Thanks for the break down. If I get in the water I use the Excalibur 2 and wading with the nox but not under water. Had flood issue also. But sent it in and they send you a new head within days and its back read to go.

Floods if you submerge. Had 2 both times submerged first time, both died. Minelab replaced no questions asked. But I'd never submerge it again. 90% of my beach hunting is in the water..

I've found thousands of gold/platinum rings, chains, charms, medallions with Excaliburs, shallow saltwater hunting. Always looking for a better mousetrap, I've tried most every water machine available. Everytime I went right back to my Excals, which simply out-hunted every machine I tried. The Garrett Infinium came close. Not the CTX 3030. The Equinox? Not even close! Plus multiple Equinox flooded on me during trips. Now keep in mind, this is my style of hunting on treasure hunting vacations. In heavy black sand, the Excalibur meets its match and where the Infinium shines. Like I said, I try them all and now have a Deus 2 and Ledgend to test. Both like the 3030, are more advanced than Excalibur. But will they out-hunt Excal in shallow saltwater? I really like the D2, but suspect the more simple Ledgend might do well in the sea. One reason the Excal does so well, is it's simplicity in rough water. I'm wondering if the highly complex Deus can be used effectively underwater? We shall see. But for now and for me, the Excalibur is still the Gold King! It's a sound machine and I've suggested to Minelab several times to repackage the Excalibur, with all the electronics in a new version, DetectorPro headphones. Or as a new folding machine for travel. I'd get rid of pinpoint. No Screen! I'd do a hardwired 9 inch DD coil and make sure the machine is balanced and water dynamic.... Neutral buoyancy and easy to swing underwater. I'd buy 2! Let's talk about depth and sensitivity. Obviously the Excalibur goes deep enough to find gold in the sea. Sometimes depth is important. But on limited treasure hunting vacations, I'm happy to scoop gold within the depth range of my Excalibur. The Equinox is more sensitive to small targets. But I sure wasted lots of time digging small trash items, unlike my scooping more large gold with Excalibur in same time. My concern is the Deus will hit those tiny trash targets too? I did get the Deus with 9 inch coil and sure hope it becomes my new Champ. Same for the Ledgend. All that matters to me, is will these new machines find more than Excalibur in the same hunting time? I suspect no. Lastly, I don't mind the External transmit wire on the Deus. Who cares what it looks like if the Deus finds the goods?

just curious if a year later, you would reccomend the deus 2 or excalibur 2 to a complete newbie who hunts mostly in water at depths of 0-2 meters using a vibra tector 740. I want to upgrade to a better machine. I also plan to do detecting on ground. thanks for any advice

I really don't like that antenna wire on the Deus II, and I'm in the water most of the time. The shaft is a bit wobbly to, I will probably switch to an Anderson shaft with doodad guy's control box clip. His charger clip was definitely better, thanks for pointing me at that Gig! 🤿⛏️🪙🏖️

Great video Steve! I've been hunting with the Excalibur since 1996 and it's still my go-to detector for water hunting. I like how it doesn't slow me down by sounding off on every little piece of foil. My out of warranty Equinox just recently flooded and I had to pay $429 for a replacement pod with a 3-year warranty. I'm going to use it very sparingly in the water while it's under warranty and after that, I'll consider it rain and splash-proof only.

It will be good to hear your advice for settings in the rough surf with the D2! I hear Diving mode is the best but you give up depth. I am new to the D2 but wanting to learn and not be missing the good deep targets in the waves in the surf. So far the Beach modes are very noisy in the surf and drive me nutzy! Love your videos Gig. Good video, Gig. Lots of good points for an upgrader. I moved from the Apex to a D2-9”. I’m almost 69 and like the light weight of both the Apex and the D2. The wireless Headphones on both are also a plus. The D2 has the advantage in separation capability, adjustability, sensitivity, and sleek lines with no cable from the coil to the RC unless diving. If traveling, the D2 might collapse and fit into a smaller package. My son likes his D2-11” enough he wants me to sell his 10mo. old ‘Nox 800. Go figure….

Nice vid Steve. Have only owned a Whites TDI BH, NOX 8 & 600, XPD1 and now the 2. Once the XPD2 arrived, sold all the others. Never had any issues with NOX’s. Took them underwater a bunch too. Like keeping one brand around as the amount of time it takes to learn each. If I do pick up another machine, hopefully it’s an American one. Would like to support ‘em, but seems they are stuck in repackaging the same old tech.

Gigmaster, the DetectEd shafts are the bomb. I am however worried about the lower shaft on the Deus 2. when in the water it bends a bit so have to lean on the side of caution not to possibly break it. Have heard of one breaking but not sure the circumstances. We really need a carbon lower shaft for the Deus 2. Having two machines of the same type or different sounds crazy even for weekend searchers but to head out and have an issue and not having a backup really sucks and to be honest I like to switch them up when out, adds more fun or frustration - have not figured that one out yet.
