About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK and Escape to rural France to restore this beautiful building to its former glory.

"Everyone wanted to say hello to Patrick" . My heart exploded. Lord Patrick getting the recognition he has always deserved.
I love the idea of the pictures of people that once walked this earth and had a life, someday we will be the people in old photos.
All work and no play ..... isn't the way. Great that you have a day out brocante shopping -- a break from the work in the garden is truly needed. Enjoy.
Love brocante shopping videos.
Thanks John 🥰🥰
I love the fact that you bring in the portraits of people unknown to you or others...they are being remembered and honored...and are now a part of your growing family. Absolutely wonderful!! ❤😊
Thanks Rita 🥰🥰🥰
I so agree ❤
I do not find it creepy either!
I collect many old pictures to save them from being destroyed.
The moments in time that has been preserved, celebrations of joy…is worth it to me.
Just what I was going to say!!❤
So true!! I find it very sad when I see boxes of older pictures that possibly go unsold & head to a dump. So happy to see you claim what you can use.
I can't believe ash had a smile on his face about brocant shopping, love what you got
You should take a black and white pic of your Mom and Dad in vintage clothing and put them in the frames as a honor for all their help!
I think you should get Tracy to sit for a portrait for a beautiful frame….
Love the red marble pieces! Glad you were considerate of Patrick's little legs and the hot pavement. Happy Mother's Day to Tracey! 🥰
It would be beautiful to have the canopy's on the tower restored Painted with new Glass the new coach lamps . It would bring back the opulence of the Victorian era to the chateau entrance
Thank you 🙏 😊
I think they're teasing us, so many were asking when they'd be done Ash got a little miffed. lol
In the US, today is Mother's Day. So, Happy Mother's Day Tracey!
Thank you 🙏☺️
Unbelievable that you were able to get the clock and the two candelabras for under $100. Absolutely stunning! I cannot wait to see what they look like when you get done doing your magic to them. The new lights for outside are also perfect. Of course white with gold to match the rest of the lighting outside. I'm so glad you guys went out and had fun. Debbie
I like old pictures of people long gone. I love to imagine their story. So I agree. It honors them and keeps their spirit alive.
Here is something similar. I collect old silverware and it is frequently monogrammed. I ask guests to read whose silver they're using and make-up a story. Some pieces are especially fun, e.g., "from grandma to Hattie", "Mr. Wm. Gushee", "Christmas 1886", etc. Hope you enjoy this and share the belief it keeps their spirits alive if only for a moment.
Ash’s smiley , cheeky face always makes my heart happy 😊
You're becoming professional treasure hunters! Well done!
Ash, i have never seen you shopping at a Brocante before looking so happy and in the spirit of things... must be all the beer and sausages you found ❤
Absolutely Kathy 😂😂🥰
Agree with you on the pictures, they're part of history and in keeping with the chateau 🥰
Thanks Cazzie 🥰
I love hanging up old photos of people I don’t know… some are so beautiful and I think it’s a lovely way to honor their lives. Plus, you can make up whatever story you’d like to go with them!
I love that you're rescuing old portraits of people. I always feel sad seeing them at estate sales and wonder how families can part with their ancestors. You are giving them new life and 'personalizing' your chateau too. I think the ones you've already restored and hung on the walls look wonderful. The clock/candelabra set is just stunningly beautiful, and the decorative brackets for the outside lanterns/lights will look sooooo good. Great finds, lads.
At 3:12 I’m yelling “Buy the lamp
Terry I love it!!” Looked like tulips hanging down.
My husband(then boyfriend) & I did a 8 day tour of England & Scotland in 2000. Got my engagement ring in Edinburgh. Soon as we rode into the country side, I felt like I was home. Stayed at a wonderful English manor house one night.(I can’t remember which one or where)I’m from Pennsylvania(Amish, PA Dutch country) you have to remember we don’t have buildings that are 400 years old like the old country. I will say, I could have been a high lander in a previous life. All the border collies herding sheep inside rock walls, lavender on the rolling hills…I cried when I had to leave.
You had some amazing finds!! The clocks are glorious!!
Good shopping trip, scored some great finds on your trip. Patrick made out like a bandit with all the attention and pampering. ❤
The trick, I think, with having old portraits of people you don't know is to craft a history for them. Sure, it won't be their real story, but it will still bring them to life.
