All makes sense IF the person you live with is like minded. But if that person cares not or doesn't even notice clutter and the notion is not intrinsic to them, then consistent decluttering doesn't happen. Communication helps, yes, but doesn't solve the problem. Divergence in that regard is something both people must learn to accept.
It's my experience that QUIETLY continuing personal decluttering/re-homing rubs off on resistors and they eventually adopt many of these practices on their own; just takes time, although acceptance IS part of living with others on many fronts.
Our home is quite tidy and clutter free. I’m married and we have a 3.5 and 5 yr old. My husband never sees messes or dirt so expecting him to see something that needs to be picked up and put away is just not going to happen. I’ve been tidy all my life so asking him to change who he is just asking for it. It’s been about 3 years since I began decluttering and we also moved to a house 1/3rd the size during that time. We completely gutted and rebuilt 2 bathrooms and a kitchen while living here, consciously on my part to make sure we have a place for everything in the design. To those who think that just because they have kids or their spouse is messy, it does NOT mean you can’t have a tidy home. I’ve found that once everything has been given a home, it’s very easy to put those things back, even for my husband. And if it’s just me putting those things back, it takes less than 30 minutes for the whole house.
i just moved into my first apartment with no roommates. i’ve had my fair share of messy roommates and honestly, it’s hard to keep the common areas how you want them when others use the space without fixing it back. this video is so helpful! something that i learned within the first month of me being by myself is all the mess is MINE. i can’t blame anyone else for the clutter. ps my list has a vacuum on it now lol
I noticed small things of Ukrainian symbols (sticker, a pin on a trench, etc.) a couple of times in your videos. Just wanted to say a huge thank you for this💙💛 It is really important for us that people all over the world are aware of russian aggression and support Ukraine. Thank you🙏 ❤️
🧹I'm also in a 600sq feet home and storage is probably the biggest priority, most of our furniture has some hidden storage (at the expense of aesthetics, but it's worth it!), and anything we bring into our lives has to have a place that's perfect to put it, or we're not getting it. Agreed on intentional decor, there's only so much space in the home so space tend to go to useful things that could also serve as decor, like a pretty wooden box (for more storage!) I think the other thing for small homes is to say no to open storage, the more things we leave on surfaces just gives visual clutter and makes our home feel even smaller and cramped, those cute open shelves are not going to do any favours for small spaces.
I like that you said keep decor intentional rather than minimal. I appreciate a modern, minimalist look but it's not my preferred style. A cozy, slightly eclectic bohemian look feels much more homey to me! Yet, every little trinket or plant has it's place, and I do a little tidy each night to keep my space organized and clean. :)
Yup- still watched this video even though I have been doing these things for years. My husband and I have always been neat, clean, and organized people; And we have taught our kids to be the same. I completely believe in the mantra of "cluttered space- cluttered mind" Though I do believe most people live in a cluttered space; I don't know many people who live neatly like me actually
I do 🙋🏻♀️ We don’t have kids, but one fur baby (who sheds & doesn’t clean up after herself lol) Not only we’re neat at home, but when we travel & stay in hotels as well. We keep our room clean as if we’re at home, clean after ourselves, hubby even made our bed (I kept reminding him to leave something for hotel staff to do 🙊).
🧹Love these tips. I like to do a quick sweep of the house before bed. It takes less than 5 minutes to tidy up and then you don't wake up to a mess in the morning.
great tips😘 -The dyson stick made me into vacuuming all the time as I hated it before . I can do a quick one in 10 min to my 4 bed 3 bath 2 story house … I even just do the sofa without changing the attachment as I am a savage -As far as dishes do them as you use them …no dishes in the sink ever -with time I got rid of most decor as I had a rule that i needed to commit to cleaning it properly every week
I really like the "two-minute" rule. If I can put something away or otherwise take care of it in two minutes or less, I do it now rather than waiting to take care of it later. It's amazing how much this has transformed my home.
🧹 We wash the dishes as we go and always wash them before bed. Dirty dishes in the sink are a big nono. I need to incorporate vacuuming more often, though. I have definitely pared down my wardrobe so the closet is not cluttered. I like that you say minimalish because I like to have some items around that bring me joy. Thanks for the great content.
1. Vacuuming the space. 2. No dirty dishes before bed. 3. Simplify. 4. Wipe Down Surfaces as you go. 5. Put it away. 6. Turn down space when done. 7. Cute storage. 8. Keep decor intentional. 9. Making the bed. 10. Hide your clutter.
I love the fact that you put the accent on "intentional". Even though minimalistic homes are my fave thing ever, my ideal apartment will never be like that, simply because I own a lot of stuff that indeed brings me joy. Collectionists, where you at?
Your house looks great . 🛋️🛋️ I'm lucky to be living with someone that was a minimalist his whole life without even knowing what minimalism is, he just doesn't own many things. Makes it much easier for our home to be clutter free since I also embarked on the minimalism journey a while back. The kitchen is the least minimalist space in our house because I love cooking and baking, which translates into a lot of pots, pans and baking dishes. But they have their own space, so I guess that's ok. ☺️
🧹 🧼 yes 🙌!! In addition to, I also do a “ten minute clean 🧼 “ everyday, so things don’t pile up. I set the clock ⏰ ( or Siri/ Alexa) to ten minutes and stop 🛑 once it chimes/ rings! Cleaning 🧽 is my hobby and I have mild OCD! Also tchotchke’s lol 😂 !! My grandma 👵 & mom call them, along with too many picture frames 🖼 “dust collectors”. So they’ve instilled the idea 💡 of minimal decor in me, even for Halloween 🎃 & Christmas 🎄! Hugs 🤗, Amy
I watched this video yesterday I was at home (school close no work!!) Sometimes I love living in Quebec. I got inspired, went to the dollorama and bought containers and I did some decluttering and cleaning. Thanks for this motivation :) .
You actually made me vacume my floors, i hate vacuming and i just told my son that i am going to do it tomorrow because i just dont feel like it today. But now i am going to right away. Thankyou love from switzerland ❤
🧹 great tips, especially for a small space. One tip I have is to always put silverware in the dishwasher with the handle up, sharp facing down. Avoid any tragic accidents in case of a trip and fall or curious child. Also, it is easier to grab the handle to put silverware away. ❤️
100% agree about the unnecessary bed pillows that designers seem to love. My bed is not a couch! Honestly lots of couches have too many cushions for comfort too.
This was a helpful video for me today. I'm laying here wanting to tidy but unable to get myself up and moving, and this is inspiring me to get things looking good!
I’m so happy I do most of these things! My kids make our apt the most cluttered but we’re working towards it. And we are total vacuuming junkies we use it every day lol
🧹 I concur. Also, don't get caught up in storage being coordinated. If it's in a drawer or cabinet, no one knows basket 1 doesn't match basket two. Thank you!
Great video Christina. I use most of these and they are so helpful. A habit that I also have is a weekly housekeeping task of the day. I just check off the task that day, and I don’t have to think about the rest of the house which helps my peace of mind. Today is Sunday, which is bathroom clean day 😊. Also includes my laundry, Tuesday towels and Saturday sheets 😂
🧹🧹 I love this! Every time my family comes to town, I go through a weekend of deep cleaning which is exhausting and makes me dread their visits. Not that I’m messy, but I am lazy. I am implementing some of these tips now to make it less stressful on myself!
My home is organized clutter. I have a system where I put things because I hate not being able to find things so I put items together logically. If I wanted something I can retrace steps to where it should be at. My drawers and closet rods are also grouped; a drawer for sleeveless, one for tees, a rod for tops, rod for pants, rod for outerwear etc.. Basically I am lazy. I tend to figure out the least time consuming ways to live my life.
🧹!!! Loved these tips. Something I’ve recently been trying to implement is being mindful of how much energy I exert on cleaning/tidying tasks. For example, instead of picking up things in one room that need to go in other, and walking back and forth 100 times, I keep a basket handy that I can carry from room to room with things that need put away. Helps tremendously when you have a toddler following you around all day and getting into everything!
We are similar, Christina, in that I don't like visible clutter in our small and I dont like cleaning! Ee think the same about decor and simlified bed set up.Thank you for your endorsement of the Dyson vacuum. My husband has asked around and people say that it's hard to get one with good suction. G Ire
I have to have a clean kitchen before I go to bed. Even if we have a dinner party, I always stay up afterwards to turn the dishwasher on and wash anything that didn’t fit. I dry it and put it away and the clean my sink before I go to bed. If I’m exhausted and it’s very late, the vacuuming can wait until the next day as long as the kitchen is clean.
Saw your video on the financial diet, what an accomplishment! Congratulations to you 💪🏻. You really inspired me to start my own youtube channel. Making my way to a better, financial future hopefully!🤞🏻
Your coffee table is pretty neat! I have a lovely cleaner. It is the best money I spend. I had 6 cats but now only have one. Much less litter and fur. Miss my kitties but they are at rest. Had a lot of old animals. However, I do have some stuff. I try to keep stuff hidden and put stuff away. I fill up the dishwasher. Make my bed. Put my clothes away or in the hamper. But there is no way my house would ever look like yours! Haha! Pet toys, cupboards with stuff in them! I don’t have clutter or knickknacks.

