My views: Sirena is probably the best shot for Malta if we are not going to go down the 'taking the piss' route - in which case that would be Banana. Banana however does run the risk of being accused of being a mish mash of many eccentric/joke entries - Subwoofer, Katarina, Little Big etc... Sirena can be amazing with a revamp (both lyrically and instrumentally but don't touch that haunting Maltese language chorus!). It's the type of ethnic song Eurovision viewers would lap up - like Pasha Parfeni's Soarele Si Luna last year. I have to say - Topic is my guilty pleasure, I can't get enough of it. It's experimental and self indulgent at the same time. Vocally it's not the best but it's a drag show in a 3 minute song. Also not sure about the appeal of drag on the Eurovision stage. Verka is the closest we got to a drag Eurovision winner act. Ryan Hili's Karma is the safe choice. I mean, safe choices can be finalists if well performed - I mean, we had both Cyprus and Lithuania in the final last year. Ryan Hili is reminding me a lot Andrew Lambrou, without the Adonis looks to add a few brownie points.
Malta was my favourite for six years, but now I don't think that somebody from this selection can reach the final.. I think they need to return Malta x factor, find charismatic artist and then write him/her/them a solid song. As it was in 2019,2020
Sirena has a good chance to go into finals if they have a good staging and continue with their vocals. Mara has potential but I think would need a revamp if it were to get picked, a revamp would be good to work on the weak spots of the song.
interesting choice with "Breathe"... for me personally that was like the most uninteresting ballad of all the finalists. I'm in love with both "Tell Me That It's Over" and "Wild Card" 😁 but apart from those I really enjoy "MARA", "Loop", "Sirena" and kind of "Banana" too so yeah, let's see what they'll bring to the stage for the final of MESC!
Sirena is a pretty good song, but I'm worried, that they won't be able to perform well on a big stage. I don't know the band, but they seemed very amateurish in the semi-final. Matt Blxck is funny and all, but to me Banana is the weakest one of his entries so far (Up was master-class, come around slightly worse, but good nevertheless). Ryan Hili has a great voice, but a weak song. Mara and Loop I don't like at all. In conclusion, I haven't really had high hopes for Malta this year and I don't think any of these entries can qualify to the final in Malmö in their current forms. No matter who wins the selections, they'll have a huge amount of work to do before May, if they want to achieve a good result at eurovision.
This is one of the worst MESCs ever. The level is mediocre and it is a competition for the worst entries. The only redeeming song is Ryan Hili's and it is the best from the worst. And yet it is still not up to level. The rest of the songs, if you can call them that are good for the rubbish dump. I am sorry I am being so harsh but I am so because I am so angry. Are these songs the best composers can give us? And are these singers the best Malta can offer? Apart from one of two, the majority are so so bad - take Greta Tude as an example. If people do not have a voice they should not be allowed to sing.
