The Walmart jabba looks much more like a caricature while the new one is a more faithful recreation of the puppet.
Awesome video, thanks for this, O1B. I have a soft spot for the SotDS Jabba. It's a great likeness, although mine is slowly disintegrating. Exciting times for TVC with the Throne Room, Court Denizens, Jabba box set, The Ghost etc. Please though, Hasbro, can we have elbow articulation on 8D8? Cheers, ma man! ~ GA
Great comparison vid mate👍 I suppose they went with best of both worlds : head sculpt of Sail Barge Jabba and superior paint job of SOTDS Jabba.

I have SOTDS Jabba and I’m quite happy with it. It seemed very definitive, but seeing it side by side with TVC.. I’m leaning towards TVC. Could be just the lighting, but it is coloured better and looks screen accurate. Head swivel cut isn’t great but you get that.
I'm lucky enough to have the Walmart exclusive SOTDS Jabba and I love it. I haven't preordered the new Jabba because I'm not convinced it is better. It's also disappointing that 8D-8 lacks proper articulation in the new set.

I once owned the Walmart exclusive Jabba. It's definitely awesome. The newer TVC one looks a bit more like Jabba to me in color and in the face. To be honest both versions haven't got the look of his face totally. Idk what exactly is lacking? I think it's the mouth and nostrils and the lack of dark shadowing?
I bought my SOTDS on sale many years ago. The Vintage Kenner still holds up tho...
Great job on your short today Nick - Boba looks great below the Barge!! I’d have to argue in the Episode I Jabba the Hutt with the “Real Feel” skin but he looks ridiculous in that spitting motion getting ready to spit that piece of food to start the Boonta race regarding this video. Love the Fode and Beed character that came with it though - would LOVE IT if they made a TVC character out of that but that’s not happening. ☹️☹️ By the way I remember you talking about Thrawn books or Star Wars books in general a couple months back & the Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn and the Thrawn Series also by Zahn are great ways to get to know one of the greatest military masterminds Thrawn in Star Wars history!! I don’t really like reading but I love these books!! Have a good one & keep the great shows coming!! - Mike
I completely agree! I like the Shadows of the Dark Side sculpt much better! I didn’t know it existed until I watched your video but now I’m sad that they’re bringing back the barge one instead haha!
Jabba is my favourite CHaratcer in ROTJ aside from Luke , vader etc, for a big puppet hes so animated an i love how he finds everything so funny. Mate these are awsome, very nice, im not sure if sligjtly different head sculpt on the new onw
Hasbro most likely does not have any of the molds for that SOTDS set. The new TVC set does not use a single sculpt from that set.
The Episode I Jabba glob actually held up pretty well with the old POTF2 Jabba's Palace diorama...

True, the newer Jabba has superior paint and sculpting, but the SOTDS Jabba just has a certain charm to it wether it be the detail or even the articulation makes it feel more...'Jabba-ish'. Great video as always
I prefer the SOTDS Jabba sculpt but because the paint comes off reacting to the breakdown of the plastic I sold mine and will go with the TVC version.

I have The Barge Jabba and the Return of the Jedi, Jabba's Palace which is the one you say is a bad version. You can remove the ridiculous tongue and put his shisha pipe in his mouth which looks much better, the paint apps and overall appearance of him aren't so bad, it's just that crazy tongue.
The only modern Jabba I have is the one from the Barge. I wouldn't mind the other version just for the Oola figure. It's such a shame that she will never be released again on a TVC card.
I’ve got that 97 Jabba The Hutt with Han Solo. I loved it as a kid, still have it in my saga display.

I count myself lucky that I got the SOTD Jabba on eBay complete but unboxed when I started collecting in 2012 - for a measly £26! Have been on the fence about getting the throne room set but bit the bullet last night and it’s being despatched tomorrow! Will be using my SOTD Jabba until next year when the new one arrives. Never got the barge so don’t have that Jabba yet. Happy to have Oola and the plastic pillows and I will probably use crumb and keep the new one carded.

The vintage Jabba is the same mould as the Jabba from the Rancor Pit, which in turn is the same as the one used for the Jabba on the barge. The difference between these three is the decoration of the face, especially the eyes.
The vintage Jabba takes the gold for the best face painting because they did improve it.
Second place goes to the Rancor Pit , which is the one I have and I think it has better eyes than the one on the barge.
I also have the one of the throne from 2010 but I don't like it as much, I feel it's not the right scale and I think the face is certainly not as faithful to the film. This one is worth it for the throne, but mostly for Oola. On my shelf I have the 2015 Jabba of the Rancor Pit mounted on the 2010 throne.

I got the Jabba figure from 1997 and it was like 10 bucks at a thrift shop. It is indeed awful and the paint is chipping. I’m giving up on getting a Jabba cause I don’t have a dedicated displace for him and it’s absurdly expensive.
It's going to be a whole year until I get the new TVC one...I like the dias or throne..with the over hanging fabric..the new one seems to have some Ewok pelts..interesting..yeah I was stoked to get that 97 Steve"Spaz" Williams badly sculpted CGI Jabba..but yeah I need an update..the Barge Jabba for me is the better one..paint work looks better and the torso looks more seamless..the Barge one needed a bit more drool on his mouth though..cheers Nick 🍺🍺🍻
I use the saga jabba tounge with the shadows of the darkside one . I think I like the SOTD one best. I think it looks more like Jabba
I count myself lucky for getting the Shadows of the Darkside version when I did. It was a time where it was probably easier to get. Shows you what a few years of difference will make.
I do think it would be nice for them to release other Hutt figures separate to Jabba. You have a Clone Wars Jabba and his son Rotta but we sadly never got a Ziro his Uncle in that line and we probably never will because they aren't going to go back and release what would probably be now considered an obscure Clone Wars character.
I also think it would be interesting if they released the Twins to go alongside other Book of Boba Fett figures. Granted they didn't really do anything but people would still want them to go alongside other figures create scenarios. Something to think about. I know Jabba is the most well known Hutt but he's not the only one and they just seem to only want to release him over and over again.
Anyway I think that's it for now but knowing me I've forgotten some stuff. Looking forward to the next video.
I have the Jabba with Oola (was very lucky to find him a retail) and I like him. i probably wouldnt even bother with the new one but its going to include 8D8....sigh

Awesome Jabba's! I do love that added scene in A New Hope but Jabba looks a lot younger and smaller than he is in Jedi and its only what a year or 2 between A New Hope & Jedi story wise!

I have one of those "horrendous" Jabba's with a removable tongue and he is actually quite decent for display purposes although he is built like a brick lol

I think the Walmart exclusive SOTDS looks the most “puppet” like and therefore a closer resemblance BUT, mine has become tacky over time. Have you had his issue?

I doubt it, given it's a different mould of Jabba than what is coking next in TVC... but then again, you never know.
Also, SOTDS has Oola... so unique.

Hate to say it but I bought the SDCC Black Series Jabba because he is truly the best in the star wars line. Between the articulation, moving mouth and rubber like body it's closer than any of the vintage collection ones. They should've made a smaller version of the black series and then it would've perfect. 🤘💯🍺
