I started buying BTC around 2021 and shortly after saw a negative P&L. I haven’t sold any and since 2021, my P&L is +167% and I still haven’t sold.

BTC is too slow and too expensive to transact with. There are many fast solutions that are instant and free (or almost free to transact with) like XLM, XDC, XRP, FLR and others.

You made a small mistake in the math, Mark. While it's true that 21 million BTC will ever be mined, about 5-7 million BTC are lost forever and won't be circulated again. This leaves us with roughly 14-15 million BTC that can be traded and stored. Given this, the value of BTC by 2050 could be even higher than anticipated, as the effective supply is much lower. This scarcity factor significantly impacts Bitcoin's potential future value.

I presume they are valuing it based on rarity. Like gold has virtually no utility either, except that high maintenance people like the look of it.
Mark, great video covering really valid fundamental concepts, but I think you need to at the very least change the title of the video because your math is off by six orders of magnitude - if all global assets were pegged to BTC, one BTC would be worth $42M, not $42B. It’s no big deal - it was just a slip of a decimal point - we all understand, and it doesn’t negate the important point you were making in the video!

Fiat is not like btc. Fiat is useful as a medium of exchange. Btc like gold or art or real estate is useful as a store of value.

I know everyone divides the number by 21 mil but the more realistic circulating bitcoin is probably closer to 17 mil imo.

Satoshis wallet has 1 million. That will never be moved into market. Then there's a few hundred thousand bitcoins that are lost forever. So the REAL liquid amount after all bitcoin is mined is between 19 & 20 million

Does he mean $43M?
Hey Mark, thanks so much for this video. I've been invested in BTC since 2017 and I was missing one piece to my thesis and that was "probability" as you perfectly outlined.
Where I was stuck is that I was saying: "ok, maybe it's a store of value, but what if only a few people agree that it's a store of value (as it is now) and others never see it."
What I was missing was "probability". And you lay it out perfectly in your Amsterdam talk "If not Bitcoin, then what?"
The "then what" could only be "something that's not invented yet", among assets that exist today, BTC is it. As such, determine your probability, and evaluate the upside and size that bet accordingly.

Fantastic presentation as usual, thanks Mark. I don’t predict how much BTC will worth against FIAT in future since the FIAT is manipulated all the time. I would predict though that with 1 BTC in 2030, someone at 55 years old can retire comfortably.
2030....I'm 45 today, so I bloody hope so. Too many aches and pains to do physical labour much longer.
if we follow the usual pattern, which BTC always seems to revert to we will hit new ATHs before crashing again post halving. Sooooo the question is, do you wait until then to buy in?
I don't think btc will crash as hard anymore now the etf's are out.....i think it might get way less volatile
Buy up to halving, hold 18 months, then sell. Then buy again 1 year later at the bottom. Rinse and repeat.
If you’re buying with a long term time frame, say 10 years, then you buy at any price but consistently. 100 every week or whatever, it’s called dollar cost averaging

I think it s very bad advice/recomandation , for people to buy bitcoin at 65k just for a possible 2x , the downside could easily be 70% from here.
That downside at this point is not likely at all since the Hong Kong ETF is coming, the US ETFs are taking many times the daily issuance off the exchanges daily which will double when mining fees (and production) go down by half, and the wire houses and pension funds begin allocating to BTC along with just general Metcalfe's law.

I think you should look up the definition of a fiat currency. Your entire premise is that the dollar backed by gold is a fiat currency. That is false. A fiat currency is a dollar not backed by a precious metal. Your argument also ignores basic inflation in the claim of ever growing BTC. The whole purpose of a gold backed currency is to limit inflation by linking the cash supply to something that is increasing slowly. BTC works the same way as a gold backed currency in theory. A “fixed” supply. The reason BTC goes up is more cash in the system chasing a fixed amount of BTC. Same reason gold goes up. If BTC or gold becomes the backbone of the currency. The value of BTC would effectively stabilize as a source of inflation control. I think this is a good thing. But it makes the claims of every rising BTC a little bit of a catfish. Also left out that the hardware BTC runs on is literally built on precious metals.

Hi Mark, thank you for the great video! I had a question about gold. You said it is unlikely that we go back to a gold standard as that system has already failed and doesn’t make sense in the digital age. So why do you still own some gold? Why not put it all into Bitcoin?

Depends on time horizon you are taking in consideration (if you make it long enough it just go up). It kept value so far, but with quite high volatility. It should get better with higher market cap. BTW - even gold goes up and down.

That is store of value. BTC follows stock indices, and the good economy suits BTC. Gold likes crises. That is why I think that "store of value" or "digital gold" is wrong term for BTC. That is my opinion.

If Bitcoin were 10 million dollars right now, it would be more impractical than gold. If the underlying cryptography remains unbreakable, Bitcoin will likely continue to be the dominant store of value in decentralized assets. Dominance will certainly trend much lower as technology advances. Bitcoin is far from being the superior technology in its own class. I would replace Bitcoin with "all trustless digital SoV" in your presentation. "Probability" that bitcoin maintains its current dominance in its own class while relying on immutability for value, is zero.
Problem is : what will happens if there is a 3 rd would war and the countries closes their electronic borders to protect their infrastructures. What will happens to all those fractioned networks that are unable to communicate and update themselves durings years maybe?
Also there are a lot of scams almost lost all crypto based on a ledger scam it looks just like the software and their email...fortunately I had enough time to move it, was blessed that I was protected but NEVER put your key phrase anywhere other than the little wallet NOTHING ELSE!

Okay when everyone talks about an alt coin season… should we be selling BTC and moving that money into alts? Not everyone has new money to put in should it be an aggressive strategy moving it back and forth?

I’ve been following mark since 2019.Hes been spot on with Bitcoin . The huge inflows from institutional investors is an inflection point for Bitcoin . If Ethereum ETF is approved then it could possibly take a greater share of the market. Exiting times .
