Intracoastal Waterway Cruising (ICW) | Charleston, SC to Beaufort, SC [Wildly Intrepid Ep 90]

- The sailing adventure continues as we keep on going to Charleston, South Carolina after a dinghy tour. If feels great walking in a t-shirt and checking out all the different architecture of Charleston and even enjoying some fish & Chips at the Griffon. We then get a surprise as we carry on the ICW. A bridge changes our plans on the Intracoastal Waterway Cruising.
The sailing life is always fun when you get to share it with a buddy boat. We leave Charleston with Scott and Tobi to see more of the winding waterways and slowly make our way to Beaufort, South Carolina. We even manage to sail on the ICW and turn off our engine for a few hours.

That breakfast looked good! I don't think Cory ruined anything by adding the ketchup. The only thing lacking was the Tobasco Sauce!😁

We missed that bridge too - by 5 minutes on the way there and back - but only for an hour thankfully !! Thank you for the video - we just did Charleston to Rockville for our first overnight! Fair winds:)

@@WildlyIntrepid Yes - we got lucky - and actually double and triple checked the bridge schedule because we saw this video first and didn't want to get stuck for 4 hours coming back and have to dock in the dark - so thank you again:)! Our first overnight was awesome - nerve-wracking for sure but great for building our confidence, we learned SO much and had a blast. I am working on a video about our experience now:) We started a nonprofit organization and our goal is to be ready to head to the Bahamas (we met in Exuma, Wood is American, I am Canadian) this November to clean up the beaches there. Have you seen much plastic pollution on your travels? We would love to know any particularly bad spots you may have noticed so we can target them. Glad we could help and its so nice when you get to build your confidence up and learn some new things about yourself and the boat. We absolutely love you idea for the garbage collection. Infact we were talking about organizing beach cleanups and doing something similar. Please let us know if we can help in any way. We will for sure keep our eyes out for problem beaches. It seems the atlantic side has the most problems. Just curious because we could not figure out a good way to dispose of the garbage. Since in general they do not have landfills here and often burn the garbage we found our idea was going to fix one problem but cause another. Im kind of thinking it would be better burnt than micro plastic in thr ocean but it is the main reason we didnt go through with it at least here in the Bahamas. Again let us know if we can help in any other ways. We would love to be part of the solution.
@@WildlyIntrepid Thank you so much for your message and for trying to solve the problem - it isn't an easy one for sure, especially in the Bahamas. We are currently researching some 'possible' solutions - trying to determine what is better burning vs. leaving/having it in the ocean. We are thinking the same that burning would be 'better' - but is not the ideal solution by far. I will email you directly and we can keep in touch! We really hope you get on your boat soon. A lot of countries are starting to re-open marinas. Our home one from back in Canada just openes this past weekend.
That’s funny. There’s Beaufort, NC, on the Intracoastal, along with Beaufort, SC. Beaufort, NC, is pronounced BO/FORT with a lone O. Beaufort, SC, is pronounced BEW/FORT like eew. Who’d have thunk it? 😂
I know right. It makes it so much more confusing. And they have to be spelled the exact same. Dis you visit both?
Hey guys! This question maybe a little late but... the Erie canal info says its 12-14 ft deep... did you guys find this to be true...?
Mostly true but we did bump bottom a few times. Once in the Genesis river, another time before little falls and the docks at Spencerport have 4 to 6ft. We have videos of the whole Erie Canal in a playlist. But we did travel through sections of 9ft in many areas. We draw 5'3". Are you thinking of doing it this fall.
I'm thinking fall of 2021 but I draw 8.5'....that's not a typo either... it's a 1988 C&C 44...
I won't lie. I'd be scared with that deep of keel. You can always check the water level closer to when you leave and call the canal. They were dredging some areas when we were transiting. A friend of ours who had a keel similar to yours decided against it.
You pronounced Beaufort wrong...
I know editing it was painful. I keep mixing those two.
