I just hit 50 yesterday. I have always loved locks and plan on installing mine soon. I face a multitude of obstacles including my hubby (who said he couldn't kiss me because of my septum ring was showing...whatever!), and a very religious mom in law. But in the end, it's your life and you were put on this earth to live it. Thanks for reminding me to go with my heart.
I love this video so much. When I came home with dreadlocks, my son (12) was like, “oh ok momma, those are really pretty, I thought they’d look crazy on you, but I think they make you so pretty and unique.” I haven’t forgotten those words. Twelve year olds don’t say “momma hold me” or “you’re pretty” as much as when they were younger, so that meant so much (and I *CRIED* for like an hour after).
Turned 56 last month and started my Dreads 8 weeks ago. Shoulder length and I LOVE THEM. I have 3 adult children, my daughter and my two sons always encourage me to live my life . Thanx for sharing your thoughts about the age thing...
I love you so much for doing this vid and for being so positive. I'm 69 and I love the look of dreads. My draw back is that I work as a phlebotomist and employers can be soooo stuffy about things.
At 48 my loc journey has just begun.🌼 I know I’m blowing up your channel. I’m finding yours to be the absolute best by far for information, validation & tips/tricks. Looking forward to the October workshop. 💛Jalynn
I think I just fell in love with you.....this was beautiful. I'm also 44 and want them, but people keep saying I'm too old. I'm buying the stuff today! Thankyou💜
I'm watching this three years after you posted it and a month after I started researching getting locks. Because I'm getting them for a very specific reason, my age cannot play into the question of getting them. But it is a question that I googled about just because it's a valid question. So I really appreciate your addressing this. I'm about to turn 65 and can honestly say that two months ago I would have never dreamed I would be going on this journey. But here I am and here I go! At my age and because I have no family to be concerned about their reaction, my one concern was my friends. So one by one I have been talking to them individually to prepare them. And so far because of the reason I'm doing this, they are choosing to support me and not criticize me. And I didn't expect anything less because I have the greatest friends in the world. But I can also say that regardless of anyone's opinion, I would still do this. We only have one person in the area that does them and he tried to discourage me from doing them, but we've talked further and I've convinced him I'm determined to move ahead with doing so. I will be introducing him to the back brushing and crocheting method, which I am insisting on because I want pretty much instant locks and from all the videos of yours and Liz Kidder's, that seems to be the best way to do them. I have very baby fine hair which is one more reason to go with that method. So thank you for this video because even though I'm determined, it is a form of support to me to hear your thoughts. I'm really learning a lot from your channel so keep the videos coming! Thanks so much!❤
Thank you xoxo born 1969 and going through a divorce from a man who I thought was my everything...but after 18 years he said I was too medically expensive, have gain too much weight and no longer a trophy wife...wow, I didn't realize he could be such an asshole to me. I also have full custody of my granddaughter who will be 4 in Novemeber and I have had her since she was 3 months old. She is a wonderful gift 🎁. I'm ready for some big changes in my life and just hobbling through the research, information, and videos (yours have been the best 💓. I've wanted dreads for many years, just never took the plunge because of husband, mom, and stero types said to me. Screw everyone else what they think! I've done things everyone else's way and that hasn't worked out and it's time for me to just be me
@@LizaLocs For me, it's a risk free learning experience of... Patience, humility and Grace. I love your positive attitude here and on IG. Your photos are great too. Thank you for spreading vibes of light 💛! Warm and Happy Holidays to you and your clan 🎄☄️🎉
Oh my thank you, wishing all the best to you and yours! ❤️ you could not be more right about those little knots on our noggins. Thank you so much for taking the time to share!
❤️❤️❤️ I'm 43 and for a decade I've wanted them... So this was the year that I got them. Simply because I can and realized that it my hair and I can do what I want with it. Thank you! ❤️
Started my loc journey at 33 years old . 10 years later I still have them and love them and they are almost to my knees now. My two kids always tell people they have a hippy mom and their friends think my hair is cool. Never to late to start your journey!
