    Great video on the 944 clutches! I have a 1990 S2 I am sure this is coming to my baby soon .... And now I know what to look for and feel for. Keep up the solid work in 944 stuff
    My shop charges $165 and here in Alameda Ca..... To me it's worth it for the joy it brings

    Nice work, it’s looking sharp. I too went through the oh eff moment when my clutch went go. I have an ‘83 I have owned for 25 years and an ‘86 as well. The first year I had the ‘83 the clutch went, boom over 3k. Year two an oil leak caused the timing belt to slip and wreck the head. Another 2.5k. This was pre internet so I was pretty ignorant to the whole thing but that was painful. It was my primary car for awhile and lived in Crested Butte, CO and had an absolute blast driving it in the winter and on road trips in the west. As long as the snow wasn’t too deep it did fine. But yeah these are great cars and a good blend of near Miata fun plus more practical, plus the Teutonic build quality that German cars from the 80’s had. It’s this odd blend of it feeling heavy and well built yet light and agile on its feet. I really love these things. My neighbor gave me the ‘86 and it’s pretty solid minus some body dings from sitting in storage for 20 years. Was looking for a parts car but it’s way too nice. Really dig the updated interior. Anyway, keep it up and yeah, do yourself a favor and do a cross country trip in it. Great road trip car. 👌

    You said it yourself, "it's a 33 year old car $hit happens". If you keep that attitude as a true car owner enthusiast must, you will stay happy and excited driving your 944 or what ever vehicle you choose to drive. Keeping older sports cars on the road requires cash and devotion.
    My '88 944 clutch was replaced by the previous owner thank goodness.

    Lol yup it took me 2 years with it up on cinder blocks in my garage! Works great now...just took a long time to do it myself. You have to take out everything!

    Greetings....I also own an 84 944 and am in Va. I have antique tags as you do, and Im sure you know that antique vehicles do not require state inspections. Clutch.......hoping mine will last many more years.

    So did you manage to ‘just drive this thing’ this past summer? Going to get winter tires and use it year round?
    I am curious to see how it is as a highway cruiser so yeah, drive it to Utah or something. :)

    I want to 944 for my senior year of hs is this a good car to start with as long as it’s a decently well taken care of example?

    • @MotorMindsProductions
      @MotorMindsProductions  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes and no. Prepare to shell out a decent chunk of change for a well taken care of example, probably 7-10k or more with really nice ones going for over 15k. These cars are going up in value so snag one now and ride the wave! Even a well taken care of example will run the risk of having issues because these cars are 30+ years old. You will have to replace the timing belt sooner than later and if you don't DIY it expect a bill for $1500 or more, clutch is $3k or more, and you'll have your fair share of little projects I'm sure. It's a super fun car and I love mine but don't buy one expecting it to work flawlessly out of the box, you'll need to get your hands dirty at some point!

      Exactly, this is a beautiful car, I love the interior and exterior. 1st thing I did was fixed the odometer gear, now slowly will start replacing mechanical parts here and there..