Thanks for taking us along antiquing! Happy Mother’s Day to Tracy! It is celebrated here in the U.S. today. I know it was celebrated the UK back in March. I do not think it is creepy at all to buy antique photos of strangers!! I agree with Ash. Ironically today, I bought some Victorian studio cards at a thrift store. I wanted to keep them/family together. I think it is a way of honoring these past lives. The cashier thought it was strange. I didn’t agree with her at all and kindly told her so. Lol One of my favorite photos I have own, for a very long time, is of an older Victorian woman wearing only a piano shawl wrapped around her. Beauty at any age! Also, I have spent the previous three days at a scrapbooking retreat. I was working on my late Grandmother’s album. I have 6 generations to put into albums. It’s a labor of love. Hopefully, the albums will be appreciated in the future, since the family members have been identified and are artfully displayed and not end up in a thrift store, discarded and with no names attached. 😊
Agree with Ash - love old paintings and photos of people so lovely to see them find another home, What a fabulous day out
I would like to comment about your brocante days. I have been to countless antique shops, flea markets, garage sales to last a life time. Until now. Seeing the brocantes through your eyes has lifted my blasé soul to wanting to go explore again. Yes, you have a vision, but excite over unexpected finds. I want to have that again. As always, thank you for your video, sharing your joys and hard work.
It's really nice to see you having a day out, relaxing, in the sun. A day out in the sunshine 😊 good for the body and the soul
. Isn't it wonderful when you and your mate get so enthusiastic about the same things❤❤❤
It is! ❤️Thank you 🙏☺️
Hi everyone,Nothing wrong with having a day off, especially when shopping for antiques! You found some amazing pieces 👌
I was hoping you were going to buy the gorgeous birdbath with the little birds sat on top !
Take care lots of love 🥰💕
Ash, when you got back, your face was a picture of happiness. I can see how happy you are😊. It's great, you two x.
😊 thank you Clare 🥰🥰
@@chateaudelalacelle Bless you xxx.
Will not make the premier today. Sorry. It is Mother’s Day here in Canada. So family brunch at the time your vlog drops.
Just want to wish Tracy and all the Moms here in the chat a wonderful day, whether it is Mother’s Day there or not. Thank you for all you do for your two and four legged babies. 💕
Happy Mother’s Day Noreen 🥰
@@chateaudelalacelle 💕
Sorry we couldn’t make the premiere. We had guests here for a dinner party for the fountain. Loved the shopping vlog. ❤❤🥰😘
It’s not a problem at all, I thought you have guests over, hope you are all ok 🥰🥰🥰
I find it's always so pleasing to get much needed bargains to enhance your living spaces. You always manage to do well because you always have a vision for what you need and want. The outdoor sconces will be perfect when they are up in place because they fit the space so well.
Oh, man! You guys are going to be inundated with advice about how important it is to finish the canopies. LOL!!!!!!
People watch to many scary movies with the eyes following you in the portraits. I love the picture's, I'd be proud to have my picture hung again for another lifetime. Fantastic finds especially the clock and candelabra's and the outside fixtures. 😊
I imagine that couple in the pictures would be delighted to have a place in your beautiful chateau!
My favorites are the pictures of Francois and Jeannette la Fontaine. They never looked lovelier. 😊
Thanks Jean 🥰
I love the thought of hanging old picture frames with unknown people in them. Especially at your chateau. I feel like you're bringing them back to life again.
What a fun day, Gents. Glad you took a break and got out for some fun... and new treasures for the chateau. I howled when you said you had decided to leave the canopies "as is" when testing the brackets for the tower lamps... a funny cheeky dig to all the thousands of comments of when you were going to do them up. Perfect. When are you doing them up? :)
Happy Mother's day to Tracy from the USA
Of course Patrick was a hit! ❤ The candelabra and clock are amazing - what a bargain. A gentle word of advice: Ash, Terry, and Tracy - you are all quite fair skinned (and lovely!!!). Please wear hats and sunglasses when you are working outdoors to prevent skin cancer and damage to your beautiful eyes. (They are beautiful even without Ash's eyeliner ❤) And don't forget the SPF sun cream any time you are outdoors. Your faces will thank you. You don't want to look wizened and troll-like in your 50s.🙃
I love the pictures of the old couple.🤠
Thanks Lynn 🥰
I don’t find the pictures creepy at all, they are beautiful! The other things you found were wonderful finds!
Anxious to see the red marble pieces restored. Great finds all!
You and me both! 🥰
Hello, Oh how I wish your video didn't end LOL. I love when you guys go to one these huge yard sales. I get to see things I would never get to see where I live. So Thank You for giving me 20 minutes of such great enjoyment. I live in North central Wa. St., so nothing like that happens like that here. Take Care
I walked past you two I nearly stopped to say hello, but I thought you would be sick of people saying hello. It was a good vide.
Happy mother's Day to your wonderful and energetic mother Tracey!! 🥰🥰🥰And to all the most loving mothers in world...Happy mothers Day!! Watching from the Philippines....
