It is true that a baby cannot wait 10 months in order to get a father, but a man should not be made to pay for a baby for 10 months that is not his son. It goes both ways. Paternity tests should be offered at birth at the hospital if the alleged father asks for it.
If the father did pay they would be reimbursed if they sued for it if the mother didn’t willingly give it to him.
You can petition the courts for a paternity test if you really think the child isn't yours. However some men won't do that because they know the child is theirs and are running from child support and responsibility (worse are the dudes with multiple kids doing this). Other men don't want to establish paternity because they're really running from child support because they think child support is what Nick Cannon likely pays for his 'baseball team' when in reality its pennies in comparison to how much it really costs to raise a child who doesn't have health issues.
Honestly, there should be a database with the child has an ID number (patients have these in hospitals anyways) so the father can establish paternity but the mother can also know if he pings for having other children that she doesn't know about. This way everything is on the table and deadbeats who are running around will be less likely to trick people. It's a lot harder for a woman to "trick" a man into thinking she doesn't have other kids unless she had a drug or housing situation where her child lives with family members but even then that child will likely be around or acknowledged by her family. It takes a lot for a woman to hide previous children than for a man.
