"If I Had My Way I Would Tear this Building Down" is attributed by many to Blind Willie Johnson in 1928. Others say Reverend T. E. Weems wrote it around 1927. The song may have been around much longer. Old Longville Tom Adams learned it the Peter Paul and Mary way back in 1964 or 65 and sang it around campfires and such with friends.