I can't relax in a cluttered or dirty house either, but sometimes I don't want to do the dishes, and I think I need to get rid of some old tee shirts so I can put away my casual clothes easier. Those are my main problem areas. I think pretty much everything else is similar to what is described here.
🧹I so appreciate your approach and that you don’t guilt people to be minimalist. I try to be very intentional about acquiring anything new but don’t see the need to get rid of what I’ve already got.
Greetings from Spain!! I have recently discovered your channel and I really love your lifestyle and vibes. You are super nice and inspiring! Thank u for the videos ❤️🔥🤞🏻
I want to vacuum more bc our rental has full on carpet everywhere barf but our vacuum is a giant lug and so heavy 😩 it’s what we could afford at the time Still working through decluttering and organizing 😮💨
The Dyson is a game changer. We've had ours for about 4 years and it's still running great. I do change the filters every 6 months or so. BTW, what label maker do you use that makes the raised letters you showed.??
🧹 Thank you for all these suggestions. I found the one that makes the biggest difference in keeping things tidy is " Put it away , right away". It seems the minute you put something down and leave it, it invites additional clutter. So eliminate that right away.
Hey Christina! I recently discovered your channel through Signe and have been obsessing over all your videos. Love the budgeting stuff in particular, and the capsule wardrobe content too. Keep up the amazing work! P.S. I'm also Ukrainian :)
🧹 I found the broom 😅 to keep up with my clutter and to have a tidy home is difficult for me. I try my best but with a husband and a little one I am loosing the battle 😔 I hope I can use the upcoming winter for more decluttering and so on...
I’m wondering why you look so familiar and then I read your old channel name.🥰🥰🥰I have subscribed as I’m hoping to reach a minimal state one day and need as much motivation as I can get. Also love supporting other Canadian TH-camrs.🥰
🧹 I think the best part of owning less is that the space can never really get that messy!! That was an unexpected bonus for me once I paired down. Even if I leave all the cleaning tasks to the weekend it still takes so much less time
Christina, you mentioned the hair fall- a while back you were trying a new product to help with that (I can't recall what it was), just wondered if you were noticing a benefit/can recommend?
I was using the ordinary hair serum - I wasn’t too consistent with it. I increased the protein in my diet and that’s seemed to help the most tbh! I wanna try rosemary water tho