I've been looking for opinions on this matter - thank you so much! Been wanting locs since my 20'ies, and are now 46.. Hesitating, because of what the community would think. But you had me at "Is it hurting anyone or you?" You are so right and gosh, you look so gorgeous and beautiful with locs! Blessings to you
I’ve gotten a little bit of flack (not a lot) from co-workers and family because I am 44, I have thick dreadlocks and (gasp!) I’m embracing my grays. But mostly, I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on my hair! Personally, I think gray, white, silver dreadlocks and simply dreadlocks is magical hair and I’m proud to have dreadlocks at any age!
I’ve wanted them since I’m 17. I’m about to turn 46. I’m making synthetic locs to try and learn how I want to section and all that and then I’m going to do permanent locs and make extensions out of real hair. My kids are excited for me and my husband supports me in everything I try. No one else knows cause I don’t like opinions that really truly don’t matter. Thank you
I'm getting mine put back on after 16 years. They were long when I cut them off and I kept them. Pulled them out months ago lovingly washed them dried them and tied the cut ends with colored rubber bands. And now the day has arrived. I just turned 52 and I'm going for it. So excited. Thank you for this lovely x. It really is soothing to my nerves ❤c
I love this. I discovered dreads as a young college girl. They were very popular on my campus at the time, but there was little information about how to make them , aside from neglect and beeswax, ha! I worried that my hair was too fine, or that I wouldn't really know how to make and take care of them properly. FF to 2021 and my early 50's :) Met a lovely, knowledgeable, talented dreadhead who introduced me to "partials" and helped me. For the first time since the 6th grade I have let my hair grow and be free. I so love the look, love my dreads and love the spirit of them! Thank you for all of your caring content and encouragement.
I'm 42..I have three grown kids (23, 21, 20) and a granddaughter (4). I've had my locks in for almost 3 years (in April). When I decided to finally put my locks in (and keep them in), my kids weren't surprised nor did they care because they know that I've always kept my hair well maintained no matter the style so having dreadlocks was no different. In fact my daughter (21) now has partial dreads and my mom loved mine so much that she had me do her hair...she is 60 and has had hers in for over a year. My granddaughter is next to have them. Right now her hair is in tiny braids but later I'll be turning them into dreadlocks. And before anyone says anything about that..let me tell you that little girl absolutely hates having her hair brushed and I refuse to chase her every morning with the brush and water bottle. LOL...just sayin'. Anyway...thanks for reading!
I'm a yr late but I've been wanting some a while. I didn't consider age a deciding factor. I've had my hair so many different colors and styles nothing woukd probably shick my family anymore but when you got to the part ab being a mom and worrying if I woukd embrass my family, it made me well up tears bc I do hold back a lot of my personal style for that exact reason. In the past couple years I've been "soul searching" and letting go of a lot of fears, doubt, and insecurities (most were just in my own head, self imposed) but I thought that thought process was just me and that I was driving myself crazy. This video and the comments make me feel not so alone. Thank you!
I'm 66 with locs and it works for me. I was married and now a widow for 8 mths and would like to be married again and wondering what older gent would love a girl with locs and cute ones at that.😊 I mean I don't to scare a potential mate away but my hair really works better with them. My husband loved them and he'd seen all ways of my hair journeys. As i mature I only have to wash, towel dry and shake and it's more carefree for me. It just works. As a women with soft kinks, doesn't make sense to press and braid and weave and all of that, I have more time for whatever I want to do! By the way, your locs rock!
I am going through a shift in how I view myself and my self worth. It has taken me 36 years to get to the point where I am finally comfortable enough with who I am as a person and I have always wanted two things: Dreads, and my septum pierced. So guess what ? Thank you for this video, It has really made me inspired to go ahead and do this. I am Different. I am Beautiful. I am Worthy. and in case you need to hear it... You are different. You are Beautiful. You are Worthy.
