I don't think they entered the profession by choice. Not many choices for women back then teacher, nun , nurse, mother wife Not much. It's very sad. And odd men have needs but it is ok for them to go to a whore house

The iron fences around the graves is an attempt to ward off body snatchers for medical schools. As well as keeping out wild scavengers. Jerome is a beautiful area. The town has changed alot since the 70's when I was last there. TY Ron.

I don't think it was cursed I think it was the nature of the industry. Plus no electricity so lanterns and candles, open fires for cooking and warmth, accidents are bound to happen and like Ron said all the buildings are made of lumber

So sorry for the loss of your husband who you loved so deeply. I understand how you feel. Lost my True Love only months after we met. We knew we were meant for each other when we first met. It was difficult to bear, and can still do a number on me if I let it. I did meet another who I believe my True Love sent to me. One a Virgo, the other a Pisces. Both Navy men, and both born the same year. Saw them both the first time when they walked through a door, and love hits like that. My True Love knew I’d need him. Just don’t give up. Keep going. Take the time you need to hole up a bit to grieve and miss your sweetheart, and then rise to the occasion of life in his honor. You are a beautiful soul, and his love is with you every step of the way even today. True Love never fades and it never dies. That kind of love lives on forever and knows no boundaries. He is watching over you, and holds you in his heart as well. You will see him again. Much love and hugs to you, Margaret.❤

Hun I am so sorry about your husband, but how lucky to have married your childhood sweetheart! I had a childhood sweetheart we lived next to each other and everyone knew one day we would get married! One day we had a huge fight and we never spoke to each other again and now it's too late he died a few years ago of a massive heart attack in his 40's. Yes I did move on(I post on my husband Frank's acct), but some things one never gets over. I am sorry you lost your husband, but how fortunate you were to have had him! May God comfort you,,,, Patricia Gambino Harrington

The mortality rate in those days sure was pretty high. I wonder what the percentage of people were who actually made it to old age. It is a creepy looking area. Ron, you are so respectful and so great at telling stories that you even make the profession of being a lady of the night sound like a classy job. Great video. Graves sure are different. “He was dead on arrival at the bottom…” You are a fantastic story teller, Ron. This is your true calling. A free roll in the covers every night to the firemen if they saved the building of the Soiled Doves. Well, if that didn’t inspire those firefighters I don’t know what would. I can only say if one of the firefighters was my husband, well, he’d better be at home in bed at night if he wasn’t fighting fires! Haha! Thanks for the wonderful stroll through history and the lovely cemetery. Take it easy.

I lived in Yuma(1992-2008) which has a very interesting museum as well as the most visited AZ State Park...Yuma Territorial Prison, we also have a couple of cemeteries side by side.

This is a very awesome little town, I love all these little ghost towns. I especially like their little cemeteries, I don’t know if this is true or not but, I was told that the graves are put in these cages, to protect them from animals digging up the graves. And it makes them look kind of fancy. Thank you Ron, I really enjoyed this video, you always find so much information on your stories, and put so much effort into them. I especially like these in the old west, as I live in Utah and we have so many Ghost towns in our state, and also in Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Colorado, Arizona. There are so many and you are right most of these little towns were mining towns. Also gold mines in California, I’ve never been there, not even to Disneyland lol 🎃

The fact that they moved not only Jennie’s body, but probably so many others, to build a football field is so disrespectful, deplorable, and down right disgusting! Just knowing that they believed football was more important than someone’s eternal resting place, that makes me lose faith in humanity! Thank you, Ron, for giving, not only Jennie, but so many others the respect that they deserve.

Richard Harvey was born in New York, June 1869 per the grave marker (Jan 1870 per a 1900 census of that area ) listed at a lodger along with a large list of others at the Montana Hotel. His occupation at the time of his death was a smelter feeder. It appears he was unmarried. The cause of death was listed as natural, heart failure. A contributing factor was acute alcoholism. His father was born in England and his mother was born in New York according to that census. I found a little bit of conflicting information according to voter registration records, he was born in England, and became a naturalized citizen in Baltimore MD, Oct 5th 1891. The record keeping back then isn't always the most accurate, but most of the time you can kind of figure it out. Just a little more info to add to the story. If he was around during one of those periods where there were a lot of deaths due to disease, he was a smelter feeder, I can see why he might have had a problem with alcohol. It's also so sad about Jennie. To die in that manner, only to then be removed from her resting place for a football field. Geez, it always makes me ill that people can be so callus for the sake of "progress'. May they all rest in peace.

