I was the original owner of a Juno 60 back in the ‘80s. Along the way, I got a MIDI/DCB converter box for it too. The Juno was essential in composing several songs (just a music/synth hobbyist). Then one day, I decided to sell the whole combo for other equipment that I was interested in at the time. Loved the new stuff, but I regretted selling the Juno soon after, and have been kicking myself over the decades since. Fortunately, Roland released the Juno 60 plug out a couple years ago, and I now have that in my System 8. Love that I have the J60’s general sound back, but there was just something special to the original hardware.
Original does sound better than the plugout. Not by miles, but def is theres a difference. The 6 and 60 sound amazing. The 106 is overrated, it’s not as lush.
I wanted a Wretch Machine so bad back in the day, but by the time I had the kind of money where I could get one they were long since discontinued. I have an R/RK-series modular setup now, which is undoubtedly more powerful and flexible, but the Wretch Machine is still so damn cool!
Not really a synth, but I bought the MPC live 2 when it came out, then Corona hit, I had to return it for the money, bought the retro version when i financially recovered. Didn't understand it. Sold it too soon, then 2 years later I bought the gold version. Never been happier with any groovebox than that bad boy. Never getting rid of it and it only took me three times and a lot of financial loss. :D
Nice. Got a few of those machines here in Berlin. Used some for the Fad Gadget come back tour in earlier 00s. Hassle me if you wanna sample them buddy.
I bought the POLYevolver in 2005 and really love the sound but tbh didn’t really understand it’s architecture that well until I got into Eurorack Modular in 2012, so glad I never sold mine although I did think about it so I could buy more modules. It is a unique synth!
Spot on about Poly Evolver, I too owned one when they first came out. I had to sell mine due to hardships but yeah I got the Mono Evolver back in my arsenal again. Having the sound engine is the most important and I sample for pads too. Such a shame Sequential didn't do a 20 year anniversary redux of Evolver. A real lost opportunity. Great video, just subbed.
Glad I was able to get a direct take on the Evolver v. Pro2. I'd been thinking of selling off a couple of lesser-used pieces to upgrade my Evolver desktop to the keyboard version, when the Pro2 came out...the uncertainty as to whether to go Pro2 has kept me from committing ever since--but you've confirmed my suspicions--going to go Evolver keyboard all the way! I agree that it's an amazing synth--love the sound and the depth.
monomachine/machinedrum are on my most hated list. Due to the massive jitter, they only play well with themselves. As in solo only. Two monomachines will fail at being tight together. At least that's what I remembered from my elektron mduw/mnm days. Only useful if its your only piece of gear or you only add slow stuff like pads on top with other gear. For me, it's the Virus TI2. I keep buying it and using the shit out of it, but then I get tired of it and sell it just to buy it again later. It does so much so well, but it's hard to get it out of it's samey character and I think I'll find a workhorse that suits me better, but I never do. It's the only synth that is at least okay at everything it does. I really miss the keyboard version. I ponied up for it with the intention of never selling it, but then I had money problems and it was an instant source of quick cash. I've got the rack mount version now, but the keys version was stupendous and I'll probably never have the scratch for it again.
Polyevolver and Alesis Andromeda are my biggest regrets for passing up deals on...let a PE pass me by for $800 (!) and Andromeda for like $1500...RIP me... biggest regret selling was my Moog Micromoog. It was my fist synth. I got a Voyager (which i also sold...and i dont regret selling. i just regret WHEN i sold it. It was shortly after they were discontinued and prices were stagnant for a long time and i sold it for $1800. ) and thought the Micro was redundant. But it had some quirks and charm that i havent been able to replicate in other synths. and now they just keep getting more and more expensive.
If you’re not into the deep step sequencer with mod matrix the Pro 2 won’t necessarily wow you. But if you dig into the sequencer and mod matrix it’s an absolutely stellar synth. I’ll never sell my Pro 2 because i’m all about that kind of modulated programming. Only modular has the sequencing-synthesis depth of the Pro 2. Also the OB filter and Prophet filter sound gorgeous, mine doesn’t sound cold (unless you dial up a wavetable and open the filter completely and leave it like that, but who does that?) Beautiful looking synth, too.
