I have watched 10 videos on this stitch and not one of you shows how to tie it off when you're done. That would be TREMENDOUSLY helpful.

I would keep going until I had a row of two squares wide, by however long the piece is and leave the tails out. Then connect all the rows of two, together to form the whole blanket. Then take all the tails and weave them throughout the edges and seams of what is now an entire blanket. If you go one way, but switch the direction you are weaving the yarn, it can’t pull out.
I hope that makes sense. It truly IS frustrating to not have even ONE video that will show how to completely finish off this technique!

      I have the same problem!
What i am doing is just making a sort of loop of the end AROUND the stitch with a hook and then just a normal chain to act like a knot. Then, just sew it in like normal....

I was so frustrated cause everyone said the mattress stitch was easy, but all the other videos I watched were confusing and included extra steps. Your video is so much better! Thank you so much!

Great video!! I've been crocheting since I was a child, and I've never heard of this until recently.. love this easy to understand video. It was the "shoe lace" part that set it in stone for me, so thanks for this ☺️🫶🏽

This is a really cool invisible joining technique, but it’s not the mattress stitch. The mattress stitch creates what looks like a ladder with horizontal bars, this method doesn’t do that . It creates a zigzag like when you tie your shoes. I wish someone would come up with a different name for this technique. It’s a wonderful technique but its confusing to use the same name for two different sewing techniques.

    • @deboraheubanksrafferty

You'd absolutely have to weave each end, can't just cut, or it'll come unwoven. You're right, that wasn't covered.
