As an artist who actually sucks at coloring and never understood how to add my knowledge to my own artworks after watching multiple of shading tutorials, THIS HELPED A LOT (like literally). Out of all the color tutorials I've watched I felt like this one gave me the most highlights for coloring and easier understandment. I can't believe you're underrated😭
video saved for later... how much later who knows but eventually will open it once again when i complete other stuff on my infinitively long bucket list of art study stages
Thanks for this. I've been putting more effort into understanding this lately and every little bit helps. One thing I've been doing is studying so-cal & anime characters in grayscale and seeing how the designers balanced them all. From my perspective, there's a hierarchy where everything in the body and hair is trying to frame the face and everything in the face is trying to frame the eyes. When I took Dipper (from Gravity Falls), no background or color made his design look bad. Balancing characters like this seems pretty important for animation. The easier it is to put a character into any context, the less issues you'll have when designing backgrounds in isolation (though, references are still a must). That all probably goes without saying, though
Glad it helped even just a little. I never really thought about it but, it makes so much sense that designing characters would use the same principles as an illustration. Likely even more so because of the constant changes of lighting, and colour.
This video was rlly helpful tysm!!! Cause i usually just try and replicate artstyles rather than try and find out why and how they use the colours there! (Btw is that mafuyu ? :0 4:07 )
@@komogu_ still very useful just wanna say that this is good it help me understand some parts easier as a self taught artist :’> it’s just that learning all these without drawing and studying off like 50+ color wheels is something I can’t comprehend yet ;-; but overall everything in the video is super good and helpful to those who wanna study colors I’m not that good at colors but most of thr informations in the video matched what I’ve been studying so far so it’s good I also learn some more stuffs about colors in this video this actually make me wanna continue study colors again to find out more stuffs that I’ve left out :’> ngl if I haven’t seen this video I’d still trying to study fabrics something that always make my life hard when drawing :’)) now I got something else to study while figuring out how fabrics work without getting bored and dropped mid way
I can tell just by looking at the thumbnail that there's no color in the piece. I see a bunch of white and white is not a color. The thumbnail also has very low contrast wich makes everything look the same. You want contrast of Hue and Contrast of Value. You wanna learn how to color talk to professional model painters because that's basically all we do with our plastic. I recommend Sergio Calvo minatures because his models look like 2d illustrations in real life.
Just a little question at 4:01 there is colours to dark and light, but I haven’t understood which colour to start with. Like the light one or the dark first, because I tried to do it but it doesn’t fit the way I wanted to do it. And the colour went to look flat instead. 🧍♂️
yo udon't need any of that knowledge. just draw the colors that you feel like. I know some artists that just do that and are "anylyzed" here with "this artist uses opposite colors on the color wheel blabla value and hue blabla while the artist put a statement with: lol people put way more interpretation in my things than I do I just draw colors that I want. art channel 1: this artist draws so good because of the super pale colors they use art channel 2: don't do this art mistake and don't use super pale colors it will be boring and most of these channels don't even show proper artwork but only traced / copied "studies" because they brag with all the technical knowledge but they can't draw anything in practical spot. no color knowledge or shading knowledge will help you if you lack creativity and you can't draw a simple flower without a reference.
I've always believed that art is a mix of both the practical and the technical. People that pick colours intuitively do so because they already have the knowledge based on their own experience, but that doesn't mean that learning it is useless. Learning the knowledge will build on what you already know, and enhace it even more.
Those were actually the original colours for the illustration! I liked both versions, but went for the second one in the end. This is the hardest part of choosing colours for me because I can never tell which colours people would generally prefer. 3:33 is a good example of this, I think all of the colours look good, but don't know which one would be the best. All I can do is choose the one that is the most appealing to me.
insane quality for a small channel
ty, getting comments like these means a lot to me!
THEN LET'S MAKE THIS SMALL CHANNEL BEEEEGGG!!!!! (┛✧Д✧))┛
0:50 i thought it was fake but i tested it was real. Crazy colour relativity
I thought it was too until I checked it myself!

Thank you so much! I'm glad that it helped you understand better!
i love you, i learned something new. Like blue being the darkest and using orange overlay to emphasize a part.
I'm glad you learned something new!
I really liked the first one more because it reminded me of traditional Xieyi style paintings from China.
I can definately see it. I think its because of the limited palette and the contrast of the colours.
You're so underrated, you deserve more, keep up🫂
Thank you!🫂

Hopefully you get to it soon! I should work on my bucket list of art studies too...

This video should’ve been out years ago when I was starting to study color so I don’t have to draw like 50+ color wheel to understand colors
Hopefully you still found the video useful!

oh wow and i thought the thumbnail look really good
It's just a little bit of clickbait, I think it looks good too. I really like these colours personally, but I know that not everybody would like them.
you’re so underrated 😭😭😭
Thank you😭
Thank youuuu I was looking for perfect video since I'm having difficulties on colouring my poster for a competition!!!🥺🥺❤️
No problem! Good luck with your competitiion :D
Color theory should be taught in school 😭🙏

I'll look into Sergio Calvo. There is always something to learn from other artists even if the medium is different.
This vid gives more information than most popular artists 😭
I'm glad that it does! I'm not used to making informative content so I wasn't sure if it would be helpful.

You can start with gray first and change it to black, and white later to see how it looks.
u deserve more subscriber ❤
❤
Thanks for your video. Glad that I'm getting interesting tutorials
I'm glad that you found it interesting!
Okay, so i come here because the title is straight to my problem 😂

Just leave a comment here so the algorithm favors you more!
Seems like your info content would be appreciated if it reaches more people
Thank you! I really appreciate it.
Here's to hoping that Square Enix doesn't find my man's video with all of that Chrono Trigger ost 🙏🏻
Keep it a secret😂
Too underrated, still, tysm for the tutorial :]
np :]
One thing I did recently was buy a high color accuracy OLED monitor. Night and day difference.
Getting a good monitor can help a lot too. Thats why its always a good idea to check your colours with multiple monitors.

am i the only one confused by the start like, the first version looks way better for me?

idk, I think my colors are pretty okay.