YES! Minimal bed is important to me. Pillows are so much work!!!
We got the Dyson Animal last year and love it. My husband and I always run to get to the vacuum first. Have never enjoyed vacuuming more! 😆
Lol I’m loving all the vacuuming enthusiasts in the comments!
Great video…my hobby is vacuuming also! No broom in my house(finally decluttered that a few years ago)….rather vacuum instead!🧡

Hello Hallie how are you doing
My no. 1 habit is to ask myself while I am organizing, washing up, basically anytime I have to touch and move things: "Do I want/have to do this with this item again?" Like clean, put away, organize, dust, etc.
That is, when I feel any kind of, "Oh man..." feeling and get annoyed by the task at hand. Not when I just do it. That way I already got rid of a lot.
Another variaton of this is how long it takes me to become annoyed by the task, e.g. ironing for 30 minutes. Then I decide that I need to sort through things and declutter so I don't exceed that time limit if it isn't necessary.
Speaking of baskets: check out the baskets that have beautiful stitchings on them. :)
Functional decoration can also be beautiful appliances like e.g. a nice kettle.
Yesss. Such great tips, Christina. I’m with you on the Dyson. 💯 get it.
Me too - Dyson for the win! 😄
I literally feel the same since I’ve gotten my Dyson. I have high pile rugs in my condo, and I was HORRIFIED how much I picked up even though I vacuumed the week before with my old vacuum.
You have such a beautiful home! I aspire to get my dresser and desk drawers as neat as yours 😬
🥰🥰 they def don’t always stay that way but we do our best!
You have to find a system you like for organizing and then maintain it. That is the only way for it to stay nice all the time. Most people think you can clean or organize once and then it will stick. It is an ongoing process and that is what most people fail to recognize
I really like your blue couch!
Yes vacuuming is so good!!!
"Labeling things is fun" ☺ Great video and... I wish I had space for a dishwasher... until then, I'm the dishwasher
I can't relax in a cluttered or dirty house either, but sometimes I don't want to do the dishes, and I think I need to get rid of some old tee shirts so I can put away my casual clothes easier. Those are my main problem areas. I think pretty much everything else is similar to what is described here.
Vacuuming is one of my hobbies as well 😊😂 the Dyson is a game changer for sure!
I looooove vacuuming too 💜 it’s so satisfying!
Omg same hahaha!
me too!
🧹Great video! I'm spending the rest of the day organizing...
🧹I so appreciate your approach and that you don’t guilt people to be minimalist. I try to be very intentional about acquiring anything new but don’t see the need to get rid of what I’ve already got.
Thank you . Enjoy watching you as you motivate me. ❤️
🧹 How do you go about paper clutter? Mail, paper items to sort, etc.? That’s definitely my trouble area.
🧹🧹🧹🧹🧹🧹 Thanks Christina for another video with lots of good tips. Hope you are having a good day 😘
Another great video. Thanks for sharing.
Finally, someone said it about the pillows. So glad I'm not the only one who feels this way!! 😂😅

Loved your jeans video. Can I please ask which denim you are wearing while vacuuming? They fit so well on you and I love the loose-ish style.
Redone 90s high rise loose! I’d say a very similar alternative are the denim forum Joni jeans
A beautiful home. I enjoy watching here

Even if I leave all the cleaning tasks to the weekend it still takes so much less time
Hello from Ottawa. New subscriber here. Thanks for sharing your thoughts
💙💙💙, absolutely loving your content 😍
Christina, you mentioned the hair fall- a while back you were trying a new product to help with that (I can't recall what it was), just wondered if you were noticing a benefit/can recommend?
I was using the ordinary hair serum - I wasn’t too consistent with it. I increased the protein in my diet and that’s seemed to help the most tbh! I wanna try rosemary water tho
🧹Great video thanks!
Awesome video! Where did you get your couch?