More than half of your most missed synths I have and happen to be favorites in my studio. I picked up the Z1 with voice expansion for $400, which was a steal. I got the PEK for $1600 used. The guy turned it on once and decided he didn't like it. I found a school that was getting rid of their PE Racks for $800. I only had the cash to get one at the time. I wish I had gotten 2. 8 voice PEK is amazing. MD has always been my favorite drum machine. Chaining the MD and Monomachine together is so much fun.
You hit the nail on the head with the Evolver, It is such a unique sound and hard to believe it’s 20 years old. I’ll be taking mine to the grave with my JD990. Being honest I hate watching vids like this as I can sympathise, I recently had to part ways with 15 assorted hardware synths due to literally running out of storage space and needed to make way for new gear. I would say it was some of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make in the last 10years. There all different and often uniquely impacted our musical journeys at different times. Yeah selling synths sucks. The only time I regretted getting married as the wife oversees the books and vetoed any more expansions for storage and made sure everyone fully understood this. Yeah selling synths sucks.
Regret selling my Roland JD-800. After that, I decided to never sell a synth again. We chatted about the Z1 a bit in an earlier comment, I love that machine. You can still find em at a decent price sometimes. My Z1 sits right next to my K5000S and Monomachine :)
I really want my K5000S back. It's not just that it was additive, it somehow made additive musical and fun. And it makes some truly killer, unique sounds. AND it's a great controller/keybed.
@@blush_response No, and I don’t think it’ll be added either. I think the Dev is wrapping up development on the M because he’s gonna start designing his own synth. He’s working on a 8-16 hybrid synth with a Dual Mode SEM and поливоск filter which potentially could be a killer synth.
@Blush Response To be fair the ring mod does sound very nice on the M. Also with the latest firmware there's some cool digital filters added, one that can be FM'd from oscillator 2, and some other cool ones. I do still wish it had proper FM though.
My number one synth-related product I regret selling is the Polyend Play. I had an MPC that I used more often for sampling and sequencing so I thought I wouldn't miss it. Boy was I wrong. It's just by far the easiest and most intuitive interface for making music that I've ever come across. The MPC is way more powerful but making it do something even remotely generative is a huge struggle. I'll probably buy it back at some point since it's worth about the same as the couple of spare eurorack modules I have lying around.
I've been kinda interested in the Play for a little while, potentially as the centerpiece for a setup (sequencing its own sounds as well as external synths)
I don’t regret selling any of the synths I’ve had (kept all the good ones), but I do regret not picking up other ones that were still cheap, thinking they’d always be like that 😤 Seems to me scalping has become much more prevalent ever since marketplaces like Reverb etc came into play
the KORG Prophecy was my first synth back in the days and I could still program it with blindfolded eyes. For years I didn't work with anything else. Often layering it for chords in Cubase Audio. I still have and cherish it. But I got to say the Prophecy VST KORG released almost sounds as good and is polyphonic.
I don’t have a tenth of the synth gear you have, but I just happen to have a Moog Voyager Rack, Korg Z1, Waldorf XT, and a Poly Evolver. Weird. And I bought the Z1 and Waldorf in Berlin in 2009 when I was moving back to the States. Congrats on the Frontline gig! That’ll be fantastic.
I had a Korg Z1 for about 20 yrs and did three albums where most of my synth leads were done with the Z1. I was very attached to the Z1 and it was difficult for me to sell it. Ultimately, I bought a Nord Lead 2x with the money I got for the Z1 and I didn't look back. The Nord is a much better analog modeling machine and *MUCH* easier to program than the Z1. That said, the Z1 is a mean machine and without a doubt, one of the greatest digital synths.
I ended up selling my Machinedrum after 6 years of owning it, not really regretting it. If I had the UW version I might have kept it... but between the Digitone and DrumComputer I have my wacky digital drums covered. If Elektron released a modern version of the MD I'd be all over it though.
I concur. I had the UW version for a number of years when it came out, absolutely wicked machine and ahead of its time, but in the end by it was slow to use and sample transfer times were beyond sluggish. I’d happily hold out for a new version though, than consider the inflated used prices these days.
Good to know I am not the only one that makes terrible decisions when it comes to selling gear. My worst regret is trading a vintage Urei 1178 for an Analog Rytm Mk1 :D
So far zero regrets. Sold the minimoog reissue before the new rereissue popped up. That was lucky… only regret buying the minibrute. I didn t like the sound in the shop but some review in a mag made me buy it. First synth i sold.