Just an idea, but if you don't put glass in or canvas on the awnings either side of the tower. You could grow a flowering vine up to them or climbing roses or wisteria on the awning frame.
My husband found a photograph of WWl army officer, we kept it for years because we both felt he deserved to have a home. Sadly we lost him when our house was flooded.
I’ve always thought it was sad to see old photos because they are pictures of someone’s ancestors and their memory is lost to the ones that came after them.Thank you Ash for helping me reframe (no pun intended )the thought that you’re keeping their memory alive even though you don’t know who they are. The people in the photographs loved, laughed and wept like all of us. They are us.
A nbeautiful day for brocante treasure hunting!!! 🥰🎶❤️🎶🌻🌻🌻🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🏰🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷
Be careful with Patrick's paw pads on asphalt roads on hot days; those roads heat up quickly and can blister his feet! He may not like wearing shoes, but it would protect his paws on hot streets. Love the set with the red marble, and those picture frames and photos are gorgeous! Looks like a very successful brocante venture! I want to see the canopies done; they'll keep the rain off someone while they're waiting at the door. And they'd be a lovely, colorful accent on the front of the chateau. A lovely blue-and-white or green-and-white stripe fabric would look fantastic on them!
🐾🐾 I wish I could be there to love on Lord Patrick. When out in heat I make sure to check the pads of fur babies paws and add moisturizer to soothe them after contact with hot walkways. I would love to see him wear little boots/shoes for protection 🐾🐾
Don’t listen to ppl saying it’s creepy to hang portraits! I do the same thing! I have pics like that hanging in our house(built 1898) Our surname is Francis(hubby-French) I’m English-German but have antique Spanish portraits hanging. My husband tells ppl they’re our late ancestors.😂
I really don't mind the old pictures, the man and woman are very attractive. Some ugly ones give me the creeps. I like yours, though, and Ash, I agree with you. Someone sat for a long time for them. My favorite finds are the brackets for the lights out front and the statue with the clock, I immediately said, "Wow, then you brought out the candelabra, and then another one! That is when I did a happy dance for you. The whole set is stunning. Paula will do a great job on them. I was thinking the red room too. I look forward to seeing them in there. You both gor lovely tans already. I bet Patrick loved the attention. Bless him. I am glad you got him out of the heat. You could buy a covering for your cart like Selmar has. They work well, too. I can see gold leafing Patrick's cart!! LOL, I was so glad to see you both out enjoying the vid grenier. Happy Mother's Day to Tracy from Canada. Here it was Mother's Day. ❤❤❤
That beautiful tiny desk would be great in a guest suite with lalacelle postcards home.
How nice it would be for portraits of all of you in vintage clothing well framed and hung around the Chateau amongst the historical ones you just bought.
I was thinking the same thing.
When you buy a portrait, you should make up hilarious stories about them being a long lost relatives from the past. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I think if you hire a photographer, and everyone at the chateau dressed in period costumes, you can replace all the photos, through out the chateau! 😊❤
Thank you 🙏☺️
Love the man’s mustache in the picture. He’s rocking it 😂
I have always acquired antique pictures of people I don't know. When people come to my home and ask who they are, I say, "these are my instant ancestors. They always get a chuckle!
What a great haul!! Especially the set of candelabra and statue-with-clock. And to have the key, etc as well. A real stroke of luck. They will all look superb once you do your magic.
Your choice of music makes looking at these fabulous antiques even more wonderful. Great purchases!
You both should be very proud, you’ve worked so hard looks beautiful Ann 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧❤️❤️❤️
Happy Mother's Day TRACY from the USA💐
Wow! I just realized I smile all the way through your vlogs, but this time the smile was so big that my face hurt, so I noticed! That’s lots of walking for your dear little Patrick, he’s such a cutie! Loved the brocante and all the details you got to share! I adore antiques, especially vintage postcards with personal sentiment in hand written notes; I have photo ones that go back over 130 years and feel the same when I’m saving something special from someone’s past. Love the marble clock with the gorgeous statue! Thank you for taking us along with you guys…on the much need break from you garden creation!
I don’t find old pictures creepy. I agree that it’s keeping them alive. I’d love to know their stories.
So many cool things! Much better than the things that you would find around here! Those portraits are cool! I’m 50 and have no idea what my great grandmother even looked like because my dad didn’t have any photos of his grandmother who was suppose to have been beautiful
@6.32 that fountain would look good in your garden centre circle ⭕️
Whoa! The marble mantle set is sensational! Well spotted! I look forward to seeing it cleaned up and in her new home!
