These clowns ignore a few simple facts. The cost is determined by the buyers willingness to pay the price. When over paid keyboard ITC billionaires started paying $1m for a view for a $150k apartment, it drives the price up for ALL properties in that area.
Otherwise live in Fort Wayne, IN., where the median home price is $169,485
If you want people to be paid $25/hr to flip a burger and say 'would you like fries with that', it means the burger WILL cost more.

To the gen Z that can't buy a house . . . I am a Boomer and I understand your frustration. It is harder for your generation and paying market rate rent all your life is a form of indentured servantry, especially at today's inflated rates. If you are forced into that position you will probably never have a comfortable retirement. Please realize that it was easier for our parents than it was for us to buy a house, and every generation since has had it tougher than the last. There is twice as many people on this planet now than when we were your age and they are competing for fewer resources. That makes everything harder to get. We need laws that stop big Wall St. REITs and other investment firms from buying up single family homes. We need to build starter homes and builders need to offer special financing to first time buyers. We need lower interest rates, lower property taxes and lower insurance rates. We need to elect politicians that will get this done. We need to stop electing politicians who believe that building high density rental housing is the answer to the housing crisis they created and start building homes that Milin's and Gen Z's can afford to buy. We Boomers do care, but voters continue to elect politicians that want to force them into "15 minute cities" or "infill" housing in the 'burbs renting from some big corporation or local investment company until the day they die. It has to start with governance, are you getting what you voted for?

  • @robertcuminale1212

The "Z"s don't realize that everything is relative. In 1979 we bought our home after my discharge from the Navy. We were making about $30,000 with both of us working full time. For the next ten years I worked 23 hours a week overtime, three hours a night and every Saturday. I even took call outs in the middle of the night. Our mortgage was at 17%. Over the years I was able to refinance until it was down to 4%. In 1984 I was laid off. I started a business that lasted until my retirement. I was working even more hours and barely had any time off. And then there was the thrill of having immature childish employees who partied on the weekends and thought I was rich. None of them knew I was making 8 truck payments every month. Or that I was paying for 1/2 of their Social Security every month and Unemployment Insurance. I paid for all the maintenance on the trucks as well as gasoline. Or that their auto accidents caused my vehicle insurance to climb. All they knew is that I was charging a certain amount hourly for their labor and how little of it they got. Many times I just wanted to chuck it but that would mean going to work for someone else again.
Your wages will go up over time and the mortgage will become a smaller part of your expenses. At that point you can probably pay extra on the principal part of the mortgage, even one payment a year would make a difference since the interest is mostly paid on the first 1/2 of the mortgage term. You also pick up deductions that will reduce your taxes at the end of the year. Some advice. Don'r overpay income taxes all year and expect a refund. The refund is not a savings account. It's lending the government money interest free.
I don't know anyone who could afford their house at first. It made for lean times because the mortgage came first for payment. If you really want to be angry think of this. My mortgage has been paid off for years but we still pay taxes on the house. It's where part of my Social Security check goes. And we still keep seeing prices go up on everything.
Social Security plans started in Germany during Bismark's term as Prime Minister. When Roosevelt started it here it was simple. Pay in and collect when you retire. But over the years Congress added more reasons for payments. Disability is one.Social Security Insurance is another. What counts as a disability is another. I have a brother who has collected for years because his propensity for using drugs is a disability. He's collected more than he ever paid in. Your vengeance on the system is to live as long as possible and collect more than you paid. Welcome to the Rat Race. The Rats are winning.

All the things you THINK you need, you dont. A phone, yes. For work purposes but the nost expensive plan with all the data on top of a wifi bill. Not necessary. Entertainment is not a necessity. Alcohol is not a necessity. You have to buckle down and learn to live minimally to save and for some of us even to just survive.
