    Dear Mr. Brendan Power, I would like to thank you for your great effort and work. Every video brings me new insights and information (and encourages me to practice and try new things) Thank you for sharing your great knowledge with us, I think I may speak for many harmonica enthusiasts. (which is not a matter of course) I wish you a good Sunday, stay safe, Mr. H

    Nice in-depth review Brendan. I think you hit on all the subtle and not so subtle differences of the two instruments. I love my DM 48 and have found anassortment of really nice options from the wide array of menu selections in it. really nice idea by the way that you demonstrated using the harmonizer. There is definitely no end to the creativity that one can employ on this fabulous instrument.

      Thanks Sandy! You are doing some really creative things with your DM48. As you say, there's so much to explore. After dipping into it for the video demo, I realized that I'm missing out not using Polyphonic mode, and spent much of today messing about with it - lots of fun!

    Very informative! I fall into his ‘clutz’ category with respect to MIDI and consider myself an average to mediocre harmonica player who has the uncanny ability to give my wife headaches, (so most of my playing is done alone). The ability to mimic various musical instruments intrigues me and Brenden’s video has been an excellent introduction to this new ability to ‘play’ music i like on a variety of instruments i like but cannot play. THANKS Brenden!

    Hi. Great video. Just discovered this now. I am in Japan long-term, and it’s a condition of my lease to not use a loud instrument. I had blues harmonica lessons years ago, but I’m interested in learning jazz chromatic. My question is, how does ‘learning to play’ on the DM48 translate across, if at all, to a real chromatic?

    • @BrendanPowerMusic
      @BrendanPowerMusic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It translates perfectly to a normal chromatic.

    I’m sure you know where I stand…😉 The iPad now has become a goldmine of incredible synths, (for incredibly cheap relative to desktop apps) and now that Audio modeling is releasing their SWAM series on IOS, the ipad and the Lekholm DM48 is a formidable musical arsenal for harmonica players that has opened wide a whole new world of sounds and possibilities. I haven’t tried the HM12 but I can state that the Lekholm DM48 is an astonishingly sensitive, beautifully crafted musical instrument that has made live gigs, recording, and practice time insanely versatile and fun!! Great video btw, that harmonizer is a cool idea! Cheers!

    • @BrendanPowerMusic
      @BrendanPowerMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jason, you are a total master of the DM48 whose use of it I really admire! I wish I had your technical understanding of Midi CC numbers and the rest of it; maybe I should take a course 🥴
      But even without that the iPad makes it so easy and affordable for any harmonica player to access an extraordinary wealth of sounds with the DM48 - and now also the HM12.
      Being designed more as a standalone plug-and-play Midi harmonica, it doesn't have the same level of sensitive fine tuning capability as the DM48, but does have some nifty features of its own. When it comes to Midi harmonicas, the more the merrier I say!

      Agreed! It’s the golden age of exciting new digital and traditional harmonicas! New innovations galore, and incredible players from all over the world are expanding the repertoire constantly!

    Awesome video on both model. Which slider between the two model feels more like a real chromatic harmonic?

    • @BrendanPowerMusic
      @BrendanPowerMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! The HM12 slide button is closest to a standard chromatic harmonica because it has similar travel length and spring pressure. However it's easy enough to adjust to the DM48 button also.

    Brendan, I know nothing about midi but from youtube have gathered that one can purchase libraries of sounds with midi instruments, such as strings or woodwinds - which would really be amazing. Also, wondering how a midi instrument could help a musician to play what they hear without coming up against so many limitations of reeds, gaps, and the need to bend, and overblow. Are you enjoying this instrument more than acoustic? I would be interested in hearing a good diatonic harp sound through this instrument - can you bend with it as well?

    • @BrendanPowerMusic
      @BrendanPowerMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Gregory - like you, I knew nothing about Midi Instruments until quite recently, and still have very limited knowledge of how it all works. But I discovered you don't need it to start playing and having a lot of fun! I am really enjoying all the great aspects of Midi harmonica, including the ones you mention. You can't bend notes in the same way as on a harp, but there are other methods, as with my Mini PitchBender.

    Brendan... what model is your I-Pad? Also, what size is it? I ask because I want to get the correct one AND... my harmonica tripod shelf that I use at gigs is a certain size and I want to make sure that the I-Pad will fit along with my harp case.
    Thank you!!!

      @@BrendanPowerMusic Brendan... THANK YOU for getting back with me so quickly. Really means a lot. I will go out and do as you suggested!
      My next question is: Do you know of anyone who can give advice on how to set up the DM48X? Someone that could walk me through the settings... the tunings, etc.
      This could be done through email or Skype? I am in my late 60's and I am kind of slow when it comes to setting these things up.
      I have not purchased the DM48X as of yet... but will shortly. I am not too sure how detailed the instructional booklet is??
      Also, I am trying to find someone (Skype, etc) that would give lessons $$) on how to use the DM48X on various songs?
      I have played in various bands since 2001. Mostly Classic Rock, Blues and some Pop.
      Even though I have played the diatonic harmonica since 1975... I am trying to find the best route to take when it comes to this chromatic beast.
      Any thoughts or directions? I have been on TH-cam for two weeks now and other than your videos... there is not much out there.
      I have not found ONE video that shows how to go through the selection window on how to set up choices, etc.
      I would be willing to take SEVERAL Skype lessons in order to start using the DM48X in the bands that I play with.
      If you don't have the time or the desire, would there be someone else that you could recommend?
      Once again... I will pay for direction and/or lessons.
      Thank you Brendan.
      Al

    Very informative. It already offers so much that it just feels wrong to ask for more! Nevertheless, features that would be nice to have, maybe in a future version ...
    1. User should be able to define polyphonic (example: piano + flute)
    2. Custom “maps” that can be saved. A map defines how the instrument is set up (values of all parameters)
    3. The ability to switch instantly from one map to another, so you can play the prelude and interludes also with other maps.
    4. Last one 😉 - I notice the instrument is always tethered via a cable. Can it not be connected via Bluetooth or something similar?

    • @BrendanPowerMusic
      @BrendanPowerMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for your comments Raj.
      You can currently play with a mix of different sounds by having several apps open at once. Piano + Flute + + +... It just depends on the CPU of the iPad as to how many will work without glitches. You can mix the level of each instrument. They will all sound together in polyphonic mode.
      You can switch virtually instantly between the Global Presets, which I think are equivalent to your Maps.
      Bluetooth is not possible on this model, but I believe will be available sometime in the future.

    Voice Live Touch is like the basso continuo in baroque music. Back in the days when paper was super expensive stuff the harmony instruments (organ, baroque guitar, harpsichord, etc) were expected to read the bass line and create a harmony, playing the appropriate arpeggio or chords for the given bass note. (For music that was actually written down and passed on in bars and festivals, that is).
    extrapolate
    For me personally: Though I made a career working with technology - for last 10 years as an app dev - I was reluctant to incorporate digital instruments. I like traditional analog instruments, analog signal processing (tape echo units and whatnot) and digital recording. Maybe it is time to embrace digital synths a bit more, especially with this interface that I would already be skilled at.
    Anyway, #random thoughts. . . Great video as always. Thank you!