I’ve got a Poly Evolver and it’s mint. Got it super cheap and I love it like my own child. Buy one if you find one for sale. I miss my Korg M1. Probably just nostalgia but I loved it
my list is so long, that it's embarrassing . moving to FL was why I sold them, and regret daily. one was an OBXa that I sold for 500, I had a K5000s as well, but found it just too much trouble and not getting a lot of usable sounds. I had a n original machine drum and like the rest , at the time, no one wanted it. Now they are gold,. Rave O lution, Matrix 6 that fried something inside, Juno 6, and a bunch of others. what sucks is that there was the period in the mid early 2000's that nobody wanted any thing like these synths. and then , overnight, ka bam, super rare. I feel you pain.
I miss my Z1, sold it to get a Virus Indigo 2 which I don't regret. The Virus is a lot easier to program and sound killer. If I found a Z1 for a good price, I would scoop it up.
I don't sell much. I still have a SuperNova and XV 3080 that I got like 25 years ago. The only thing I kind of regret selling is a Melotus Versio. I wanted the money to buy a bitbox, and that has enabled me to do things I couldn't whereas the Versio was more of a "nice to have." I still have my Desmodus (currently flashed as Electus), but I still haven't fully explored are the different Versios. I just got two more effects modules, so I guess I can try them now.
I got a Mono Evolver too, I'm ever gonna not have some sort of Evolver engine in my studio. Had two of the Keyboards and one of the modules... I had a few of those other ones too... Monomachine, Microwave... Also had a Korg Vocoder from the seventies, Akai AX60...Not synths, but I had a couple Moogerfoogers before they cost 1000$ a pedal... I regret not getting certain deals more then I regret selling stuff, if I'm honest...
Yip, regret selling my Monoevolver keyboard. And similarly, my Microwave XTK. Also Waldorf Pulse and Roland JX-3P. Pulses still aren't that expensive, so I really need to get one again. Things I don't really regret selling are Elektron Machinedrum, Roland JX-8P, Arturia Microbrute and Korg Monologue and even Moog Voyager; personally didn't really love their core sound. And Prophet '08 (non-PE) had horrible problems with it's pots, from manufacture which was really not ok from DSI; they should have recalled and refitted all these for free. I miss my JoMoX XBase 09 a bit; but really regret selling my MFB Tanzbar. They sound lovely, and the sequencer is very cool. Don't miss the Drumbrute or Korg Electribe ER-1 drum machines.
For the Microwave XT, you can to go to the new Waldorf M ! I had a Microwave XT and a Microcrowave 1 with access programmer and I prefer the M because sound really similar and sometimes better because analog VCA and Analog distortion on this model and more possibility so.
@@blush_response I understand... Maybe with a next OS, I don't know..... I felt the same with the Nord Wave 2 compared to 1. On NW1, you could, for example, do FM on an oscillator with a sample, which makes it possible to obtain some pretty crazy sounds! On the 2, even if there is a bit of FM in the synth and it is more powerful on different things, I think we get bored more. Besides, I find the Prophet X much more powerful at this level. On the other hand, on the M, there is a really nice function directly, it's the ramdomization functions of different parameters on a sound. With the possibilities some wavetables, It's fun !

Depressing video. Selling gear is always the worst. Sorry about your Serge. I also rate it the highest of all synths even though I've never had hands on experience with one. I miss my MS-20's (rev 1 and 2), 1977 Minimoog (was a really nice sounding one), Octave Cat MK1, and Roland Super Jupiter. @@nisroch without FM then I’d say XT is still king
@Blush Response To be fair the ring mod does sound very nice on the M. Also with the latest firmware there's some cool digital filters added, one that can be FM'd from oscillator 2, and some other cool ones. I do still wish it had proper FM though.
Congrats on the FLA gig!
Damn, you sold a machinedrum. That one was my one big 'win' - got a mk2uw+ for about 750 and I think it's worth about 3 times that now.
the KORG Prophecy was my first synth back in the days and I could still program it with blindfolded eyes. For years I didn't work with anything else. Often layering it for chords in Cubase Audio. I still have and cherish it. But I got to say the Prophecy VST KORG released almost sounds as good and is polyphonic.
Would love to hear what you have to say (and the sounds youd make) about the Groove 3rd Wave !
