    I was so confused when I got my first machine ever. The Silhouette Cameo 3, I love it but I'm also a visual learner. All I've done up to this point is make simple decals. today I watched a video to learn how to do an offset. I didn't quite do it the way she did in the video but I did it. Yay me! I am so happy I found you and this channel. I want to learn everything I can do with my machine. And I want to eventually have it work for me financially. Love it when you don't talk so fast and I can keep up. Thanks again, great video.

    Not sure if I can pull this off. I am going to get a used one of these and see if I can use this to make signs for my properties. If it works out I will buy a new one with all the features that I want. I will go with the Silhouette brand though and not some no name machine as they seem to be reliable and have readily available software, parts, and supplies from what I have found thus far, which I am guessing will give me the best chance of success and sustainability.

    Hi there. Can you use the transfer tape with htv or only with sticker vinyl and can you please tell me what is the difference between application tape and transfer tape is?

    • @KellyWayment
      @KellyWayment 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Transfer tape for vinyl is usually different than transfer tape for heat transfer material. (With HTV it usually comes already applied to its transfer backing or the necessary transfer tape comes in the package with the HTV.) I believe application tape is probably just another term for transfer tape. Same thing, as far as I know.

    How durable is this material once its on 3D objects? Does it peel or scrape off easily? Could it have commercial applications for example labeling product bottles?

    • @KellyWayment
      @KellyWayment 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The durability of your vinyl application has a lot to do with the surface it is applied to. If the surface is completely slick and smooth, the vinyl will last longer than if it is applied to a surface with some texture to it. Vinyl is great for labeling bottles.

    Hi, I did a first cut with my brand new cameo 4 and it worked, now I am trying to do a long page of words and using black matte, but it won't allow me to register, I think the black matte is the reason as it cannot pick up any registration marks..? Any tips for fix the issue?

    • @KellyWayment

      Do not turn on registration marks when cutting vinyl. (The software registration marks are only for use when you are printing from Silhouette Studio and then cutting.)

    • @KellyWayment
      @KellyWayment 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you need to be careful when washing cups with vinyl and do not expect it to last forever. You can use heat transfer vinyl on a mug, but it gets tricky to apply unless you have a mug press.

  • @barbhayes5613

    This is a great jumping-off point for me. A few issues though. The two-color vinyl sticker demo (around 24 minutes in) would have been easier to follow if one of the layers had not been white vinyl. It's really hard to see exactly what you're doing with that. Also, why are you making your own registration marks and not using the software registration marks?

    • @KellyWayment
      @KellyWayment 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry about the white on white. Software registration marks are for printed projects. Since this is adhesive vinyl and not for printing, I created my own registration marks to be used in a different way. They're used for physical placement instead of for use with the machine's optical eye.

  • @joaotoscano

    Very helpful video - so far the best I’ve seen of dozens on web!! thank you very much - most of your information can be handed over with a Cameo 4 is this correct?
    I’ve seen that using the roll glossy vinyl you don’t use the matte. So the matte is most used to help the grip of smaller sizes?
    How can we define about the level of pressure, speed and adjustment of the blade? Should we leave everything by default or we adjust accordingly.
    Is also there need of special transfer tape depending of the vinyl we’re using or applying in different products? For e.g. on a mug or t-shirt is that the same transfer tape?
    I also. Notice you use almost for everything glossy Vinyl - do you recommend to use it for everything?
    About the layering part - what about if I have for example a logo where the colors overlap each other. How can that be adjusted when I need to print them?
    As I can see here in your example there’s no overlap of content.
    By any chance you have a video for stickers?

    • @KellyWayment
      @KellyWayment 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, most of this is the same for the Cameo 4 (but the Cameo 4 has a built-in roll feeder).
      Glossy vinyl and matte vinyl are basically the same except for the strength of the adhesive (and the glossy or matte finish). You can generally use the same cut settings for either one. The glossy vinyl has a stronger adhesive, so I prefer glossy over matte for most uses, but that's personal preference.
      Start with the default pressure, speed, and blade depth...then make test cuts to see if you need to adjust from there.
      You can use the same type of transfer tape for all forms of adhesive vinyl, but for something like a T-shirt you would use heat transfer vinyl, which comes with its own transfer liner. See this video on Heat Transfer Essentials. th-cam.com/video/eaFvNQYhM3k/w-d-xo.html
      See my note about glossy vinyl above. Matte is good if you want to remove it sooner (like on walls).
      You can layer vinyl layers directly on top of each other because they are so thin. Or use the Subtract function to remove parts of the design that are covered by other parts of the design.
      You'll want to use Print & Cut for stickers. See my video on Print & Cut Perfection. th-cam.com/video/SJwvzf5q16Y/w-d-xo.html
      Good luck!

    • @KellyWayment
      @KellyWayment 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      All of my videos work with the standard edition of Silhouette Studio unless I specifically point out certain features that require an upgrade like Designer Edition or Business Edition. Don't let that stop you!

  • @jentours
    @jentours 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hmm I am totally new to this and was thinking of venturing into this as well..How do we control the strength of the cutter? Wouldn't it cut thru the mat or leave cut markings on it after each work? If the cut strength can be adjusted, can the Sihouette machine emboss patterns on paper surfaces such as on card stock? Thank you.

