    Sad decline, but we can only blame the government for not investing in the forces

    How did it come to this? Tons and tons of money wasted on failed procurement/upgrade projects, that's how.
    Wasting 4 bn pounds on the Nimrod 2000 only to cancel the program at the last moment
    Buying 5 sets of radars for only 3 E-7 Wedgetails to replace 7 E3D AWACs.
    Building type 45 destroyers with engines that didn't work in hot weather, that are still being replaced.
    Buying over 100 Bronco vehicles from Singapore for Afghanistan because their Vikings were too flimsy, only to dump the Broncos right after leaving Afghanistan.
    Leaving the Boxer program after 10 years of development, only to end up buying the boxer design from Germany 15 years after that
    The AJAX is supposed to be based on an existing IFV, how could someone improve it until it was too noisy and vibrating too much to be used?
    Goodness knows how much money was wasted on the AS-90 Braveheart and Warrior CSP Upgrades, only for them to be cancelled.
    And always there is never anyone to blame, so the debacles happen over and over again.

      @andrewflindall9048 Whole swathes of capabilities abandoned to others in order to integrate into a euro army .
      REME integrated into the Bundeswehr.
      Yes the disassembly of the British armed forces to make it a regional component of the EU.
      Brexit never happened in military or security terms.
      It was off the table in discussions.

    Politicians get used to inventing and raising taxes as well as cutting budgets. The "Peace dividend" was like heroin to a politician looking for savings.

    How did the British Empire lose its former glory? Huh? The British Empire no longer exists and hasn’t done so for decades.

    • @poil8351
      @poil8351 หลายเดือนก่อน

      not really they kept the imperial mindset but lost rationally and got hooked on the stupid trickle down economy mumbo-jumbo which gave the world austerity which unfortunately trickled into military.
      also an ever growing obsession with making the every bit of military technology high tech and trying to reinvent the wheel and replacing soldiers with technology has led to ridiculously overpriced and underperforming equipment.
      the british could proabbly never pull off a falklands style operation today and the had enough issues in 1982.

    I thought it would be common sense not to recruit more troops if we can barely equip the ones we've got

  • @Zaephrax
    @Zaephrax หลายเดือนก่อน

    Their recruitment efforts are failing because they are focusing too much on diversity and inclusion: minorities are minorities, and if you focus on recruiting them then the majority won't be interested, its simple statistics. The armed forces should focus on hiring people who want to defend their country and achieve the set standards, not minorities for the sole reason of them being minorities. D&I is a joke, by focusing on it, they are inadvertently discriminating against many who don't fit their ethnic quotas. At the end of the day if we go to war, the enemy isn't going to look at us and go "oh look at how many minorities were given a chance, we can't invade them because they're too nice!"

    Agree with most of what was said, but definitely not the part about the Russians having a better navy.
    Our subs don’t explode, we have two working aircraft carriers and the Royal Navy has never been defeated at sea by a country without a navy!

      the russian navy is not in good shape. the royal navy has different problems,not enough peroanal to proabbly crew vessels which is a bjg problem globally. also the two aircraft carriers are not that great and a likely less effective than when the royal navy had harriers back in the falklands.

    • @kallumcoekin3401
      @kallumcoekin3401 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@poil8351 that’s not true, the new aircraft Carriers are some of the best in the world. And we now have f-35s too so I mean come on. I think if the UK were to enter a conflict people would be genuinely surprised with how well the arm forces could operate.

    • @poil8351
      @poil8351 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @kallumcoekin3401 they have had some issues including a serious fire on one of them. and the f35 is a rather very questionable aircraft compared to the sea harriers which will not perfect certainly gave a good account for themselves over the falklands. the f35 is still very untested in proper battlefield conditions.
      I don't doubt the quality of the sas and the sbs and other special forces. they are battle tested and well trained.

    • @kallumcoekin3401
      @kallumcoekin3401 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@poil8351 yes they’ve had a few issues, but I mean bloody US navy ships have that too. If anything finding the issues now is good. And yeah the special forces are good, but realistically any next conflict we take part in will be fought with Allie’s. So our more conventional troops like the army and royal marines, who are some of if not the best soldiers in the world, will still be relevant on the battlefield.

    Ok, the Challenger 3 will most certainly NOT be outdated before it comes online. It doesn't have to beat the Abrahms (even though it already beats the current one) it only has to beat the Russians. The T-14 Armata has turned out to be a paper tiger and the T-90s aren't even a match for the Challenger 2 so... Also the Russian navy is shite...pure and simple. Does the UK need to up their game in defense spending? Absolutely...but this video isn't entirely accurate at all.