20 years ago when I went to school for cosmetology I had classmates worrying what their boyfriends would think if they cut or colored their hair. Our teacher said to stop that crap right now, that she'd been married for years and never once asked her husband what he thought. It wasn't on his head so it was none of his concern. That was excellent advice.
I turned 50 in September and just started my locks about 5 weeks ago. My whole life, somebody had something to say about my hair. Now I'm getting older, menopause is being a jerk and my hair is thinning like crazy. I'm going to do what I want now - I won't have the chance much longer
I love this video so much!! I'm 35 years old and I've always wanted dreads, a nose piercing and tattoos but have never had any of them because of the people in my life always telling me how ugly they all were. This year it finally hit me that it is my hair and my body. I have woolies on the way and plan on getting my nose pierced as soon as it's safe around here. It took me many years to realize that I actually don't care what other people think and that I don't have time to worry about their opinions. My hubby hates them and doesn't want me to have them, however once I explained how I felt about them he is the one who ordered them. 🥰 he's still not thrilled but at least he's supportive. I want to dread my own hair but currently cannot afford to so woolies will do while I practice and learn on regular extensions to do it to myself. 🙃
Omg...sweetie! I pulled up most current youtube. Your site came up, wow way to go sweetie! Love your sweet family. I will so go yoo, yoo for you!!!!!! 💓
I turned 50 this year and got my first locks. The beauty of getting older is that we come into ourselves. I am now trying to tackle the idea of getting rid of my bra. ( my girls are girthy ) I will be a good influence on pthers!
I loved this video! I recently found you on ig while looking for dreadlock up-do tutorials. I got the courage to get my hair done when I was 42 (I’m now 44) after my husband talked me into letting go of what others might think. It’s been so freeing. My adult and teen sons haven’t really had an opinion about them, but my 7 yr old daughter wants to be like mommy and get them. Going to church after getting my hair done was.... interesting lol.
Yes... and we’re both moms, tattooed etc 😉 I’ve noticed people I run into wait for a kind of attitude from me, but then end up with this confused look on their faces bc I’m so kind and respectful 😊
I'm getting ready to go into my 50th summer and my appointment to get my dreds is fifteen days away 😊 couldn't think of a better way to start it! Still enjoying my music and trips to haunted victorian inns, and even stepped into the future 3 years ago to grab my mmj card 😂😂
I just discovered you a few days ago and I swear I'm in love with you! You are just so adorable and positive and I can feel your amazing vibes!!! Everything you've said is so empowering, and yet your presentation is so gentle 💕
Hi, my name is Ann. My daughter got permanent dreads yesterday & looks amazing in them. After her seeing how good she looks with long dreadlocks down her back, she suggested to me, to get dreadlocks to. Ever since my mom (said to me) at the age of 15-16 years old, "Quit being (so vain). That's when I chopped the long hair off that I had. And ive NEVER been able to grow it since. Ive gone to short cuts, to buzzing it right down to my scalp to wearing wigs, and still my mom & dad weren't happy then. So, after my daughter got her hair done yesterday & mentioned to me about getting mine done I'm gonna go for it. However, I'll be 62 in January. Is that to old to get them?
I love how you validate multiple peoples ideas/worries. I've also never have cared what people think about me hairzz & really what I do lol I just whole heart you friend 💞, so proud of you and how freakin' far you've come 😘😘😘 you da bestest ♥️
I have been wanting locs for I do not remember how many years. When I was a teenager I saw a guy with them and they were so beautiful.... But I was going to a private college that not even shoes with more then 8 holes for the ties were permitted. I have been stalking pinterest for many years with dreadlocks pictures but been always afraid of commit. What if I do not like them in my hair?.... Then last year I stoped being able to dye my hair due to my body reacting to any type of dye. So I made the jump for my 40th b-day last year, addind even more grey to them. My friend, who has done her own locs, did my head . At first, she did 2 rows. Then 2-3 days later, I called her back asking for one more row. Then 2-3 days later another row... to finally have about 75% of my head done. I am getting the rest done in a few weeks... yay! I love them... and I do not care what other people think of them. If you cannot like someone anymore because of their hair, armpit hair, hair color, hair style, style, weight, tatoos, what ever physical reason... then they are not meant to be in your life period. Something physical should never be a barrier to love and social acceptance.
