I see you are entering your military history phase with this one haha. Godric looks interesting now that I'm starting to read some fiction. Can't go wrong with Finley. Song of Wrath was decent from what I remember but that was way long ago. And yeah the Iliad basically opens with Sing the Rage Son of Peleus so I assume that's where it's from. Lots of interesting picks for sure John
Stalingrad and White Mogul were both highlight books for me when I read them but the rest were of interest, except the fictionalised biography. Wherever is that? Neither biography nor historical fiction, odd. I hope you review it some time. I don't know Gardner had written such a book. Publisher?
I couldn’t stand _The Road to Disunion_ and DNF’d it which was kinda odd because I _loved_ his _Nullification Controversy._ I don’t know if I was just off, so I’ll be curious to hear what you have to say. That particular Finley is my fave. It’s very short. That could even be my ex-copy, the pages yellowed atrociously.
White Mughals is the only history book of Dalrymple's that I haven't read, I should get it some time. Zamoyski is great. I have heard great things about the Lendon book.
I appreciate you always letting me know what you've heard about some of these. Many of them are random pick-ups because I recognize an author or book name, but obviously don't know anything about the quality of the writing itself, so your comments always help me "triage" what I might be interested in first. Thanks, Anthony.
Grr, i wrote a response and now it's disappeared. I suppose i upset It YT's AI, algorithm or whatever again. Anyway, i liked most of the books. I was puzzled by the fictonal biography. What the devil is that?
It hasn't disappeared. You have a habit of writing your responses under other people's comments. Your first one was under Justin's. Feel free to write them like you've written this one, i.e., freestanding and not as a reply to someone else.
So many great books! I've added several to my want to read (eventually) list. The Ottoman Centuries looks especially interesting.
So glad you saw something you liked, Arianne!
That is one very impressive haul 😊
Let me know if you saw anything you'd like to dig into together sometime!
Nice haul! Those Shirer books look fascinating.
You should have seen how I looked up and down that table to find the third volume. 😂 Glad to have the first two, though.
@ Have you read Rise and Fall of the Third Reich? I own it but haven’t read it yet.
@@revenantreads Not yet. I'll grab it as soon as I see it at a decent price, though.
Nice haul! I own Margaret Macmillan’s “Paris 1919” and hope to read it at some point. Glad to know that she is worth reading.
Let's read something together one of these days when you're on break from school!
Sure, I would love to! I’ve never actually done a buddy read before, but I would be interested in trying!
Margaret Macmillan is the aunt of Dan Snow the British historian who runs the History Hit network so it runs in the family.

Looking forward to a fictionalized biography (sort of?) of an historical person!

I thought I recognised the author Buechner, I have his book The Storm high on my wishlist.
I'm mostly interested in the few he wrote set in the middle ages, but he's never someone I see highly discounted, so I was glad to find it.

@NicholasOfAutrecourt I must see to it that watch out for that. Sorry.