    • @KellyWayment
      @KellyWayment 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You should use default settings to cut your materials, and adjust the force and blade depth as necessary, based on test cuts of your material. It won't cut through the mat at the correct settings, although it does leave a residual mark that is not harmful to your mat. After you've cut a lot of projects you'll have ghost traces of all those cut jobs on your mat, which is completely normal. If you want to have a machine that does embossing, you'd want to look into the Silhouette Curio, which is different from the Cameo. It does not emboss card stock as it needs a softer material like Score & Emboss paper.

    Is the transfert paper reusable if I want to make a serie of the same vinyl design to stick on several bottles for exemple ? Instead of cutting one piece for each vinyl (to avoid wasting too much)

    • @KellyWayment
      @KellyWayment 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely! Use the same piece of transfer tape until it gets too dirty or is no longer sticky enough for picking up and transferring designs.

  • @apaulinhasm
    @apaulinhasm 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    great class! one question, when applying to a mug, is there the need of something to finish it? for example, i've seen some people baking the mug for the desing "stick" better... is that needed with vinyl? or just when you do it with a pen? and can the mug with the vinyl go to the microwave or dishwasher? thanks!

    • @KellyWayment
      @KellyWayment 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I personally just use permanent (glossy) vinyl on a mug and do not finish it. Hand washing is recommended, but I've got some mugs that have been through the dishwasher many times and it still sticks. I believe there is a dishwasher-specific mod podge if you want to add a finishing layer. Mugs with vinyl can be microwaved, as far as I know. (I do it.)

    Hi! Can silhouette curio work with adhesive vinyl?

    • @KellyWayment
      @KellyWayment 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it can. You would use the full platforms to equal 6 and use the grid cutting mat as the top platform. Place your vinyl on the cutting mat, as it won't feed directly into the Curio. Test your settings, as well, because with a material that thin there can be some variation between the Cameo cut settings and Curio cut settings.

  • @pequodexpress

    Don't the vinyl decals wash off mugs and bottles easily, or am I missing something?

    • @KellyWayment
      @KellyWayment 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you use permanent vinyl, let it sit for 24 hours before first washing, and then wash by hand, you should be able to keep those designs on your mugs for a long time! They are not permanent for years and years, but they will last through multiple washings with care.

    • @KellyWayment

      No, regular vinyl phrases and stencils from vinyl with phrases do not need to be mirrored. You typically mirror heat transfer material, but do not mirror adhesive vinyl.

    Hello! I liked the video, I have a question, how do I have to make the design of a phrase to stick it with vinyl in a bottle of wine (thinking that I want to go around the phrase around the bottle)

    • @KellyWayment
      @KellyWayment 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Make sure the bottle is flat where you will be applying it, for best results. If it's a phrase that will wrap all the way around, use the same techniques shown several times in the video, but start applying with transfer tape on one side (left or right end) and press it down from one end to the other before removing the transfer tape.

      The material in this video is adhesive vinyl. You can start here with glossy vinyl, then don't forget to also buy transfer tape. www.silhouetteamerica.com/shop/materials/vinyl-glossy-12

    using white vinil as an example was a terrible idea, btw... but thanks for posting these, is actually very helpful to someone like me who never worked with it before

    I just got my silhouette cameo 3 and I am so excited to try these out. However, the autoblade can’t seem to cut out my cardstock board which is around 300 gsm. Any help?

    • @KellyWayment
      @KellyWayment 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to adjust your blade settings to cut thicker cardstock. I'm not sure what setting to try for 300 gsm, but possibly the coverstock setting? If you need help, you can contact Silhouette Support. www.silhouetteamerica.com/contact

    Hi. Could I use a mirror image of a design and not have to use the transfer tape? Thank you for this video!

    • @KellyWayment
      @KellyWayment 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The reason you use the transfer tape is to keep all the cutout pieces together, otherwise you would be hand-placing each piece. Mirroring wouldn't help with that.

      Hi Arlyne! Yes! It can cut cardstock, paper, sticker papers, vinyl, heat transfer, vellum, and more! :)

    Are the mugs washable with the vinyl on it? Doesn't it need to 'heat' first after applying the vinyl? Great video!

    • @KellyWayment
      @KellyWayment 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hand wash my mugs with vinyl on them. You don't need to heat it, but it will probably stay best if you let it sit 24 hours before using or washing. Don't expect vinyl on mugs to last forever! :)

    Ya''ll had to use white vinyl as the sample. You know we can't see the design that was cut. Bad color to use on camera. But I did learn some basics.

    how many times can you use your transfer tape? tnx

    • @KellyWayment
      @KellyWayment 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Use transfer tape over and over until it gets too dirty or otherwise unusable. I've got some I've used 5-10 times.

    The portait2 cuts up top what size compare to the cameo3?

    • @juliecoralie
      @juliecoralie 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      And how long?

    • @KellyWayment
      @KellyWayment 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Portrait 2 cuts up to 8 inches wide and 12 inches long on the mat. Longer, if you are cutting vinyl or heat transfer straight from the roll with no mat.

    How long do the blades last roughly ?

    • @KellyWayment
      @KellyWayment 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My blades tend to last 3-6 months, depending on what I'm cutting. Rough materials (lots of cardstock or chipboard) will wear down a blade faster than mostly vinyl.

    Why do you have to add the lines?

    • @KellyWayment
      @KellyWayment 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lines help with weeding. It's easier to remove small sections of sticky vinyl rather than large sections all at once.

    Сколько смотрю подобное и не понимаю зачем клеить например на кружку. это же не практично. отвалится после мытья. потом клиент придёт и скажет что я сделал ему полное г**** которое отвалилось.