Oh girl, I love everything you said!!! I’m so happy for you to finally be getting your whole head done! It’s so exciting!! Looking forward to pictures!! 💕💕💕
I'm a guy, have wondered if I was to old for dress. Will my children hate me, or my grandchildren. I'm 62 in July, silver hair, yes I think I'm too old....lol
Not sure I'm brave enough also. Though I did wear a utility kilt for 10 years in a conservative small town midwestern Michigan, so you would think it wouldn't bother me to have dreads, but I've lost some of my confidence since losing my partner/wife of 30+ years over 5 years ago. Other low self esteem issues as well. Sorry didn't mean to get all negative...
Barry Lytle they’ve done amazing things for my confidence. My recommendation is that if you do end up deciding to take the plunge to get them professionally done so you have instant confidence, from there it continues to build. They are kind of awesome that way. Of course it is so very personal, so follow your heart. I’m so very sorry about your loss.
Have you had any issues with hair thinning? I am 48, and have always had thick hair- but kept it fairly short because I am into a goth/punk aesthetic ( I had a mohawk for over 20 years). I have always loved locs, and have had them now off and on for about 5 years. I have chronic pain and medical issues, and I have trouble with the weight. What, if any, products do you suggest for hair thinning? How can I achieve my dream hair with all these challenges?
Can we please please PLEASE be friends?! I started locing my hair 4 weeks ago, first with braid in synthetic extensions then I started locing my natural hair and will gradually remove the braided in ones and loc those sections and add natural hair loc extensions... so... That being said... I'll be 40 on January 27 and my 16 year old daughter also is not the biggest fan but my 20 year old doesn't care and the boys that I nanny (2&4) love my "snake hair". I'm just me, unapologetically me, beautifully me. Just as you are you and my daughter is she. 💖
As an older white woman I want dreads but I can’t find anyone who will do it for some reason they think my hair will fall out I’m 53 and hair to my waist any siggestions
Hoi Liza, I am Hans [ male ] from Holland and just found your site and love it!! I have not seen every video but this one i want to reply... I have my dreads now for about 1,5 years and i am 66 years old...hahaha They are all from my hair, so no extentions!! They are about 45 cm long and i love them and are made by a lovely girl here in about 8 hours. People have tot do what they want and what about age ??? Sorry for my English. Gr. Hans ---
I've had dreads for a year and a half, and I'm 39. I have 2 elementary aged kids that don't care about my hair. My husband doesn't like them, though. Sigh.
You're going to hate me haha but I was crying to my husband because I wanna start my dreads and I told him I was to old because I am almost 25 and i should have got them done when i was 18, anyways thank you for the video I just need to buy some extensions because my hair is really short lol
I make dreads and special items for them -- I have always been who I am and no one to approve of what is myself -- just bent in a different way I guess -- I do not need someone to approve of what I do or how I wear my hair -- and said with kindness -- Mom, wife, and grandmom
In the black culture where it originated from locs are spiritual and don’t have to do with fashion or age it symbolizes our spirit of our ancestors and our eternal integrity and enlightenment of knowledge and wisdom this is why you shouldn’t take things from other cultures and try to adopt them because you will never know the meaning if your not involved with the people and the grassroots
I’m getting temporary dreads next week and I’m 63 years young 😍
That's so cool! I'm 69 and contemplating getting dreads ... when I get a bit more length to my hair!

I'm turning 52 and I want dreadlocks. I have wanted them for a long time. I'm finally at that "F it, I don't care anymore" stage of my life.

