Yes, it is amazing how they do it. We had a Honda Pilot that got 17mpg and our 2016 MDX had 18mpg as well. On average for this vehicle over almost 20k miles, it says 16.9mpg.

the design is very elegant which i find pleasing. simple and (for me) almost german in design. i don\t see an oven or grill did i miss that or is there just a microwave? the conversion into a bed is so well thought out but i also wonder whether the bed itself is that comfortable as there would appear to be many hard edges. how do you experience it? very enjoyable presentation both in terms of running us thru and the filming. great job guys.

Very beautiful! I like this lay out with the sofa bed vs an elevated bed. I wonder how it's like cooking inside a small space? I wish airstream put the cooktop where the sink is.

Love the Airstreams finish! Nice walk through. Love everything except the power system I find underwhelmimg. Ie. Still pretty low inverter and only 200aH lithium system.
@@vincentesqeven our Thor Tellaro 20AT has 800aH lithium batteries 3000W inverter totally deleting the generator. We can run AC for 10hrs. It's a poor man's Airstream (Thor owns Airstream) but can do 100% what the AI19 can do minus the luxury. We're fair weather campers (not full timers) so this works for us for now. We went for value and function and availability. May upgrade to the Airstream AI (better power specs), Embassy RV or custom build (Advance RV) later on so we'll see.

Hi Paul, I grew up in San Jose, and still. travel there to work every couple of weeks. There is an Airstream Dealer in Morgan Hill, past Cochrane Rd, by hwy 101. However, CA dealers do not negotiate prices much.
It is a Diesel. 6 cylinder and 188hp with 325lb torque. I think it is barely strong enough. It would be nice to have another 50hp. The Sprinter that Air Stream buy is fully loaded from Mercedes, which comes out to betweeen 75k-85k already. Airstream charges around $190k-200k for the whole package, so they basically add another $100k for the conversion.
Vincent, I have seen you had a previous van based on the Promaster. Do you have any feedback regarding Mercedes Sprinter-based B Van vs the Promaster or the Ford Transit? As much as I like Airstream; I wish they would utilize more current tech, Truma Combi, 12v AC, much better power offering of lithium options with Automotive grade (Volta) or Lithionics (UL listed) and the really low 1kW inverter.
Hi John, I totally agree with you that Airstream is behind in the use of more current tech. My wife's channel will discuss our wish list, which in nutshell are what you just mentioned. 400-800amp lithium; 2000-3000 watt inverter (we can't even make coffee with our current 1000w inverter!), etc...as to chassis, I have to say that I prefer the Mercedes much more than the Promaster. I have never owned a diesel before, and now I am sold on it. That alone would be my main reason for going with the Sprinter, knowing what I know now, imho. Everything about the Sprinter is better made than the Promaster. This is coming from me who years ago, had swore never to own a mercedes again because of reliablity issues. Of course, the Sprinter maintenance cost will eventually be more expensive than the Promaster, but it helps that I am pretty knowledgeable with car and can do a lot of the repairs myself. Having said that, I will be buying an extended warranty for the mercedes because it has so much high tech items vs. the promaster, which is much more simplistic. I would say, if you want luxury and the feel of a lexus or mercedes in a Van, go with Sprinter. If you want practicality, then nothing beats a Promaster or Transit. I am sorry, I do not know much about the Transit. Thank you for watching, John.

Advance RV is the ultimate RV conversion, in my opinion. They do have a waiting list, so maybe you can begin the process because I hear it is at least 1.5-2 years until completion. It is more expensive, but if I could afford it, I think I would go that way, since we only live once, and these Sprinters last a couple hundred thousand miles!
@@vincentesq You are correct on the waitlist. I also have some reservations regarding service work after purchase as well, but that same issue will be involved with any of the more custom builders. Just trying to limit the compromises in the design and features that invariably have to be made selecting an RV. The other option is to like yourself buy an existing design and begin modifying to upgrade some of the features either missing or lacking; more lithium and the 1K inverter come to mind. I agree on the Sprinter durability and Advanced clearly does as they will not build on the Promaster for example.
Seems to be a solidly built leisure RV but I'm sure one is looking at $220K to have this beauty on the road. Taxes, destination fees, DMV etc etc, oh one kidney too 😂.

Airstream builds decent camper vans, but they are way overpriced for what you get and a lot of the technology they still use is way behind the times. There are many custom van builders out there that are putting the OEM brands to shame when it comes to build quality, technology and features. I plan to buy a camper van when I retire and I will go with a custom builder.
That's a very good point there, D LG. One example is when I want to do something, there is no remote control. I have to actually walk over to the controller. It's the 21st century, and we can control everything via our phone, or even our voice...not in the RV.

@@vincentesq ARV is not the norm. Their vans are on an entirely different level than Airstream or anyone else in the industry. They are the absolute best and their prices reflect that. There are many custom builders that can beat Airstream prices, but if you want the very best craftsmanship available and can afford the price, ARV is the only way to go. I am saving up to purchase a van from them when I retire.
