    1. This is not meant to be a start to finish guide for installing a genuine cruise control switch into a YB Kia Rio. Such guides are available elsewhere, and I watched multiple of those myself. This video contains some insights that I learnt when installing the switch into my own Rio. In particular, I’ve tried to address and answer questions that I couldn’t find an answer to in other videos / websites before I installed it. Hopefully this helps you feel more confident in doing the install. In the end, it was quite an easy job and should take you 25-30mins max., but do it slowly and methodically.
    2. From 2:00 onwards I mean “screw” not “switch” when I’m referring to the screws. I clearly hadn't had enough coffee that day!
    3. At the 3:40 mark, I mention screwing the screw into the plastic until there's 8-10mm of thread showing. After doing my second install for a friend, I realised you could probably afford to go to within about 7mm of thread showing, but please still apply common sense. Personally I think 8-10mm is a little too much and it will be too loose and require more thread cutting after the switch is put into place, which is a little more nerve wracking than cutting the thread with the switch still out.
    3. Because I didn’t need to disconnect the airbag, there were no codes for me to clear when I reconnected the battery and started the car. An OBD reader was not required.
    Any questions, please ask in the comments!

      Hi there. I'm afraid my 2017 YB Rio had this screen as factory standard. The later model (which my friend has) does have a larger screen, and possibly it would fit into other YB models but I never got an opportunity to try it, sorry.

      Yeah, trickiest part is getting the airbag to pop out, can take a bit of fiddling and lots of patience. Good luck!

    If it helps I have a 2022 Kia Rio and I used a cruise control switch out of a Kia picanto for it off of eBay motors and it works great

      Hey Brian, good to know there are some other options available, i.e. same part number from other models. Perhaps people can find one from wreckers. Cheers mate.

    Amazing work. Glad it's working for you.
    Can you help me with some questions please
    I'm trying to install mine on my kia and it's not working
    Did you have to change the clock spring? I even bought a new clock spring and it's not working with either of them
    I appreciate any advice you can give me and thanks in advance

      Hey sorry for slow reply, only just saw this. Sorry to hear it didn't work out. Nope, I didn't need to change the clock spring. Provided you've got the right switch and the right RIO, it should be a direct swap out. It sounds like something else is going on with your vehicle. Perhaps other TH-cam videos about Kia clock springs and steering wheel controls might help you? Good luck!

      Hey there! I am in Australia and this was the cheapest one I found:

    hey not sure where u are in austrlaia but i am in melb australia, how much would it cost me for u to install this?

      Hey Emily Jane. I'm in Sydney, but I'll be back in Melbourne for work in late November. Not sure if I'll have a hire car this time, and not sure where in Melbourne you are located either, but if you are fairly close to where I'd be staying then I'd be happy to come have a go depending on where you are located (if you had the switch ready to go) and would be happy not to charge since it's only about 20mins... that is, if you're happy for me to adopt an "All care, no responsibility" approach lol. Which is what I did for my friend when I did it on his vehicle. Alternatively, do you have any friends or family members who are pretty handy? I think it's a pretty low risk job, actually. The hardest part is getting the airbag to unclip, and I'd also recommend disconnecting the vehicle battery for 30mins before having a go, "just in case".

    I got Kia rio 2023 LX. So only this remote needs to be replaced and it will work cruise control??

    • @heavypizzas6004
      @heavypizzas6004  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      On my Australian version of the LX, this is all I needed. Basically the software was in the ECU, the little cruise light is in the instrument panel, and the factory just chooses which switch to install into the steering wheel, depending on what model they're producing. Hopefully this is the same for your US LX model.

    Hi, is it only the bottom you need to replace or is there anything else?

    • @heavypizzas6004
      @heavypizzas6004  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Matt. I assume you mean “button”, not bottom. If so, yep it’s just the button. Once you replace the button, it works. I’ve now done it on two Kia Rios. A 2017 and my friend’s 2021/22 (facelift model). If you’re in Australia, the link in my comment reply below is the cheapest one I’ve found. And it’s new, genuine.

      My friend’s steering wheel horn was slightly harder to remove than mine, but it was still the same process.

    What screw driver did you exactly use to pop the airbag out I bought a cruise control switch for my 2022 Kia Rio lx and can’t figure out to pop it out

    • @heavypizzas6004
      @heavypizzas6004  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey, from memory I used a regular flathead screwdriver, basically just as a lever. It can be quite fiddly to get it in exactly the right spot to make it pop out, though. On mine I got it fairly quickly. On my friend's Rio, it took quite a while of fiddling around with the screwdriver until it just suddenly "clicked" and popped out. Maybe if you've tried it yourself for quite a while and getting sick of it, ask a friend or family member to give it a go, rather than trying too many times and getting sick of it and possibly damaging something by trying to force something. I've done that too many times, personally. Good luck!

      Also, if you try one size flathead screwdriver with no success, maybe then try a different size, either a fair bit smaller or larger. It might just be the difference.

    Did you disconnect the battery or just the negative ?

    • @heavypizzas6004
      @heavypizzas6004  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      From memory I disconnected the battery completely, but a Google websearch suggests that disconnecting negative would be sufficient. I recommend you double check on Google to be sure. Thanks for watching.
