Just done a blues video. I would imagine over half had the guitarist on the front cover. Nice selection James. Cheers, Chris

Great covers James. I would have also included a cool Ry Cooder on the Bop Till You Drop album

In the early 70’s Freddie King toured a lot. He was a wicked guitar player.

I saw Rick Derringer play live several years ago. Never really thought of him much, but he put on an amazing show.

He must be getting on a bit now!

In age, yes, but he's looked pretty well from where I was sitting in the back. He certainly still can play.

Hi James, I was brought here via Craig at The Spirit of Vinyl. Just subbed your channel. Really cool concept here... Loved the fact that you included some country albums here... not often we see a Merle Haggard album in the VC. Cheers from Canada, Darryl.

Hi James! Steve from All The World's A Stage brought me here. Subscribed! I will definitely take a shot at this thread. Lots of variety here in your video. Merle Haggard to King Sunny Ade to Waylon! Love it! I posted a response. Cheers!

James, I think that you hit upon a good thread idea. I just pulled the necessary albums and only need to make a video. I had already pulled some albums with the idea of a American primitive guitar Gimme Ten based upon a Fred (Bigstar1000) comment, but it quickly spiraled away from the strict confines of that concept. I could have used a few from that pile, but managed to find a few others for this thread. Thanks, Chris

    Great idea James.
2 Blues albums : Robert Cray - Strong Persuader and Big Bill Broonzy - Live ( one of the Amsterdam sets in 53, although its a line drawing does it count? )
Rock Blues : Eric Clapton - Backless and Rory Gallagher - Live in Europe
Pop stuff : Gerry Rafferty - City to City ( artwork by the late great John Byrne ) and Peter Frampton - Frampton Comes Alive ( how more 70s could this be? Answer: none more 70s, " come along Peter and bring that thing that makes your guitar go wah...wah wah wah wah wah ).
Prog : Steve Howe - Beginnings and Steve Hackett - Highly Strung
Art rock/ glam : Phil Manzenera - The Manzenera Collection and the coolest David Bowie - The Man Who Sold The World ( original pressing had androgynous Dave reclining on a Chaise wearing a dress but the one I got has rock god Davey high kicking his left leg up with his axe just visible as the neck and head shows over the leg ).
Liked your picks James. I had Lofgren but sold it on after I seen him on trampoline. Still have Jeff Beck Wired, Jan Hammer on keyboards 👍

Good suggestions Scott. I had Backless on my initial list but it ended up getting shunted off. Shame really as it's one of my favourite covers of all time!

The Neil Young one and Steve Miller one are iconic and a couple that I have. I have not seen that B.B. King album and I really like all the Charly reissues like the Freddy King one. That is indeed a cool cover with Waylon and his guitar.

Some great covers and albums James. Sunny Ade albums are hard to come by to be sure. I’ve only managed to find two in all my crate digging years. That Lofgrin album was well before his Springsteen gig. That’s him playing piano on Young’s Before the Gold Rush. Fun thread. Cheers.

Hi James, I hope you folks are well. Great video and idea! I would love to participate. However, packing with family for Ft. Lauderdale Florida trip. Our flight leaves at 630am tomorrow and then off to Bahamas 🇧🇸. When I get back, I will post one as well. Very cool, James. Great lot of 10, mate. I agree with your Waylon Jennings pick. Enjoy your summer. Cheers, Gordon.

Frank Zappa looks (and sounds) pretty cool on the cover of Shut Up and Play Your Guitar and The Man From Utopia too.

I couldn't think of 10 I owned, besides from Neil Young - Freedom, Richard Lloyd - Alchemy, Chris Poland - Metaltropolis, Bo Diddley - The Black Gladiator, Lou Reed -Transformer and Mistrial LPs... I must own a few others but it would take me too long to think 😂

    • @jamesgriffithsmusic
      @jamesgriffithsmusic  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Good suggestions Gavin. I forgot about Transformer and Mistrial, I have both of those. Also have a Bo Diddley LP with him sporting an axe on the cover...it's endless.

I enjoyed the video James, and I have posted my response. This was tougher than I thought it would be, but I think I chose ten that meet the criteria. I just now noticed that there is another blurred person in the background of one of the album covers I chose, so that may be a controversial selection (more than one person on the cover). lol Thanks for coming up with this thread!

Love "All American Boy" was my favorite album when I was 15 or so, back when it was current. However, the cover of his album Derringer Live is way cooler.
Hard to beat the cool factor of Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown's Pressure Cooker.
Lots of good Stephen Stills albums, I'll vote for his Stills Live as coolest.
J.J. Cale #8 is also great.

The Waylon Jennings cover IS cool, though it’s his hair that wins over the axe!

Hi John. I quite like the axe too! I was always a fan of acoustic guitars, ever since I was a kid in school and our teacher suddenly produced one.

Country artists do call their guitars axes. Chet Atkins does a version of Yakety Axe.