You both remind me of my mother who was the queen of jumble sales, fetes etc. I would see the tat, she would zoom in on the bargains 😊
You won't convince me. I find the portraits of the couple in the 400 suite and the two you brought today interesting but creepy. I am glad I don't have to sleep in a bedroom with them staring at me.
Terri. The canopies are exquisite. Would you consider restoring? It is a unique feature of your chateau and I believe would add such beauty and grace. ❤. (You brought it up 😉)
I am the kind of person that would make up stories about the people in the photos, as if they were family. No one visiting would know otherwise, unless you confessed. That would make them less creepy. It is all psychological anyway.
I love the exterior light brackets. They are perfect for these entrances.
I know you want to keep the canopies above the doors to remain in their current state, but I think that would make them look out of place with these brackets when they are restored and the railings that are already restored. If it was my chateau, I would paint all the iron work black and gold of the Napoleonic era, and replace the missing glass of the canopy, which offers some shelter from the rain at the door. That was their purpose, and I feel that should be restored.
Everything you found was beautiful. The pictures are lovely!! Not creepy at all.
Everything you found is fabulous especially the clock and candle holders !! So glad you both took a well deserved break!!😊
Thanks so much! 😊
The pictures could be people who may have visited the chateau at one stage it’s nice to imagine they may have
Europe has so many antiques available for sale. Do these come from the ruins of other chateaus? Some of the pieces are extremely old and over 300 years old and valuable. I am glad that people are buying and restoring them though.
Great haul you two (three with Patrick!). Always nice to see you two do something fun together. Thanks for taking us along!
I have a few old photos that are absolutely beautiful and I called an instant relatives. Theyl still can be used appreciated and celebrated. Thank you for preserving them. Here in the United States we have a website called Dead Fred and people post pictures for other people looking for relative.
Thank you for preserving them. There's a chance now that you have aired them on TH-cam they might find their relative.
Had you considered portraits of your own ancestors? It is your own lines that are the architects of the Chateau revival and it's continuing history. I think old photos are fascinating.
Hello Patrick, and Happy Mother's Day to Tracy.
You can get a photographer, to make black and white photographs of you two or your mother and put the originals under those already in the frame. Put yours over the pictures originals in the frames. Classy
You can spray some white rustoleum on the canopies to kill the rust and make them white.
You got some lovely things. I’d like to walk around there some day. Ash you look as if you’ve had a brilliant day. You look on a high❤. Has Tracy had a well deserved day off. She sure deserves one Great day out 😊❤❤🇬🇧🇬🇧
Good to see you both having a day off
Thank you 🙏☺️
As long as you keep old photos out of bedrooms and areas where people will try to relax, it's could be OK. I have my own experience with old photos of my grandparents in my bedroom. I moved them out after sleepless nights and bad dreams. A friend of mine had the same experience and she suggested to move pictures. I put them back into a photo album, After that everything got back to normal. If you got comments like that, it means that it's possible. And it doesn't matter( with all my respect) what do you think and feel about it. But usually people prefer to learn from their own experience(he-he).
I really like the chateau metal outdoor lights bravo !
Looking forward to seeing the clock and candelabras after you have restored them. They are going to be so pretty.
Beautiful finds ! A much deserved day off !Love to all.❤️
Thank you 🙏☺️
The statue on the antique horloge de cheminee is Pallas Athene - lifting up Godess Nike, the victorious...
Don’t worry about the pictures. They’re wonderful and fun to make up stories about. The brackets are great and will look good with the restored canopies. The entrances will really sparkle with all the glass back in place.
You are both brilliant and always makes us smile. Eileen and Brian x
Ash is a little sunburned too.
Just watching this from the other side of the ocean and feeling envious of the great market event! You found some perfect pieces for the rooms. Thanks for an interesting programme.
I don’t find it creepy at all. Those portraits are wonderful and the people in them should be admired and respected. You purchased many beautiful pieces. I love everything. The three piece set for under 100 euros is amazing. xx
The garniture set with red marble will be lovely, especially if you can apply new gilding to the metal. Nice find!
Brilliant congratulations on getting a loverly lot of beautiful
Item's 👍🤗🍻🍻👍🤗
Love Sue❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
The mantle clock and candelabras! Gorgeous! I'd totally gild them. I think it's cool to rescue the photos with the gorgeous frames! What a way to honor those people.
What a fun day. I would have loved to have been there. So many treasures. Great finds Terry and Ash.
I agree with Ash! Love the frames and the pictures ❤
All your purchases were great! Sad to see those pictures ens up in a flea market, they were somebody's family. We see that in the States all the time, too.
I am always amazed at the treasures you find at bargain prices! Sooo happy for you. Can’t wait to see everything fixed up and in its proper place.
Rock on!!
