The song is Arrirang, arguably the best-known Korean melody in the West. It's been recorded by Western artists including pianist Paul Winston, conductor Paul Mauriat and all-male a capella group, Chanticleer (who sings the Korean lyrics). Some have said that the applause was tepid. Asian audiences are often lowkey in applauding. Standing ovations and shouts like "bravo" are almost never given, especially to native acts. I don't read Japanese, but this may also just be a halftime act.
the moment i heard this song, i was like ''exactly what i was looking for'' when i saw the ppl (color guard or...the people who hold up the fans) ''oh even better'' *SEES A MARCHING BAND* ''OH F*CK YES OwO''
this sounds absolutely amazing. It's a concert that happens to be on the field. the sonority is absolutely beautiful. The marching is spot on, and beyond precision and accuracy. this is just an all around great performance.
One thing I know for sure... the clarinet part in the second song is fairly difficult to play that fast and that clean, especially while marching. It's a very flat key with alternating pedal keys and alternates. Props to them.
It just pops up here and their in our music books in middle school and there are lots of arrangements that we have in our music library in our band room. Its not something that is tought to us. We just play it if we ever came across it.
Umm...this is marching band. It's supposed to have "fanfare". VARIATIONS ON A KOREAN FOLK SONG is a band song, arranged for wind band (and now orchestra), and this band does a VERY good job with the marching transcription. One of the best I've heard.
Yea I agree with you, but Arirang never gets annoying lol. We played it in 6th grade and 7th grade. Had it in district honor band 8th grade. Played it in 9th grade at a different level and then saw the same peice in district in 10th grade. So arirang can never get annoying cause Ive put up with it for 5 years now.
i loooooved the show... but wats with the uniforms?? horns in western-style uniforms.... guard with shinto-style outfits..... and a pit ensemble with jazz-like uniforms [as seen in the other video]?
LoL! I know what you're referring to, but I'm telling you that the arrangement was originally a wind band transcription; that what they're marching to is NOT a traditional Korean folk song, but rather an arrangement OF an arrangement. This might help: go to JW Pepper (the largest sheet music sight in the world), and search for VARIATIONS ON A KOREAN FOLK SONG. That might make you understand what I'm trying to say a little bit better.
It's not that hard. VARIATIONS ON A KOREAN FOLK SONG is a grade 4 song, and played very commonly among high schools, and middle school honor bands. It does require a certain maturity to play WELL, which is rare you find in many high school groups, but note-wise it is not impossible by any means. Try SYMPHONY NO.3 by James Barnes on for size. If I ever hear a high school group try to tackle that one I'll lose my mind!
The fact that they did this song marching, and in a gymnasium, blows my mine. My band can't even do it sitting down in a band room.

They did a great job with music! I love 4:15 - 5:00 I also love hearing the conductor say "4!" sounds cool for some reason lol.

アクションも完璧だし、ガードのフラッグの動作もよく揃ってる。 憧れるわ

The visuals are beautiful not to mention a beautiful sound although the gym walls helped. if it was outside it would be amazing

俺が高1の時、全国大会で観たのだ!
あの時は感動したよ
東洋をモチーフにした吹奏楽曲は、東洋のバンドの演奏のほうが上手いですね
Hot damn
Thatvwas insanely kool... Freaken Asian are always better at everything!
吹奏楽・マーチング界ではかなりの知名度を誇る定番曲”Arirang”をけなすとは
マーチングやってる高校生としては悲しく思う
