    I just tried poling for the first time on sunday, and now i'm finding all your videos of tips. These are awesome! Nobody poles in the Ozarks anymore. Looks like i need to find myself some training :)

      I’m so glad you found us. I’m teaching classes all summer long. Go to 3MinutesMaineGuide.com. There is nothing like Poling a canoe. With a little instruction you can run a full size, fully loaded boat and have complete control all by yourself.

    It amazes me how you don't go arse over tea kettle into the drink. Obviously, there's more to this poling than meets the eye. Thanks for the video.

      Honestly you’ll flop like a fish inside the boat before you ever go over. Thanks for watching.

    Another great offering! Thanks! You should try to make some kind of strut out the back of your boat to mount your gopro on. With my setup one can almost capture the whole boat. The newer gopros (which I don't have) have stabilization in them to take out the jerkiness. (this one shows a shot of mount and the rest shows the camera view).

      Thanks for your input. I’ve tried. Sadly I’m short enough my chances of hitting in a rapid are pretty good. I’m experimenting with good quality camera glasses. We will see.

    I have been learning a lot from your videos, i just wish they were longer. I really like your raised canoe shelter, what do you think about incorporating a hammock, hanging it from under the canoe?

      I don’t think there is room for a hammock. It’s pretty “cozy” in there once it’s up. Thanks for watching.

    Very nicely done Lisa. Using a head mounted camera and standing in a bouncing and shifting canoe we can still see what you are wanting to show. Thanks for sharing.

      The hardest part is being a polar there’s no place you can mount a camera for a decent angle without whacking it with a pole during a rapid.

    In a previous video you mentioned in the comments that you used 303 on your plastic canoes. Which 303 do you use as there are several products out there. I enjoy all the topics you cover. Thank you.

      I use the “303 Aerospace Protectant Ultimate UV Protection. “That is what it says on the front label.

      It is Kevin. So hard to mount ANY camera where you can’t whack it with a 12 foot pole. Thanks for watching.

    Hi Lisa, I’m wondering if you could tell me - once you’ve made a push and the pole is angled behind you kind of like a rudder, is it usually dragging across the bottom or floating somewhere in the middle? Would it make much difference one way or the other? Love your videos, thanks a lot!

    • @3_Minutes_With_a_Maine_Guide
      @3_Minutes_With_a_Maine_Guide  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It depends. If I’ve just come down a steep drop, like in the video it’s dragging on the bottom because it’s slowing me down and with that angle trailing behind the boat , it can’t get caught on the bottom. If you’re poling as a means to go downstream it’s not touching the bottom as it’s trailing behind you as a rudder. But…the most important thing is…when you’re done reddening with the pole, the boat has momentum. It’s going in the direction you want it to when you lift that pole out of the water to take the next pole plant and push off the bottom again. As that poles trailing behind you and you take it out of the water. It’s got to pop straight up out of the water it can’t it has to recover through the air. It can’t recover through the water or it’s gonna steer the boat and make you go off course. so as it’s trailing through the water, put your hand on top of the part that’s in front of you the pole that’s in front of you and just push down on it so that the other hand that’s trailing will pop straight out of the water. I hope this helps. I really hope we could take a class together. Thanks for watching. Thanks for commenting.

    I thought your footage felt pretty exciting, maybe A bit clunky, but visceral. Great stuff!
