He is a senator and he won the belt for having the most absences among the "public servants" in the Senate. He got a quick online college "equivalency" degree while boxing and being a senator as well.
Senator Manny Pacquiao has sent three family members into the political ring: his brothers Rogelio and Alberto to Congress (the lower house), and cousin Zyrex to a mayorship.
Even Pacquiao’s trainer "Buboy" (Restituto) Fernandez won a position as vice-mayor.
None are qualified.
Why are political dynasties so pervasive in the Philippines?

But if you are from the Philippines, you know that is what ALL TRAPOs do. That money will be gone the next day. They are just buying support. That is or should be illegal.

What the country needs is a hero. A martyr who is willing to die and more importantly willing to become poor for the sake of the country, who is at the same time competent and strong. A person who on his/her inauguration as president swears that he would rather die a violent death than give in to the corruption. A person who declares that HE AND HIS FAMILY will be poorer at the end of his term than he was before he became president.
A person who by example, will lead Filipinos to sacrifice their own benefit for the sake of the country. Filipinos can but need a leader who inspires them to do the right thing. I haven't see anyone who fits that criteria unfortunately.

Boxing is a business, it generates income, hire employees, pay taxes in other words it is a business under the sports and games industry. Manny is right but the way Drillon asked is an intimidation and the coaching staff on Manny’s side was not alert. They do not need to hide, they have to show the viewers that they were there to coach, and Manny should not act as if the answers came from his own.
every pro sport does that. does it mean we need a pro basketball commission? pro football commission? pro volleyball commission? Pacquiao is wrong because pro boxing doesn't need a separate commission from the GAB that would just add to more bureaucracy, especially since his initial budget won't even help athletes but are just for putting up regional office buildings. total waste ~

Most politicians have armies of advisers in the background, especially those who have very limited knowledge of the law. Maybe some of his advisers want to have a seat in the government, so they have to create one for themselves. They know Manny love boxing, so it is the perfect way for them to create an entity dedicated for the game of boxing. Obviously Manny is not the one who initiated the bill. Pacquiao have the guts to speak of "common sense", which he always say, because that is how he thinks. He thinks like a common person. He forgot that he is not a common person anymore and he needs to be critical at times. Drilon in the other hand want to save the additional fund that the additional seat would require. I think what is needed is to have someone who is not driven by personal interest in the GAB that would be focus on Boxing and same way for each sport, and need not create an entire new Board or Committee. Our System of Government is fine, we only need the right person to occupy each position.
