Embers Research: Northern Research Station

In the New Jersey Pine Barrens, USDA Forest Service scientists conduct research on the spread of embers during wildland fire. Partnering with scientists from the University of Edinburgh and the National Institute of Standards and Technology, with support from the New Jersey Forest Fire Service and the Department of Defense, the team gathered data from a prescribed burn of roughly 1,500 acres that will help fire managers understand how fire burns through real landscapes.