Fucking hell! Would love to see you on keys with FLA again. To bad the show in Denmark was cancelled 😭
If you like the Evolver you really should check out the Prophet 12 .. that is actually the follow up of the Evolver
I want a MachineDrum, LinnDrum and Oberheim DMX but all three have become crazy expensive on the vintage market now!
I know why doesn't linn remake the linn drum with same sound but upgraded parts? they sell for insane money.
I miss owning a Sidstation but only from a collector stand point
Good to know I am not the only one that makes terrible decisions when it comes to selling gear. My worst regret is trading a vintage Urei 1178 for an Analog Rytm Mk1 :D
So far zero regrets. Sold the minimoog reissue before the new rereissue popped up. That was lucky… only regret buying the minibrute. I didn t like the sound in the shop but some review in
a mag made me buy it. First synth i sold.
Same opinion for the drum machine, a pumped up machine drum would rule them all haha
I’ve got a Poly Evolver and it’s mint. Got it super cheap and I love it like my own child. Buy one if you find one for sale. I miss my Korg M1. Probably just nostalgia but I loved it
I sold a Juno 106 back in the day. It was immaculate too.
my list is so long, that it's embarrassing . moving to FL was why I sold them, and regret daily. one was an OBXa that I sold for 500, I had a K5000s as well, but found it just too much trouble and not getting a lot of usable sounds.
Oooooooh that Wretch Machine probably hurt to part with.
Might want to check out Vulture Culture. Has a ton of vintage synths and streams regularly. Buys and sells a lot.
I miss my Z1, sold it to get a Virus Indigo 2 which I don't regret. The Virus is a lot easier to program and sound killer. If I found a Z1 for a good price, I would scoop it up.
I regret selling my Memory Moog
The serge too… my dream rig
Moog minitaur is probably the top of my list monomachine Monotribe and prophet 8 desktop
Monomachine and Machinedrum are my regrets
I always wondered why Waldorf didn't reissue the microwave. Maybe the parts are obsolete,.
Amazing⚡⚡
I REALLY regret selling my pro-2
Sold a 1973 Minimoog Model D for £1k, 15yrs ago. Doh! How much are they now?
Congrats on the new album release... and tour/gigs. Under what artist name is your solo stuff? Appreciate you bro.

For the Microwave XT, you can to go to the new Waldorf M ! I had a Microwave XT and a Microcrowave 1 with access programmer and I prefer the M because sound really similar and sometimes better because analog VCA and Analog distortion on this model and more possibility so.
The M doesn’t have oscillator FM which is a huge miss for me
@@blush_response I understand...

I want to sell my Moog Sub 37 and DFAM and get a mini moog reissue. keeping my virus.
I wanna keep my Virus units but Access failing to update them is annoying the hell out of me.
I have both Sub 37 and DFAM. I've thought about selling both, but shit just play them for a bit dude.... they're both keepers!
need a video about the mono evolver
Could you recommend me some gear? because I would like to start synthpunk ebm techno project but I have no clue about what should I buy and I have a budget of 1000€ 😅 thanks in forward and your content is awesome ❤
👍thanks for sharing
kind regret selling/trading my mono evolver mek away some years ago, now have a pro3 not the same, i miss the stereo pad and delay lines, but pro3 has better filters and analog osc's and is fun to use, and sequencer is more advanced, kind wish it was a mek 2 though, would loved that maybe more, kind a chance missed by sequential, but pro3 is pretty awesome on its own too
Not to be a douche, but have to admit that it makes me feel good to own a few of these 😇
I just traded my OP-Z for the MiniBrute 2S...dumb.
hail serge!
Voyager is super spicy nice. Love mine
❤
Depressing video. Selling gear is always the worst. Sorry about your Serge. I also rate it the highest of all synths even though I've never had hands on experience with one.
I miss my MS-20's (rev 1 and 2), 1977 Minimoog (was a really nice sounding one), Octave Cat MK1, and Roland Super Jupiter. They have all been cloned or digitally emulated decently well so I don't regret it too much honestly I can get most 99% of their sounds from my computer but I would buy them all again if I had the money but then again I might buy something else instead, Serge probably.
No Berlin date for FLA?!
Why did you sell your OG MS‐20?
I got into eurorack around 2010 and wanted more modules
don't sell the emax!
I would never!!! It’s one of the best sounding things I’ve ever heard 🖤
korg ms20
I can't shake the feeling that Dave Smith Instruments make "dad synths", incredibly boring and out of touch.