Hi Ron...I lived in AZ from the mid 70s to mid 80s. Had the pleasure of visiting Jerome back then. The House of Joy was a 5 star restaurant back then. The old schoolhouse was a place for local artisans. Very quiet there....I loved it. There was an old house next to the House of Joy. It had a very twisted chimney and was interesting to look at. It blew down in a bad windstorm. The restauranteur said that while the House of Joy was sturdy on the main level, the upper levels and stairway was not so sturdy but he did say the upstairs accomodations were still up there as left..not fancy at all. The restaurant portion had a small parlor and had pictures of some of the doves. The business district was fun.. little shops. I thoroughly enjoyed Jerome.

Working in the copper mines also led to death due to cancer. When the smelters were cleaned, folks had to take their potted plants in to save them. Grass in those areas were pretty much non existence. My inlaws lived in the Clementaue and Cottonwood areas but also worked Jerome. I'm sure the Pirtle name still exist there and in Sedona. My husband's grandmother left behind her 3 babies in a Sedona cemetery when she moved. Also her parents and part of her siblings who continued to live the remainder of their lives in Arizona.
We were there several years ago and were able to see some of the area where they had lived and worked.
    Beautiful country!

In with the new. Out with old. Our cemeteries will last a long time. We have plenty of room now day's. I hope we RIP forever. I'm sad for the loved ones who were just swept away. Just like that. No wonder the place is haunted. Do not disturb the dead. Boo. Great walk today. The Holloween stories were great. No tricker treaters here in Michigan. Crappy weather. I loved Holloween! I'm so happy you got to Jerome! I love that town for the ambiance and the shopping! I've been there many times but never to the cemetery! I need to get up there soon! The large building that you wondered about used to be a hospital I believe. I could be wrong. It could've been a mansion for the owner of the mine. When you get to town you'll see the jail that slid down the mountain. Hippies took over that town in the late 60's and early 70's. There's still remnants of their existence in town. I have to find that book you spoke of something about Cleopatra. I think Cleopatra is the name of one of the mountains out there but I could be all wet on that too! I honestly just go there to shop, eat hamburgers drink a beer. My ex was all about the history of the place.

Used to hang out there all the time when I was in my 20's. It was a bit less touristy at that time. The jail that has slid down hill hundreds of feet was the big attraction. I think some of those larger buildings are not original. Haven't been there since the 90's.

The scenery there is very pretty. This true story of the history of the wild west reveals it was really rough times for people. So many tragic deaths in one town and either some are now unmarked graves or it is a sign that very many people were cremated. All those people, now lost and forgotten.

Nice final resting space. Nice view. Wonder if the big building you zoomed in on was a hotel or factory.

I have a great uncle whose stepson (who also happened to be a distant relative of mine) lived in Jerome the last couple years of his life. He had been a Jerome State Park supervisor those last two years. Before then, according to his obituary, he was supervisor of the Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Monument. I’m guessing that was for about 13 years since he moved to Arizona about 15 years before his death in 1967.
I was doing some research on my family tree and stumbled across this on his Find a Grave listing. I’ve never gotten around to really looking more into what he would have done in those positions specifically. But I’ve always been rather curious.
He wasn’t buried in this cemetery, but if you’re curious, his name was Robert E. Ladd.

I bet that cementary is very spooky at night! And, if there were to be a cat close by and it stepped on one of those cacti, someone will be tearing that one apart getting out of there!

Hi Ron, we love going to Jerome. In fact, we are going on Thanksgiving weekend. We have reservations at the hotel at the Asylum. And we have reservations for a ghost tour that weekend, too. Can't wait. It's always fun going to Jerome.

Pretty interesting. Such wild times. I do wonder if violent death could cause more chance of haunting. When I think of that town in it’s hay day I have far more appreciation for my quiet life. It seems like these people were used to mining tragedy and a violent culture. They gave us some very amazing stories. Thanks Ron.👻💀👻