I pulled up most current youtube. Your site came up, wow way to go sweetie! Love your sweet family. I will so go yoo, yoo for you!!!!!! 💓
Thank you sweet friend!! I appreciate it so much!! 💕💕💕
Just got to the part about moms comment about your first tattoo. My mom and I had the EXACT same exchange about my first few
Moms are kind of predictable 🤣🤣🤣🙈🙈💕
67 and starting my second loc journey!

Girl that’s amazing we were both 42 and 44 now!! Twins! 👯♀️ Congrats to you!! Thank you so much for watching! ❤️🙏🏻
Yes... and we’re both moms, tattooed etc 😉 I’ve noticed people I run into wait for a kind of attitude from me, but then end up with this confused look on their faces bc I’m so kind and respectful 😊
I am 45 and my dreads are 6 months old and I love them. You are inspiring ✨ ❤
I'm getting ready to go into my 50th summer and my appointment to get my dreds is fifteen days away 😊 couldn't think of a better way to start it! Still enjoying my music and trips to haunted victorian inns, and even stepped into the future 3 years ago to grab my mmj card 😂😂
Oh my god, I'm a grandma and really looking for 'older' woman inspiration.. You're a baby ...go for it!
I just discovered you a few days ago and I swear I'm in love with you! You are just so adorable and positive and I can feel your amazing vibes!!! Everything you've said is so empowering, and yet your presentation is so gentle 💕
I started my loc journey at the age of 71. Wish I had done it earlier.
I love your spirit and your videos 💖 great job!
How INSPIRING!! My daughter is only 10 but I feel like I can relate so well!! This video was really really helpful! Thank you for posting!
Oh Nova thank you!! Thank YOU for watching! 💕🙏🏻
Your awesome, Im 48 and have dreads NEVER to old woohoo
Couldn’t agree more!!!
What a beautiful video, thank you so much for giving me that confidence. Soon as I can, I will have them on!.
Thank you so much Meg 💕 I hope you’re doing well. 💕🙏🏻
@@LizaLocs Oh I will !
I'm a guy, have wondered if I was to old for dress. Will my children hate me, or my grandchildren. I'm 62 in July, silver hair, yes I think I'm too old....lol
NEVER too old! Never!!!! I think your kids and grandkids will think you’re a badass!!!
59 and I have them ha
Good for you!!!
Love this so much and thankyou I really did need to hear this. You're so inspiring and lovely x
I am just asking myself this very question….at 42….to put mine back in…
Will you be my mom?! Lol but really to hear the message you’re sharing as a kid would have been so amazing!
Dreadlocks are made for you ☀️❤️ and don't know about old but i like your wild
Thank you so very much 🙏🏻
Can we please please PLEASE be friends?! 💖
I love this!!!💖

@@LizaLocs thank you 💙🧡🤗
I've had dreads for a year and a half, and I'm 39.
Omg I love this!! 🤣🤣🤣 you are definitely NOT too old!!! 🤣🤣🤣 so cute! It’s all relative isnt it?!
I got mine last year..I’m 60. I love them!
I am in California I can help y’all start your locks
I’m soon 69 and getting my locks for the first time😍👍
you are way overthinking this omg its hair ---- and as i said i have dreads ha
Not me, others. Validating their feelings and letting them know to follow their heart. ❤️
I make dreads and special items for them -- I have always been who I am and no one to approve of what is myself -- just bent in a different way I guess -- I do not need someone to approve of what I do or how I wear my hair -- and said with kindness -- Mom, wife, and grandmom
I think that’s awesome. ❤️ you are a very strong woman and a beautiful example to your family.
I am 52 about to o reinstall mine. I cut them because of peoples opinions. Dread love don’t have a age or race
♡
❤️❤️❤️
I’m 50 and I have locks
In the black culture where it originated from locs are spiritual and don’t have to do with fashion or age it symbolizes our spirit of our ancestors and our eternal integrity and enlightenment of knowledge and wisdom this is why you shouldn’t take things from other cultures and try to adopt them because you will never know the meaning if your not involved with the people and the grassroots
