When the previous owner told you it was his "fishing vehicle" you assumed he drove to the fishing spot. In reality he parked the Aztek IN the river and fished out of it.
I use to driver rural mail (in my own car) and it was impossible to get all the gravel dust out of the car. You really do like this Aztek, this is the like a crazy amount of work.
Hard to believe the former owner treated the Aztec so badly. This sand was so preventable with proper maintenance. On the plus side, the Aztec blue color is beautiful. I have enjoyed this series of videos.
I have never seen a car so filled with dirt. I must have been driven with the windows down on dirt roads and never been cleaned. Crazy amount of fine dirt. Great job getting it cleaned out!
Number one, you are supposed to use a milk crate or bucket to sit on instead of balancing on one foot. Number 2, start with a brush and then use a vacuum instead of a leaf blower. . .
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Back in my school days I had a job at a bus garage cleaning seats. Basically whacked the seats with a huge monkey wrench and then vacuumed the dust out. The amount of dust that came out was astonishing. I had to repeat the process several times for each seat.
Some easy performance tips for these engines: clean throttlebody, clean MAF, clean EGR valve & tube. Vaccumm leaks are common so do a smoke test. If you see ABS/TC issues, the front hub cables get frayed; the junction box under the driver's seat is notorious for water ingress and the rear diff sensor can fail but that is just a $100 part.
I am really enjoying these Aztek videos. I think it is cool to see you give it a second lease on life. I know it has been A LOT of work and time, but it looks really good. Can hardly wait to see the final result. And when it is over, someone is going to get a great vehicle.
It is nice to see someone save a base model Aztek, mostly the GT, the Rally and high optioned cars are saved or restored. Yours has a nice dash other than the glovebox door which shouldn't be hard to replace.
I wasn’t a big fan of the Aztek before but this has got them to grow on me, especially the later ones with the body coloured bumpers and that blue is amazing. I know it took a long time but wow you did an amazing job, definitely a modern classic and worth preserving now
I might have said this before…..i really enjoy these videos of finding broken cars and returning them to good working condition. Education recycling and entertaining too.
JR, I haven't checked in a while, but there used to be an Aztec specific Eaton supercharger on eBay all the time that had the blower integrated into the intake manifold. It was too tall for other vehicle platforms with the 3400, but it was listed for years and might still be available.
The reason The Caribbean's air has been full of sand and dust was not the Sahara Dessert. It was JR blowing dirt out of the Aztek and it got all the way here. 😂
In hindsight I kind of wish he had weighed the car before he started working on it and then weighed it after finally finishing it to see what the difference would be.
When Josh hit hard and closed the glovebox, with the dust cloud that happened, wonder how much dirt is under the dash pad and other interior prices not removed 🤔. Doing a great job, should smell better when done for sure! 👍👍
Absolutely unbelievable !! What do the frame rails underneath look like? I wonder how many pounds of dirt are hidden down there. Should have done a before and after weigh in to see the difference. You and Josh are HARD workers for sure! 😁💪‼‼
I would have wiped it down to dislodge the stuck on dirt and blow it out the back. It seems like a waste of time to blow the loose dirt without addressing the stuck on stuff.
The Aztek is my favorite series this year. Keep them coming! Nice work on it all. Yes it may seem like it's not worth it, but you have given a new life to it and someone who would care for it should be the next owner. That car is a survivor.
I have cleaned out alot of muddy or moldy copart flood cars that were just absolutely trashed and I have to say that Aztec makes all of them look like a walk in the park in comparison, mad props actually getting it done n clean. I'm still partially speechless that a car could get that bad... Just wow
Honestly, with that deep of a clean and how much work you put into it the price you sell if for is only going to go up. If I had video evidence on how clean and put together a used vehicle would be on delivery I wouldn't mind a premium mark up on it.
The concept car was really great looking but the production version had lots of last minute cookie cutting which is pretty common at GM It’s still an interesting vehicle though.

I worked at a coal fired power plant one summer. One hot evening I had left my car windows cracked during the shift. The entire car interior was covered in fine coal dust. Good thing the seats were vinyl.
JR and Josh were making some pretty funny faces while blowing out the Aztec! I was doing the same faces just watching dust fly on the vlog. I guess this is why he's putting a shower in the warehouse.
Nicely done! Nothing like a good portion of elbow grease to get things clean. Any chance you'll be giving the plastics a hit of Plexus or similar product?

When it takes more time to blow out the dirt than replace entire transmission. It’s time to count the hours invested. Then do a sanity check. LoL. Congratulations.
My next door neighbor had one of these awful Azteks. It was a lemon. Clogged its catalytic converter, ate its garbage Chinesium wheel bearings, and finally its fragile transmission in the course of a few short months. He finally made the dealer take it back. He replaced it with a mid 2000s Silverado that has never given him a lick of trouble

Have you ever thought of buying a dry ice blaster to clean with? Cold Jet new around $18,000 . Will clean about anything! And fast ! Also - melts away and nothing to pick up!
Suction (vacuum), ALWAYS suction
Blowing only relocates the dirt elsewhere around the car.
This is "How NOT to clean a car"

Kansas dirt roads. That tan dirt and silt gets into everything.

I have found that to be quite an effective method.
For cloth seats I just hit em with something big and heavy like an adjustable wrench, and then vacuum them.
I grew up on a farm in Nebraska. I have seen some dirty vehicles. But that thing takes the cake.
Are they blowing the dirt “off” the seats or they driving it further into the seats?
