. Remember that the striking player are part of a Union. One of the agreements to them coming back is usually that no replacement players be signed because they wouldn't be accepted. That actually happened in 1987. The only players who were welcomed back were the Pro players who chose not to go on strike and played anyway. GREAT REACTION!

Thank you so much for this reaction. This is one of my top 4 movies of all time. My only regret was I could never watch for a first time again. But you just gave me that. Watching your reaction was just like watching it all over again. This movie is awesome. It truly does have everything. I think it's a very underrate movie. Gene Hackman may be one of the best actors of all time. Jack Warden who played the owner was in so many movies and TV show including the original 12 Angry Men with Henry Fonda. And Keanu Reeves and many others in this cast are very good. ANd yes tat was the real John Madden and Pat Summerall who did games together for decades.
Not sure if anyone else said it but this is loosely based on the Washington (redskins at the time) during the strike shortened season. In 1987 the players walked out and the owners locked them out. They cancelled week 3 and used replacement players for weeks 4 5 and 6. Joe Gibbs and Bobby Beathard had put together a list of players they wanted in case that happened. They assembled the team and won all three replacement games including the last one against dallas who had almost the entire team cross the picket line. So the replacements did play mostly starters and won 13-7. They ended the season 11-4 and won the Super Bowl with Doug Williams, the first black QB to start in a SB. The real story is as compelling as the movie one.

Excellent actor. His early career was mostly in TV. He hit it big in movies with Bonnie and Clyde (1967), and then with The French Connection. Other outstanding roles are The Poseidon Adventure, Uncommon Valor (with Patrick Swayze), as Lex Luthor in the Christopher Reeve Superman movies, Hoosiers, No Way Out (with Kevin Costner), Bat*21, The Firm (with Tom Cruise), Crimson Tide (with Denzel Washington), and Absolute Power (where he's the President of the United States and is again pitted against Clint Eastwood).

    "What does read blitz mean?"
Blitz is when the defenders rush the QB to try to sack him or make him rush his throw. A quick outlet pass to a RB can be effective against the blitz. Falco said he "read blitz" so he didn't do the play that Gene Hackman had called, but tossed it to a runner.

    • @royw-g3120
      @royw-g3120 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

To be super specific a blitz is when a defensive back rushes the QB rather than going into coverage. It has gone a bit out of fashion as it is very risky for the defense. In the 00s Ronde Barber and Darren Woodsen excelled at disguising their intent and got a few sacks every year.

I love this movie sooooo much. It's one of my "warm blanket & chicken soup" feel-good movies. Whenever this comes on, I can't turn the channel...doesn't matter that I could go grab it off my shelves as VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray, or from my streaming library at anytime...I won't turn that channel. My other movie like this is Tom Hanks' "That Thing You Do!" PLEASE do a reaction of "That Thing You Do!" =)

If you like this one you should also give “Necessary Roughness” a watch. Similar football movie but at the college level.

I was just thinking the same thing. They had to use students from the university. Quite a few that aren’t exactly jocks.
With Scott Bakula, Sinbad, Kathy Ireland, Robert Loggia, Hector Elizondo.

Love that you've seen We Are Marshall... I moved to Huntington in 1990 and started working at Marshall in 1997. Still work there. Watched the movie being made. You cannot imagine the impact that film had on this town. It was like permission was finally given to deal with the trauma out in the open. And trust me, there was/is so much trauma, even now. It's not the best movie ever made but in my book it's one of the most important ever made.

As an Oklahoma State fan, I know exactly what that's like. We lost 10 staff/players from the men's basketball program in 2001, and 4 coaches/donors from the women's basketball team in 2011. Those plane crashes may have happened a decade(s) ago, but in a tight-knit community, you run into their widows around town, their children, their parents. You meet people who knew them and tell stories about them like they just hung out with them the previous week. You see tributes to them to keep their memories alive. The saying, "Time heals all wounds," is accurate to a degree. As time has passed, people focus much more on the happy memories and celebrate their lives more than they mourn their deaths. But at the same time, you can still feel how much they wish they were still here with them. No amount of time will ever change that.

Gene Hackman is a great actor. I love the way Keanu carries a film, too. And this movie did a great job of combining humor and meaningfulness. Great great fun, unexpectedly great movie.

This is loosely based on the player strike that happened in the 80s, and the Washington DC team did do fairly well with the scab players.

    Love watching your videos.
    1. Blitz is when multiple players from the opposite team are going to rush the QB. Falco read blitz and had to rid of the ball asap.
    2. The commentator is John Madden, the same guy from the John Madden Football video games.
    3. If you like stories similar to Falco, look up QB Kurt Warner. Went from bagging groceries to winning a SB ring.
