I have been a transit bus driver 17 years. This is the first video I've ever watched that accurately portrays what it's like. You love it one minute and hate it the next. The people, the traffic, the monotony. Boredom, excitement, joy and sadness all in the same trip. Great video. This should be shown the first day of driver training so people know what they are getting into.

+Daniel Shaysevand it varies from agency to agency. Most agencies have a full in house training, though. In general paying for class B training is a bad idea because the agency that hires you will provide free training. Private bus companies generally expect you to have a CDL prior to hire, though. I started at 21 with only a driver's license.

This is the type of video that needs to go viral! I drive for MTA in NYC and it's pretty much the same thing. When something goes wrong, we're the ones on the front line so we get all the flack. The subway isn't working, they blame us. There's heavy traffic, they blame us. Very few people out there on the outside who truly understand what we go through.

I think bus drivers have the hardest job. There driving big and long vehicle, dealing with passenger and being in the community. I'm a transit rider I know I haven't said it enough time. THANK YOU BUS DRIVERS IN Vancouver,Burnaby,New Westminster, Coquitlam, Langley Richmond and more places! Thanks you getting me to different and new place. Thanks you!

Because you couldn't ride from 49 to 41st ? She doesn't know how to use the bus rack, driver have to get out to help her and she gets off 8 streets later. 5:35 big line of peoples, 1st person to get in not ready, takes forever to pay. You guys wonder why buses are often late ?

Never understood how people will wait 5 to 10 minutes for the bus and only start to play with their small change when the bus arrives. " Lady, you had ten minutes to do that before the bus arrived!"

That running lady I left behind? That was the first stop. I had just started my run 4 mins behind on a 6 minute service run. So folks...there is usually more than one reason (Sometimes 10-20 or more reasons) why we do what we do.

Finally a video on the bus drivers view really can relate with this guy always seeing something new. I Love my job as a bus driver in Los Angeles, Ca. I'm very vocal - outspoken, but most of all very respectful to my passengers whether there right or wrong that's why I'm the BEST Bus Driver in L.A. Well maybe that's not true but I have to think that way I believe in "Law of Attraction" what I give to them (Passengers) I get back in the long run.

This is real a great video. It really shows the true nature of the job. The people who can't be ready or at the stop or whatever. I spent almost 30 years driving in Portland OR. This video is 10 years old and now if you did half the stuff that I saw in this they would drag you in and reprimand you for not providing good customer service. What I am referring to is when he asked the lady why she didn't wait for the others to get on first because she was paying in cash. Happens ALL THE TIME and it's always the first person in the bus and even though they waited for 10 minutes for the bus they still didn't have the money ready. Things have changed so much in the world. Instead of being about helping everyone ELSE it's now all about ME or maybe it's just the USA that is like that

I'm a bus driver in the UK and the company I work for is horrible. Yesterday I was behind time and when at a roundabout I was tapping on the steering wheel to alleviate stress and sometimes I was taking to myself and before that I asked a lady to move her trolley out of the gangway, but two young ladies went to complain about me. I can't see what I did wrong as I didn't swear or was abusive to anyone. People just like to gang up on bus drivers and the company takes their side.

One day I was working on a particular route and was about 20 minutes behind. The other bus ( single decker) overtook me and was on time, but two people saw me and because I had a double decker specifically flagged me down to get on my bus, just because it was a double decker. I said to tell the bus in front is on time and now I'm later. Their response was "we wanted the double decker". I said it's things like that which makes buses late. One of them said he was going to report me. GRRRRR people!

Not done it in Canada but that's why I'm going by what's shown and said in this video. I'm from Wales in the UK and work in a bus company. Whilst I admittedly am not a bus driver by title, I do have my license to do it and I experience what goes on regularly (and help deal with problems that crop up). Large amounts of passengers and traffic - stressful yes, but that's still nothing compared to the loads of other hurdles to overcome in other countries.

The comment you made at 6:10 I totally agree with you and I bet you've had passengers moan because you didn't stop to let them on. I totally understand as I'm a bus driver myself. In a situation like that, my arguement is if I'm on time and they're not at the bus stop in time for me to get there, then why should I wait and end up being as late as they are, only to get late and annoy passengers further down the route. How long are your shifts? Mine are nearly 13 hours and I'm sick of it.

Just to continue - I see only two main factors in this video that are stressful; lots of passengers and traffic. Try squeezing through spots with half an inch each side or having to move your mirrors just to physically fit through at all; try forcing your way through between walls when you have no other option; try reversing all the way through a village with tight 90 degree corners with parked cars, concrete bollards on each corner and other cars behind you unable to pass with nobody to help..

After 35 years as a public transit operator driving both buses and trains I wish to write 3 things based on my experience: 1) I wouldn't go into public transit if I was young again 2) Transit Authorities/Bus companies have made the job a hell of a lot harder over the years by increasing the exploitation of the workers (working harder and more for less) and thus 3) This job ain't worth a barrel of warm piss
