Blue was lonely and wanted to understand how love felt. The moment blue had glimpses of those memories they felt complete and wanted pink to feel just as complete with each other. How we all feel about love in some shape or form we are connected through those memories and with that love for each other we feel complete.
I think it's about 2 people falling out of love, losing interest but being reluctant to leave the relationship because of the memories shared. However in a sense, they are just encaged and trapped inside this together. It's subjective to call it a good or a bad thing.
To me it seemed more like Blue had memories from another life and a person he missed from it. And he gathered all his memories and feelings about this person to implant them in a kind of reincarnation of a new "person" and thus resurrect his old life. In the end, Blue made Pink into the person he knew then, who could no longer be with him. Now to no longer be alone. However, the beginning with the question of how true love feels, then does not fit. Whereby...maybe he wanted to make sure that the person at that time was really his true love in order not to miss the potential chance for a "new" love.

I believe that you found a soulmate but mayyyybe your "timing" is not right.. but either way, only by feeling that kind of selfless love makes you complete with yourself in a way, even if it's just as a memory :)
