Frosty kayaking with a hot bite - Waikato river trout fishing

  • Here we explore one of the less fished areas of the Waikato river. While there was ice on the top of the ute that morning, I'm glad we got out as the cold temps and rain must have brought the fish on the bite. A total of four rainbows were landed for a nice feed, with another five or so bites on the kayak up (which would probably be hookups with a wet fly). Keen as to get back there. Mint session for sure.

Trout are such a beautiful and vibrant colored fish I love fly fishing for them on a dry fly like I have done in some of my videos and there’s not many species as beautiful as a trout!!

Cheers mate, here I was using a 1/8oz. But could get away with a 1/12oz if you sacrifice casting distance, or a 1/6oz if you wanted to go a bit deeper.
