@@thefrightofthenight8554 I’m sorry, I can’t remember. It was years ago. It’s safe to mix fairy liquid and bleach though. But now I just use products specifically designed for floors and are pet safe.

Simply: The bleach destroys the double bonds in molecules with large numbers of connected double bonds, and its these bond chains which give it color. The bonds being gone means color also is gone.
More in detail: The bleach (sodium hypochlorite, NaOCl) reacts with the conjugated system of most dyes (chain of pi bonds), via an addition reaction which adds hydroxy and chlorine substituents to alternating pairs of the carbons involved in the double bonds. This breaking of the system also breaks the electron conjugation delocalisation which means the colour absorbance changes dramatically, in this case to nothing within the visible spectrum so it all goes through, giving transparency.
There are other mechanisms that one can find with hypochlorite and pi bonds but this is the first one I could find in my textbook so I'm sticking with it.
Fundamentally though all of these mess around with the HOMO-LUMO gap (energy gap between the base state and excited state) and whatever mechanism you pick the result is the same: the gap changes and the absorbance spectrum changes, in this case I _presume_ that the gap changes in a way that makes the visible light too weak to be absorbed so it just goes through, hence why it makes sense from a spectroscopy standpoint.

For those who don’t know why bleach removed color, It is because Bleach works by releasing oxygen molecules in a process called oxidation. The oxygen molecules released by bleach break up the chemical bonds of chromophores. The changed chromophore molecules either reflect no color or a color outside the visible spectrum.
